  1. My goodness...I thought "Fifth Starter" threads were a thing of the past; for a moment there, I was kind of spooked. The obvious choice is Garland. He'll win 12 games and can compete on any given day; most teams in baseball would kill to have a guy like Garland at #5. Mr. California Cool in the five slot. EDIT: Hey, MoS, what did Knuckle do to get banned? Come to think of it, it has been Knuckle-free lately hasn't it. Banning a 4 year old...shame on you.
  2. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) http://lite.espn.go.com/mlb/columnist?id=1969422 Oh my goodness...I don't know what's worse, his picks, or his reasoning. Yikes. What's up Mel?
  3. Here is my working list of the top 20 prospects entering the 2005 draft. I'm sure this will change after combines. I have to admit, however, I have come around on more than a few players. 1. Derrick Johnson OLB, Texas -Derrick will be one of the best players in football in the next 2-4 years. Derrick is one of the most amazing linebackers I have seen in the draft since Lewis. 2. Antrel Rolle CB, Miami -Lock-down corner, will compete with the best of em'. 3. Mike Williams WR, USC -Big play reciever with breakout speed. Damn. Reminds me a lot of...who...thats right, T.O. 4. Cedric Benson RB, Texas 5. Ronnie Brown RB, Auburn -After having watched some gametape and read what some NFL scouts had to say about Ronnie, I have really turned around on this kid. Before, I questioned his hands and playmaking abilites...now, I question nothing. Ronnie is the most NFL-ready runningback in the draft. Crow. 6. Aaron Rodgers QB, Cal 7. Braylon Edwards WR, Mich 8. Jammal Brown OT, OK 9. Justin Miller CB, Clemson -Stock soaring 10. Alex Smith QB, Utah 11. Shaun Cody DE, USC 12. Thomas Davis S, GA 13. Alex Barron OT, FSU 14. Carnell Williams RB, Auburn 15. Justin Tuck DE, ND 16. Carlos Rogers CB, Auburn -Lock-down. 17. Marlin Jackson CB, Mich 18. Heath Miller TE, VA 19. Channing Crowder LB, FL 20. Erasmus James DE, Wis Lists? Thoughts?
  4. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 07:39 PM) Mel knows his stuff about the players as well as anyone. What he doesnt know is the NFL teams choices for those positions. Generally his mock draft is about where the player SHOULD go, not where he really will go, its a glorified draft ranking made into a mock draft. There's no way of knowing right now who will focus on what exactly, outside of someone like San Fran and a QB etc. Like say the Steelers and a TE in the 1st round, the Steelers do need a TE, but they wouldn't take a TE that early, they just don't use them enough in the passing game. But Alex Smith is around the 30-35th ranked player in the draft etc. With that said, Pac Man Jones is too high, Derrick Johnson and Mike Williams are too low, and no way Justin Miller will be picked behind Bryant McFadden for CB's. Excellet post! Top-notch! Don't put too much stock into Kiper's mock drafts. The man is the best in the business in terms of evaluating talent and analyzing positions; however, his mock drafts (as previously mentioned) are all about player rankings and where guys (not really SHOULD) but COULD go. That said, I do have issue with a few of his position rankings. QB-Accurate RB-Accurate (Nearly impossible to tell at this point) WR-Debatable (Williams hasn't touched the football field for a year I suppose) TE-Excellent OLine-Accurate (Crapshoot until combines) Now...here come the problems CB-What!? First off, Rolle should be the first CB on the board. Second, a strong case could be made for Justin Miller at 2. After that, any combination of Jones, Rogers, Browner, McFadden is possible. Personally, I LOVE Rogers; this kid is going to be a shut-down corner in the NFL. Derrick Johnson to the Chargers!? Mel, you have to be kidding me. Johnson is arguably the best player in the draft...gimme a break. He can easily be selected in the top 5. DE-Accurate (I think Tuck should go higher, as should Pollack) Thanks SS!
  5. QUOTE(LDF @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 06:21 PM) look for alex barron or jammal brown both "ot" to be the pick the bears will make. Wheter Williams or Edwards, I still believe they take the high impact reciever at No. 4.
  6. Hopefully I'll be watching Mark trot to the mount in St. Louis.
  7. This picture bring back any memories? Do you remember where you were when it happened?
  8. Hey, why not try for $22M. Its a win-win. If they give it to him, he just cashed in at how old!? and if they don't, he hangs it up. Worth a shot. Clemens was the best pitcher I've ever seen; it was a pleasure watching his career. Top 10 pitcher of all time? Let the debate begin.
  9. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 05:34 PM) I think they should "consentrate" more on spelling. Zing!
  10. Off topic... what happened to Drew's brother? did he agree to terms?
  11. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 03:14 PM) He wrote this before today. The Twins have Santana, Lohse, & Silva going to arbitration. I see them having to make trades to cut payroll if they are to sign all 3. The CWS on the other hand have all their players signed, still have a 10M/3 deal out there for Igs & are willing to spend to upgrade their middle IF. Didn't the Twins agree to terms wth Silva? Anywho, the Twins deserve to be favorites until proven otherwise. They have dominated the AL Central the past 3 seasons. They do everything the right way and flat-out win. We should not be the favorites.
  12. QUOTE(LDF @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) i think that you are way off on this. how were you able to figure out the value of the pick??? Agreed. That's a bit steep, especially when you consider this year's draft class. If you look at draft history, thats far too demanding. I think the only reason you see the Bears move down will be if they feel they can get their guy at a later pick, maybe pick up a third rounder (compensation for the Booker deal) and save some cash.
  13. hi8is, I loved your previous. Absolutely loved it. It was one of my favorites.
  14. Well, this gives them an excuse. Cub Dork 1: "Say, did you see who grounded into that double play?" Cub Dork 2: "No, sorry. I was grabbing a beer. I think it was LaTroy, or Hawkins." True story...sitting in the fifth row at the White Sox v. Cubs game on the fourth of July, I heard the guy behind me say (and I quote), "Who are they going to bring in, LaTroy or Hawkins?" In a related story...the top 5 brilliant words of wisdom I heard that day. 5. The wait for the bathroom was too long, so I used the women's. 4. Hand us the pennant now. 3. Dusty is a genius. 2. $4.50 for a beer, I'll take two. 1. Who are they going to bring in, LaTroy or Hawkins.
  15. QUOTE(Cali @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 12:40 AM) Every MLK day all I can think of is Chris Rocks bit about how he stood for non-violence, but if you're of Martin Luther King Blvd. anywhere in the country there's some violence going on. So funny, because it's so true. I always think of "Martin Luther King" from Coming to America. Well, um, that...and all the positive strides the man made as a civil rights leader.
  16. I have my wristband on right now. Glad to see that much money was raised for charity.
  17. "Cubs rip-off Sox bracelet idea???" Classic. :headshake
  18. I disagree 100%. Rowand played an excellent CF last year and went above and beyond the call of duty. Although Podsednik doesn't have LF numbers, that is where he should be. IMO, from left to right, Podsednik, Rowand, Dye.
  19. quote=Mr. Showtime,Jan 16, 2005 -> 11:50 AM] Oh. You wanna fight over the name.... There's only one way to settle this. [
  20. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 11:43 AM) None of the above. It will make me re-login several times each day. Yikes. Sorry. My internet knowledge is all tapped out.
  21. No s***. I'd welcome Graff back with open arms. If they are unable to land Iguchi or some other middle infielder via free agency, I'd rejoice bringing Graff back in Black and Silver via trade. Ozzie would love this guy; Graff plays the game the right way, and although he may not be the most talented guy on the roster, he'd help solidfy the middle infield situation with Harris and Uribe. Plan A- Sign Iguchi Plan B- Try and trade for Graff without giving up the farm
  22. Well, anyone that was at Soxfest this weekend knows the positive buzz about the team this year. Things feel really right in Sox camp. I think Ozzie matured as a manager after his first year, he's realizing it takes more than HR to win the AL Central, and he's focused on utilizing the strengths of the New Look White Sox (namely, speed, pitching, and defense). I'm really confident in the dynamic of the current club and I think this team could beat anybody on any given day. I haven't felt this good about an up-coming season in years.
  23. are you guys clearing your history? or deleting cookies? or deleting temp internet files? If you have your internet explorer set on deleting internet history after one day, it will make you start fresh each and every day.
  24. Feeling a bit sluggish today, I'm just going to c & p my post from the Offical thread. Hope you don't mind Ross. Well, I just returned from the fest, already wearing my Sox Pride wristband. Wow. What a good time. Growing up on the Northside, I've never seen that many die-hard Sox fans gathered together at one time; it was really great to see. There were a lot of friendly faces and great Sox gear. Random Thoughts... 1. It was great bumping into some of the fine posters here at Soxtalk. Beastly and I watched the Kenny/Ozzie/Hawk Q & A together, then I met Steff, Jason, and Aboz. It was a pleasure meeting all of you. 2. Great turnout. Saturday's Soxfest was sold out and that ain't no joke; the place was packed. I wouldn't be surprised if that broke some kind of Soxfest attendance record. 3. The autograph signings were a blast. This, my first Soxfest, I only got Pierzynski's, Rowand's and (get this) Bo Jackson's autographs. I've learned if we really want those autographs, you basically have to forfeit the Seminars; those lines are awfully long. 4. I met up with Aaron Rowand outside Houlihan's for a few minutes. We talked about his new contract and how his wife didn't have to work anymore, Ozzie, and all things Sox. Aaron was a genuinely nice guy and took a considerable amount of his time to speak with me. Dude has some pipes! 5. The Q & A session was very upbeat and positive. Both Steff and Aboz behaved themselves and Kenny was flabbergasted by all the love. He couldn't believe how much praise he was receiving, it was hysterical. As expected, Kenny didn't hint that there would be any more moves, but instead, was very happy with the moves he has already made and wanted to focus on those. Ozzie was hysterical and gave some token Ozzie lines. In 2005, he will still "makee da lineup." Hawk was great and answered a question on a "certain former Chicago radio host's" recent departure. Hawk was very happy and thought it was time to end his trail of lies. I wish I had some breaking news to report, but things were pretty uneventful. All in all, it was a first-class experience. The posters at Soxtalk were great in person, Beastly and I had a good time at the Q & A and it was a great way to interact with other Sox fans. I couldn't recommend Soxfest any more.
