QUOTE(Beastly @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) That is a GREAT deal...take the risk Kenny...this is one you probably won't want to get away very quickly... Right on Ross! In fact, IIRC, if Iguchi signs to these terms, he'll be making less than he would have in Japan to come and play in the States. Well, Kenny, nows the time. s*** or get off the pot.

W I said it was going to be a tough one. I called this earlier this week. Kam's and the Illini: a winning combination. Perfection Continues (at least for one more game, now up to the KC). Eat it. -
Wow. Unbelievable sig Gold. Bravo.

QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 08:33 PM) Page not found. ILL wont be anything special next year anyways. Illinois will not be anything special next year??? pshhhhhhhhhh Luckily for Illinois, they are number f***ing one in the land THIS year. THIS year is far from over...and the last time I checked, Illinois has shown no signs of slowing down. ...Illinois will not be anything next year. :banghead As for Iowa, we should be worried. This game is going to be very, very close. Iowa could beat anyone and any given day and will make sure to give the Illini a run for their money in a few hours. I'm a little worried; hopefully they get the W and worry about Wis at the KC. -
...and how do Dominican League stats translate into MLB numbers? Honestly. Not being a smart ass here.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 09:13 PM) The problem is that we're only addressing the symptoms and not the cause of the problem. Hamburglers are not born, they are made. Well before they are full-fledged Hamburglers they are clearly showing signs of being hardcore Hamborrowers. Kind of like this guy... The cycle of illicit burgermongering has to be broken, but you have to get to them before they go completely bad. Hamborrowers... ...Hamborrowers... ......Hamborrowers... Oh my god, Fla you have me rolling on the floor. I never laugh this loud at the computer.

First off...LowercaseRepublican has just become one of my favorite posters here at Soxtalk. Sir, you are an inspiration to us all. You can't imagine how many times my friends and I have had discussions like this. Second, this thread needs some sort of public recognition. If this isn't a candidate for thread of the year, I don't know what is. My thoughts... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The problem with incarcerating the Hamburglar is this: he can post bail and be on the streets by noon. Do you think the hamburger crime world stops at the Hamburglar? Oh no. Oh no my friends, it does not. There is an entire underground crime syndicate that the McDonald people don't want you to know about. As you read this, the Hamburglar has crime camps around the world working on recruiting thieves and promoting all things thievery. My proposition: all out warfare on the hamburger theft scene! I believe this type of initiative needs strength at its foundation...this is where Ronald himself comes in. Until Ronald gets off his ass and decides to participate in an attempt to suppress burger theft, nothing will get accomplished. Ronald is the type of big-name to spearhead this operation. Second, goons...goons for hire. You know exactly who I'm talking about. Grimace. Although presently hamburger theft is at an all time high (burger theft up 600% from 2003), help is on the way. Viva La Resistance.

Ozzie has great expectations for Willie...
AddisonStSox replied to Jabroni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
As for Uribe...I think Hawk said it best. With a swing the ugly, I think we are going to have to be happy with whatever production he brings. He's going to be hot at times and go on tears, but he's also going to slump with the worst of him. Remember, he carried the team on his back the first half of the season (specificly, a two week period when he went bananas). Defensively, I'm not worried. He has both above average range and an above average arm. I think Kenny was a bit fast to ink him to a multi-year deal, but he must have seen something in Juan that could merit that type of contract. If Crede can pull his numbers out of the toilet, I think we will all let off of the middle infield a little more. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 06:12 PM) What makes you think willie doesn't work his ass off, if anything I'd say willie is a much harder worker then jon, a lot of times jon seems like he doesn't give a s***. Now don't get me wrong I'm not trying to turn this into a jon vs willie thing because I think soxfans at times underrated both because we expect the best from all of our players, however I do think willie is trying to get better. I'm not saying he isn't trying to get better. I just don't know if he WANTS to get better. Does he truly want it? Eh'...I've said my piece on Harris. You all know how I feel. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 05:53 PM) I really, really like this quote from Guillen: I honestly cannot believe that Guillen dislikes Harris that much. Guillen probably sees a lot of talent in the kid, a lot of speed, a good ability at the plate, and he's hard on him to get him to his potential. Addison, I know you hate on Harris a lot, but Harris can be a top flight leadoff hitter if he works hard enough -- which is, like I said above, probably why you always hear Guillen ragging on him. Harris is a lot like Jon Garland -- they're doing alright now, but both are capable of much bigger things than what they've done so far... I don't hate on Willie just because; I can't stand him because he doesn't have the attitude nor the drive to turn things around. The difference between a boy like Wee Willie and men like Aaron and Jon is drive. When Rowand was playing below his expectations and people were all over him, I always supported him because he was busting his hump on turning things around...two years later, Aaron is a fan favorite, a proverbial "grinder." I have the same sentiment towards Garland. Although many hyped him to be a 15-18 game winner (who knows, maybe he'll attain that status), I accepted him as a 12 game winner because he was out there doing his best. Wheter Maunel hooked him early, or whatever the case was, he did what he had to do to preform the next time out. I know he put the blame on others early in his career, but he has steered away from that and knows what he has to do to suceed. Willie just doesn't give a s***. He has the tools to be an excellent fielder and an above-average hitter, but he hasn't done it...why? He's had ample time to prove himself and so far, has done nothing more than earn a glorifed "pinch-runner" status. His steals total was the final nail in the coffin in my book. HARRIS IS NOT AN EVERYDAY PLAYER!!! If Wee Willie turns it around, I'll be the first in line to congraduate him on a job well done, but in the meantime, it seems like I and more important people in the Sox organization have given up on him (namely Mr. Williams.). He has fallen out of favor with the organization for a reason. I honestly don't understand the love-affair with this kid. I've posted in the past, I don't know if its his cute size, his cute nickname, or his horrible inconsistancy and inability to hit LHP, but people love him. -

Um...no thanks, I'll pass. Goodbye Willie. Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out. -
ESPN gave them a lot of run on whatever their national NBA show is last night; the show with Greg Anthony. I couldn't care less about the NBA, but its fun having our Bulls as competitors again. They are bringing me slowly out of my NBA retirement...still have a long way to go though.

QUOTE(ISF @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 04:35 PM) I think we can all say good bye to Burke now. Hell, that doesn't even look like a good sign for Ben Davis. Nah, I wouldn't say that. A look at the farm system shows the catcher-well is almost entirely dry. These guys are there to compete against Burke and Davis and to show some of the youngsters how its done. Kenny loves Davis. Ozzie loves Burke. They'll take care of their boys.

Well, I think if the Bulls score more than the Celtics, they ought to win this game. Fingers Crossed.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 01:44 PM) All of those respected people giving the same type of criticism tells me there's some validity to it. That, and my own eyes. Let's face it, Sox brass have a problem with Harris and it goes well beyond the stats. I will also say that just as soon as they can upgrade at 2B, they will. Well put. Rest assured, help is on the way. Wille will get his at-bats this season, but I think he'd have to make some serious changes in both his gameplay and approach to the game if he has any hopes of staying in Black and Silver. The sooner Willie is off the roster, the better.

QUOTE(OFSoxFanMike @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 01:20 PM) Gambling at 10-12M/3yrs would be a calculated risk, but at 20-21M/3yrs would be suicide if he flopped, especially in the Sox budget. Woah. Where have you heard the latter figure? I have only heard the former.

QUOTE(OFSoxFanMike @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 01:06 PM) Why not eliminate some of the risk for the Sox, give him a base salary similar to what he would make in Japan and load the deal w/ incentives that, if met, would push him closer to where his side was looking. Seems to me that he needs to prove himself as a viable major leaguer anyways, so if he believes in his ability the incentives shouldn't be a problem. Actually, if my memory serves me correctly, Kenny's "offer" was exactly what he was making in Japan. So, Kenny is thinking along those lines as well. Personally, I wouldn't mind overpaying, because if he pans out, you have the two-bagger of the future and that opens up the Japenese ballplayer market even further. If he doesn't pan out, you gambled and lost and I'll tip my hat to JR and Kenny for tossing the dice with a strict payroll.

Release date anyone? I have to admit, this is going to be the first baseball game I purchase since Ken Griffey Junior baseball for N64 (still the best baseball game ever made).

QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) everyone has alex smith going so low in the draft, san fran needs a qb, and from what ive heard aaron rodgers is so far gonna be a niner, thats disapointing because he played like crap in the bowl game and alex smith can do it all, smith is your next rothlesberger This is a bit perplexing. Do you think Alex Smith is the #1 prospect in 2005, or do you think Smith is the #1 draft selection. Those are two very, very, very different things. I can't fathom any justification that Smith deserves the #1 seeding amongst the prospects. I was also a little confused as to why you have Cambell so high.

For those of you worried about Maggs signing with the Crybabies from the Northside...rest assured, he will not. I believe one of the teams most interested at this point, will eventually ink him to a one year deal. I like Punch's idea of Maggs to the Marlins. Right now, we're looking at: Houston, Texas, Detroit, Baltimore, Florida
