  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 07:50 PM) If we could just get a competent offensive contribution by our center fielder, we'd have a tremendous offense. He'll get there. We can handle one spot without production. We can't, however, handle two automatic outs back-to-back. We can afford less production in the nine spot until he gets his bearings.
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 07:47 PM) We're also going to have to use more then Brandon every 7th and 8th inning. Neal has had one bad outing when the game was already out of hand. He's still our best reliever imo(obviously brandon has been up to this point) but I'll take my chances with Neal every game. In time, Cotts will claim that 8th inning "set-up" spot again. In the mean time, I'm interested in getting as many Ws as possible...in order to do that, McCarthy needs to bridge the gap.
  3. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 07:43 PM) Ball to the gap caught by JD. Good job Bmac! Wonder if there is somebody different in the 8th. If you're interested in losing. No one has stepped up yet. McCarthy gets the 8th.
  4. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) Arrelious Benn, the #1 WR in the class of 2007 for football and a surefire top 10 prospect, has announced his top 6 and has Illinois in it. http://louisianastate.scout.com/2/521786.html (premium scout story) Wow, Zook is the man. That's a long way away from landing him, my man. If his Zookers can't win a Big Ten game this season, that kid, or anyother worthwhile prospect, will not come to Champaign.
  5. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) Not watching the game but why are people worried about Garland. His pitch count is still pretty low and his line looks good. Is he getting hit hard or something like that? Just curious. He's not hitting his spots, Jabroni. He is not comfortable going inside and when he stays outside, he's missing up--not a good place to miss. But, make no mistake about it, it was a much better Jon Garland we saw tonight. His line is going to look awfully good, but, I wonder what it would have read had this not been against a Royals' lineup. /two-cents
  6. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 07:36 PM) Why would he be out? He's given up 5 hits (only 3 hit hard) and 0 walks in 6 IP. Who in their right mind would take a pitcher out with a pitch count of 75 in that situation?
  7. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 07:30 PM) He has only made a couple of bad pitches. 3 Ks. No walks. High outside changeup to Teahen. And a meatball smoked by Grudz. What's so bad about that? I didn't say he was "back to form" or anything but he looks good tonight. He has not made only a couple of bad pitches. He is clearly not hitting his spots. Watch where Widger has been setting up and watch where those pitches have been missing. You also tend to miss up when you miss outside and he's been doing exactly that--case in point: Teahen's HR. He looks better. I just can't make the jump to "really good."
  8. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) Definitely, and maybe 2 if he has a nice inning. Only 75 pitches. Looks really good. No, he's not looking really good. He's making mistakes. He is still missing on a good number of pitches, but, he's minimizing them and getting out of some jams. He's made some better pitches tonight, but, he is not there yet. His location isn't there and he isn't comfortable going inside. That said, tonight is a start and I'd like to see him pitch seven.
  9. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 05:28 PM) doesnt bother me at all. Me neither. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) I think its the pose. Thats the boy band "We are all such great friends!" pose right there. I think you should make it a no doubter. Exactly. Hilarious.
  10. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) I think its the pose. Thats the boy band "We are all such great friends!" pose right there. I think you should make it a no doubter. Now that's what I'm talking about.
  11. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 05:11 PM) That's how my hair is right now, and my nickname is Jerry. I love Pablo. Unrelated: I know that's Bone Thugs in your avatar, ace, but, everytime I see it, I think it's the Backstreet Boys or some other boy-band. I don't know if it's the jerseys or what, but, I can't help it.
  12. QUOTE(SnB @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 10:42 AM) ^ good to hear ian, my registration went smoothly for the first time ever too. Last semester it took over 2 hours, this time it was like 20 minutes. Love it. This is a first. I'm so stoked.
  13. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 07:10 AM) somebody who is going to the game needs to make a giant sign telling jon to pitch inside. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ AJ had a lot to do with that last season. He'll get him doing that again and Jon will right the ship.
  14. I actually got the four classes I was hoping to get next semester with the fifth right around the corner. f***ING A!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 07:04 PM) Contreras keeping the perfect game alive ^^^ Naturally. :headshake Damn, have you ever been on a baseball team?
  16. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 03:48 PM) If brian Anderson plays id like to see him have a nice game. Id like to see Mike Sweeny not have a nice game. Sox win 7-1 The Count - 7ip - 5 hits - 1 er - 2 BB - 5 k's White Sox -2 - Joe Mays 6 Is the game on here in Champaign, fellas?
  17. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 10:15 AM) No, it's about presenting yourself in a way the boss finds acceptable. They also have a rule about wearing suits and closed toed shoes when traveling. This is not uncommon as most teams have appearance rules. Socks are still optional, right?
  18. I very seldom do this, but, finishing a project just before deadline can be awfully satisfying.
  19. ...also a Tool fan. Quite excited.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 05:56 PM) Here's the biggest problem: It's brutally obvious that Pods just is a terrible baseball player when he's not 100 pct. We saw signs of this last year, and he's just been flat out awful so far this year. However, we don't have anyone that we can really place in LF for him to start on a regular basis. It's a tough call for KW and Ozzie....and I think it's a damn shame to mildly negate a red-hot 2/3/4 like we have right now. Bingo. You've hit the nail squarely on the head. For those of you calling for Podsednik to hit the shelf in hopes of some sort of double or triple A solution, what has this organization shown you in the past for you to believe they are protecting Scott Podsednik at this point? If you can't get it done, you're out. It's as simple as that. In fact, I would argue that's what helped get the 2005 team to post-season play. If the answer was there, Podsednik would be on the shelf. It's not. The answer is not there. What this situation--Podsednik as an automatic out at the top of a championship calibur ballclub--should tell you is neither Sweeney nor Owens are ready to make the jump. It's just not that easy. Hell, look at what Kenny's pride and joy is doing in centerfield. It is a nasty situation, that could be made worse both playing and not playing Podsednik. At this point, they've decided it's best for him--nay, the Sox--to try and work things out. It's not about protecting anybody's ego and if he can't get his s*** together in the next couple of weeks, they'll be talking more and more to the farm about, "are you sure Sweeney still has to work the holes out of that swing?"
  21. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) My specific question is where was Pods in the 9th? Mackowiak isn't considered a defensive upgrade unless you're talking about throwing arm, and then you would only think about putting him out there if the tying run was on third with A simple answer would be, "why risk a starter to injury when the game is in hand?" But, I'm sure you could have gone around the infield and could have made the same, if not better, cases for those starters. So, my answer would be something along the lines of, "why risk a starter to injury that is still bothered by a nagging injury." Which of the two makes more sense to you? The answer lies somewhere between those two.
  22. You know, even when this guy was having some poor innings in spring training, he consistently made good pitches throughout. Today, again, he made some very nice pitches, looked composed, and I heard Hawk say the gun at the stadium went off as high as 97mph. I highly doubt this guy is going to make or break the pen this year, but, at this rate, he'll be able to do all that is asked of him--eat some innings and get out some lefties.
