QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) Kiper misses just as often as anyone else. He knows his stuff, but I think just about anyone could know that much stuff if that was their job. Correct. I think that's where I was heading, but, my wording was misfortunate. I'm sick and tired of people saying anyone could know/do the jobs of people like Bruce Levine and Mel Kiper if they had the same resources. Well, you know what, you don't. They do. They get paid for it. They are in the know. You are not. /endrant

Jon Garland 2-1, 9.18 v. Jamie Moyer 0-2, 4.07 The White Sox will attempt to reach a nine-game winning streak tonight behind right-hander Jon Garland in the spacious Safeco Field, a mark the World Champion 2005 White Sox team never reached. Let's keep Scott Podsednik going. Podsednik is hitting .353 during the eight-game winning streak.

It's so fashionable to bash on this guy and his Eddie Muster looks, but, the truth of the matter is, this guy knows his stuff, is in the know, and rarely misses. I've been following the draft for years now and I have to say Kiper is quite good at what he does. Yes, every now and then he can be accused of having an ESPN East-coast-bias type vibe on certain players and certain programs, but, I like the guy, yeah.

Shannon Brown enters name in NBA draft
AddisonStSox replied to thedoctor's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Shannon Brown is much more NBA-ready than Dee Brown if you ask me. If I were Shannon, I'd make the jump. Speaking of jump, this guy is an absolute freak. I can't stand MSU basketball, but, I root for Shannon everytime he is on and I'm always on the edge of my seat. I don't know much about the NBA draft, but, I would love to have him in Chicago. This kid is just electrifying. War Shannon Brown. War insane dunks. War an easier MSU draw. -

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 06:48 AM) I'll take you up on your offer. I just decided I can use a new sig. I'd like it to include Bmac and Cotts due to their Soxtalk connection. I'd also like the Sox logo incorporated into it along with the 'word' YASNY. What do you think? I think your signature is an institution and I'd hate to see it go, old timer.

April 22nd Game Thread Twins at Sox
AddisonStSox replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2006 Season in Review
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 22, 2006 -> 10:25 AM) It's sad how much interest I've lost in the NBA, the Sox game is on at 6 and the Bulls opening playoff game is on at 7 and I can honestly say that the Sox take priority in this case. Though I will still be watching a good portion of the Bulls game one of the main reasons being they are on ESPNHD which is the best around. I haven't watched an NBA game in its entirety since the Michael Jordan years. Quite frankly, I would rather watch IRL racing, women's softball, volleyball, Australian Rules Football, lacrosse, tennis, etc. than the NBA. It's just awful. It's an awful league with an awful product and even worse "athletes." If the White Sox were eliminated from playoff contention, losing 8-0, and in the midst of a rain delay, I still wouldn't watch Bulls playoff basketball. -
Happy Birthday, big man!

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 01:41 PM) When I hear Jay Cutler, I think Kyle Boller. Some team will take a real risk with him if hes top 10. I'm thinking J.P. Losman.

Along with South Park, these are the best comedies on television. I pray they come back with another season or two...or three.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 01:58 PM) In fact it is over $100 million at $102 mil. With the cash the Sox have received in various deals they are paying out about $95 million of their own money, but the gross payroll is indeed the 4th highest in all of baseball at $102 million for 2006. That's all that matters. The rest is just a first-class job by Kenny Williams.
-
I have to admit, I never, ever thought I would see White Sox attendance translate into more payroll, but, Reinsdorf and company forced me to eat a bit of crow this season. Especially after a world championship, I thought the White Sox had every intention on cutting a bit of payroll. I was wrong. $100M payroll? May be a lot nearer that we ever thought.

The White Sox can afford one automatic out or one guy that needs to get on track in the lineup, but, can't really afford more than that. That's why this situation was so dire when Podsednik couldn't hit a four-seamer with a banjo. Now with Podsednik coming around--slowly but surely--and Uribe heating up, Anderson is the only problem and he is in the nine slot--the fewest AB's available. I agree it's not a good thing to have to wait around for a rookie to get his s*** together in a year where we're built to defend the title, but, I have no problem breaking one rookie in and I think this offense--when clicking--can support a lack of production at one position.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 09:05 AM) Okay, if you had to make a choice. Whose child would you rather be: Tom and Katie's or Brit and Kevin's? Ah yes, it's the age-old debate: Lazy v. Crazy

On that note, a group of us were having this discussion last night, and I came to the conclusion that if Jenks gets rid of his slider, develops a changeup and continues to throw upwards of 95mph, he can be the best closer in baseball within the next year and a half. I don't like a guy with that much arm torque using a slider which can be very rough on the arm, especially in a power-pitcher like he is. If he can develop a changeup, throw upwards of 95mph on a four-seamer and use that mean hook to a) get over for a first-pitch strike and b ) use as an out pitch, this guy can be one of the best, if not the best in baseball. ...and this is not the homer in me speaking. I really believe that.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 09:03 AM) What was the pitch he was throwing at 87 mph last night? Was that a change or a flat slider? That was an incorrect radar reading is what that was. They didn't clock him on any other pitch, and when they did, it was a four-seam fastball at 87mph? I think not. I don't know if it's possible, but, that could actually have been the speed of the ball coming off the bat, because, that was not an 87mph pitch.

This is the one I've been using: Whenever a Cubs fan attempts to get in a baseball scrap with me--something I don't even care to do anymore--I simply say, "Sorry, you're going to have to speak louder, I was at Game Two of the World Series last year and when Paul Konerko hit that Grand Slam, well, my hearing hasn't been the same since." That about does it. The conversation ends.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 07:48 PM) They aren't going to go ofer in the league again this year, and top 6 for a guy that might be the #1 player in the nation is pretty damn good. Plus, Zook brought in a couple of MD/DC prospects this year who are very close friends with Benn (one was his HS teammate in fact), so that can only help. It's obviously very early, but just being close despite recent suckage for a guy that good is a plus. I just read that article. Maryland, Notre Dame, USC, Illinois, Florida "Which one here is not like the other? Which one here just doesn't belong?"
