QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 06:57 PM) I have said something similar to this many times and people usually come back with, ''well he is still a bad outfielder.'' Yup. People have it in their heads that CLee was poor defensively and are too stuborn to admit he was fantastic last year. He made significant improvements each and every year with both his glove and his bat.

Its finally over. Barring any setbacks in the 72 hour contract negotiation period, a trade sending Randy Johnson to the Yankees for Javier Vazquez, Brad Halsey, Dioner Navarro and $9M has been completed. MLB Story

More of a reason to bring in a middle infielder. Perhaps Kenny knew about this when showing interest in Iguchi and Cora. I think its safe to say if Uribe has really bilmped-out like they said he has, we will be looking at either Cora or Iguchi in Black and Silver by spring training.
-
This trade his just been confirmed by Peter Gammons on the ESPN Radio national Sporscenter update. Green will go to Arizona for Navarro and a few other prospects (most likely a SP).

If Kenny brings in both Iguchi and AJP, I will sing his praises until 2006. OMG, OMG, OMG...the thought of aquiring those two is just...um....sexy. 2005 Opening-Day Darkhose Lineup LF-Podsednik 2B-Iguchi 1B-Konerko RF-Dye DH-Jurassic CF-Rowand C-AJP 3B-Crede SS-Uribe I'm giddy.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) Well, perhaps the Dodgers will withdrawl from the AJP hunt. Per Rotoworld The Dodgers have agreed in principle to send Shawn Green and cash to the Diamondbacks for two players, the Los Angeles Times reports. Dioner Navarro will be one of the players, assuming that the Randy Johnson trade goes through. Take it for what its worth, but I know the Dodgers have fancied Navarro for quite some time. With the addition of Navarro, I think the Dodgers will now withdraw from the AJP hunt and stand pat with their current catching core. Remember, AJP is expected to be signed by week's end. Not quite. He's a year away. We'll see if the Dodgers want to rush him. Maybe a Ross/Navarro platoon is in the works. I just can't see DePodesta signing AJP with the catcher-of-the-future only a year or so away. EDIT: I quoted the wrong post sorry. Still getting the hang of these upgrades. This post was made in response to 562004's question.

I'm very happy with getting rid of "stone hands" Lee, and a big upgrade to the pen. "Stone hands?" You have to be kidding right? Goodbye credibility. :headshake :puke

QUOTE (Kogs35 @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 04:49 PM) espn1000 may hire him for the 9-12 with silvy. it was in ed shermans latest collumn of the trib I think that would be a good move. As a religious ESPN Radio1000 listener, I think Silvy and Rex could have a nice show in the afternoon slot. Besides, DeFalco and Dickerson are a lot of fun to listen to in the evening. -
Per Rotoworld The Rangers are negotiating with free agent Miguel Cairo. Cairo likely will cost more money than Eric Young would have and he's not going to be as good of a fit for Texas. We don't like this idea. Jan. 1 - 1:35 pm et

QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 02:32 PM) #9 Georgia Tech is up 34-27 at #2 Kansas at the half.... Damn straight. GT pulling out to a nice lead on the road. Watch out Rock Chalkers. Better rally the troops Mr. Self. -
You have to take everything Hawk says with a grain of salt. Today he may not have been too enthusiastic about the club, but tomorrow, he may think we will run away with the division. I'm happy to hear that he thinks the AJP deal will go down. I don't care what people are saying of him, AJP is one of the finest catchers in the bigs. We will finally have some stability at the catching position if he is brought in. Fingers crossed on two more free agent aquisitions.

Time to cowboy up Illinois. I hope we knock the tar out of Huggins. f*** Cincy. Oskee-Wow-Wow -
That's 100% right on Jas. Kenny has targeted these last two positions. We will not be in the Vazquez hunt (and that is a good thing).
-
Yes! That's exactly what I'm sensing as well. Every team is going to have question marks...Kenny has done a fantastic job this off-season and it will only get better with the signing of either Iguchi or AJP. Remember, Kenny has his hands tied more than anyone other GM this side of Tampa Bay. Our current roster will compete for the division...after that, anything is possible.
-
Good thread Tex, I had one in the works as well. Currently, Kenny has a B+ in my book. He has adressed nearly every hole. The two remaining holes in this club are at the catching position and in the middle infield. Kenny has signed Jermaine Dye, Dustin Hermanson, and El Duque (Three farily impressive signings); I think many of us have forgotten about Dye and Hermanson. Although there may be some disagreement with the El Duque signing, Kenny did bring in a fifth starter. He addressed this team's most important need with a very adequate hurler. So, what would Kenny have to do to earn an A in my book? -Sign Iguchi: A- -Sign AJP: A- -Sign Both: A I was all over Kenny during the CLee trade, but if he uses that money to sign not only El Duque but also either AJP or Iguchi, he will have produced one of the best Sox off-seasons in history. This team is ready to contend for the divison...after that, anything is possible.
-
Couldn't agree with you more. If those two are brought in, Kenny will have produced one of the best off-seasons in recent memory. In my opinion, he will have earned an A this off-season.
-
Today's ESPN Radio 1000 Sportscenter updates still have us offering Iguchi contract offers. This looks rather promising. Kenny is being very aggressive with his offers; hopefully, he gets this guy in Black and Silver.
-
Wow. I heard 6,000 the other day. Anyway you cut it...bad things.
