  1. Damnit. I'm in college. I'm doing the best I can. Pick up the slack all.
  2. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 12:39 PM) I here the new students won't stand for it Hoy-O!!!!!!! Great post. One of the best I've seen.
  3. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 12:11 PM) Yep, I went through the same s*** at Gordon Tech. Sometimes I'd forget to shave, and I'd have to go down to the dean's office and purchase a razor for $1 and shaving cream for 50 cents. Same confrence. Different School. My school is about 12 miles northwest of GT. By the way, how do you feel about GT going co-ed? Its a pisser ain't it?
  4. You all would have loved my high school. Having gone through the "Chicago Catholic Expierence," I can speak to this first-hand. My high school, an all-boy, Catholic school (very common in the Chicago, Catholic community), did not allow hair to reach eye brow length in the front, collar length in the back, and sideburns had to be mid-ear. There was also a policy on no facial hair; both of these rules were stricly enforced with detentions. Now, will God love me any less if my sideburns go down to my chin? Will I be a less productive citizen if I had a beard? Will I recieve poorer grades with hair down to my collar? The obvious answer to all of these questions is no; then why have them? This school believed if their students all dressed, looked, and acted the same way, they would promote the positive messages of the instiution and start a cycle of, "you'll thank us when you're older." As a pimply-faced freshman, I knew no better than to abide by nearly every rule in the book. My face was shaved, my hair was close and my shirt was always tucked in. However, as I got older, my hair was highlited, my sideburns were long, and I refused to buy into their image. Kids like myself, the type that refused the "clone" image and rejected absurd rules, became very, very dangerous. We would "corrupt" the youth and show how baseless and shallow these types of rules really are. Now, would I ever win that fight? Probably not, resistance is futile...however, I finished in the top 3% of my class, I was involved in varsity football, and found myself amongst the most "popular" and "well recieved" student and family circles. So, do you NEED to be well-groomed to succeed in the real-world and become a productive citizen? Hell no. Does it promote proper grooming, self-image, and acceptance values? Absolutely. Judge a person on his character, not his appearence. , at some point, I decided to grow up and pack away my black concert tee-shirts and chains.> Tex, if your buddy wants his campers to look like little, productive clones...let him. He'll soon discover to discard that practice and hire kids based on their productivity and personal merit.
  5. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 10:17 AM) The signing of Schoeneweis comes one day after closer Billy Koch returned to the fold, and also comes as Ricciardi gets ready to add a much-needed right-handed bat to the lineup by acquiring Shea Hillenbrand from the Arizona Diamondbacks for pitching prospect Adam Peterson possibly as early as today. Link: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/Art...Sports/Baseball Did anyone catch this? Bad move. Hillenbrand won't get you to the playoffs, the strong, young arms of the future will.
  6. Atta' boy! Congrats Gold!
  7. QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 07:52 PM) How can you not look at it as Lee for all 5? If you think about it, the Sox *probably* weren't going to up their payroll much at all, so we used the money saved by trading Lee to fill a couple of holes. Now, we can't include a possible middle infielder in that group, as the money is already spent. But, I don't think there's anything at all flawed about looking at it as Lee for those 5 players. We're in agreement. I think. I don't think there's anything at all flawed about looking at it as Lee for those 5 players. In fact, that was the reasoning behind my post. As for Cerbaho... settle down champ.
  8. Well, with Cairo signing with the Mets, no action on the Alex Cora front, and talks with Iguchi coming to a standstill, should Kenny look into Rob Mackowiak? That's right...he's still available. Yes, the same Mackowiak that killed the Northsiders during that fateful double-header. Mackowiak, an Oak Lawn native, has become one of the best bench players in the game. Rob, a third baseman by trade, can play 3B, 2B, OF, and an emergency 1B. Often hitting clean-up in the Pirates' dilapidated batting order, Rob can rake. My question: should Kenny take a look at the life-long Sox fan and consider inking him to a multi-year deal? In my opinion, Mackowiak could not only contribute to the 2005 Sox, but also the 2006 Sox and beyond. Rob gives Kenny security in dealing Crede (if he fails to step it up this year) and can become a first-class stopgap until Josh Fields is ready. .246/ .319/ .420/ .739 17HR/ 75RBI 2003 Salary: $335,000
  9. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 06:48 PM) The thing we have to ask now is what could we have gotten for Lee. That's the only way to measure this trade. I know many of you are chalking it up to a salary purge but many teams wanted Lee. Which means you can still get your purge & decent talent in return. I think KW got fleeced on this one. He got average players at best in Pods & Vizcaino for a budding superstar in Lee. I have to agree with you...really makes you wonder what else was out there for Lee. I tend to think Kenny had multiple offers, but thought the deal with the Brewers was best in terms of adding to the speedy, strong-pen New Look Chicago White Sox. Also, you have to decide if you view this trade as Lee for Podsednik, Vizcaino, and Hinton or Lee for Podsednik, Vizcaino, Hinton, Hernandez, Pierzynski, and a possible middle infielder. If Podsednik and Vizcaino contribute to the Sox of 2005, no one will be screaming salary dump. If they fail to produce, me thinks we will be seeing a lot more of the "salary dump" talk.
  10. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 06:05 PM) I looked it up in the Soriano thread. I'm saying no to Soriano. MIN owns him. He will not help us defeat our division rivals. That's all that matters. I'm saying no to Soriano because he embodies everything the Sox are trying to get away from. Horrible Defensively, Obp issues, Nasty Contract, Swings from the heels. no thanks.
  11. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 05:32 PM) 24 + High Desert = Fills out a roster. Played behind Prince Fielder=destroys that theory. Prince was one of the most talked about prospects in Brewers history. Who knows what Travis will pan out too, but please don't play the age card. Now, in the Sox organization, he'll have virtually no pressure and can develop at his own pace. He'll be given every opportunity to succeed. Rotoworld seems to think we did alright with this PTBNL, I'm with them.
  12. Best of luck to Travis. Do we have any 1B prospects of any value now that Casey Mighty Casey is in the OF? Maybe we'll see some of Travis in high A ball in the not too distant future.
  13. Nah. I have no use for it. I think debate/ignorance makes this board a great place. Soxtalk-The Only Internet Message Board for my Money
  14. Peyton is a class act and when it is all said and done, he may be remembered as one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game. Congrats to the Colts on a nice win and here's hoping they knock out the Pats. Go Insurance Adjusters!
  15. I look forward to Billy Koch trotting out of the opposing bullpen. Its a shame he never found his way on the Southside. Here's hoping Koch can get back on track in a familiar setting in Toronto. Best o' luck ay'!
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) Podsednik, Vizcaino, Hernandez and Pierzynski. I'm not going to be pissed if the PTNL isn't stud. This deal has worked out great. Well put. There was an article on this subject in the Saturday Tribune. ^ | | were his sentiments exactly. Carlos Lee turned into Podsednik, Vizcaino, Hernandez, and Pierzynski...not too shabby.
  17. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) The only thing Harris has the talent for is Triple-a.. Yes he has the Def range.. but so did Royce Clayton, and he didn't last to long. I don't know why people are in love with this guy so much? Also Pods will succeed this year, hit about .270/.340/60-70 Bank on it I, too, often wonder why people are in love with Harris. Perhaps he's tiny and cute? Perhaps he has a cute nickname? Perhaps he is inconsistant in the extreme, but has fantastic range? I dunno. Something I'd bank on...he'll be out the door sometime in 2005. JMO
  18. I want the missing piece in the middle infield to come via free agency; luckily, I think that is exactly what's going to happen. Although I have been signing the praises of the 2002-2004 Marlins and their production at the top of the lineup, I fear what Kenny would have to give up for Castillo. I truly believe Alex Cora will be a member of the 2005 White Sox, making any possibilty of trading for Castillo completely moot...just speculation on my part, but Kenny is in the position where he does NOT need to make any more moves. If the perfect deal presents itself Kenny might consider it, otherwise, look for that middle infield spot to be filled via free agency (namely Alex Cora).
  19. Don't get your hopes up Byrnes fans. Kenny probably put one phone call into Beane verifying Byrnes was on the market. I highly doubt Kenny inquired any further. Current OF-Podsednik, Rowand, Dye, Everett, Perez, Borchard, Gload, Escobar 2006-2007OF-Podsednik, Rowand, Dye?, Anderson, Escobar, Sweeny? Kenny is very high on both Anderson and Sweeny; giving up current members of this ball club to aquire a fourth outfielder would be down-right goofy. Kenny is in the position where he does not HAVE to make any more moves this off-season. The holes in the 2004 Sox have been filled and filled quite fittingly; look for Kenny to make one more signing via free agency for the middle infield (possibly via trade if the perfect deal presents itself).
  20. Beane is in love with Byrnes. Brynes would come at an elevated price...a price the Sox can't afford to pay. No thanks.
  21. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 06:56 PM) How is that? I second that. Please explain why he was no trade value.
  22. The Robin Williams HBO standup is fantastic. Absolutely killer.
  23. QUOTE(KittleWalk83 @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 04:38 PM) I don't see why this love fest for Stone. And I certainly don't see what qualifies Stone to even be mentioned as a GM. No stupid announcer should move up to a GM spot. It happened once and that was a disaster. You're blinded by your Northside hatred. :headshake Stone is a brilliant baseball mind. He knows the game through-and-through.
  24. Not an option. Kenny won't even consider it. A resounding no.
