  1. Nothing against Uribe but Furcal is better at SS and can do more things for us at the plate. I don't think Atlanta is dying to move Furcal but after so many departures with nothing in return-they could bite on Uribe. Make no mistake about it though-Furcal is better than Uribe and a change of scenery will only accentuate that
  2. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 2, 2005 -> 04:29 PM) I have a wild card....when you get into the playoffs, you have to beat the best team out there. And one way to beat them is getting someone they badly need. If you look at the Yankees and Bo Sox, they both need pitching IMO. Their pitchers have injury issues or are geting up in age (Kevin Brown, David Wells, Curt Schilling, Randy Johnson, Mussina, Jared Wright etc) The one pitcher that will definitely be on the market will be Roger Clemens. If he goes back to the Yankees, we are focked because I just do not see us being able to beat the Yankees then, and if we are serious about a World Series win, we HAVE to stop them from getting Clemens. We have more to offer than the Yanks or Bo Sox. I would get Clemens, put the Count into the Bull pen and we are set for the playoffs. We improve our BP too that way. It's not a given by any menas that clemens is available. I'd pay a lot for him though if he were. The goal is to win it all
  3. I like Overbay too. Is he a first-half player only or ws last year just a one year thing and not a trend? He obviously won't hit over 350 all year but can he be a 330 hitter over 600 ab's? I don't know that answer
  4. I think Uribe for Furcal makes a world of sense because both teams would be contending but not really lose anything. We'd get a guy who can leadoff or hit higher in the order in Furcal with the best arm at SS in baseball and give up a guy of lesser talent. That said, Atlanta might be happy to get a guy in Uribe who they can control and is cheap. I think it'd be a trade that could potentially make a lot of sense for both teams.
  5. Billy Wagner would cost you Mac or someone like that. Brad lidge is 100% untradeable in my opinion. I think that baez, affeldt, or Otsuka would sot lesser but still very good prospects
  6. If he didn't say anything, then I'd assume that negotiations are not done but going well
  7. Overbay is a good idea-the only issue being that we'd have Everett-THomas-Overbay-Konerko for about two spots. You can always mix and match a bit but that's probably too many cooks in the kitchen. Billy Wagner can be the differencemaker for a World Series team-but man o man is that pirce going to be high. Not that I wouldn't pay it but it'd be tough.
  8. I do think that more starters use it than you think, but I do agree that relievers are perhaps the biggest part of the problem. Recall: relievers did not really exist in the pre-steroid era (in the way they are used now). There is a lot we don't know about what is human and superhuman for relievers. One thing I do not like is that every guy who drops in velocity gets suspicion. Now, I realize I just cited drops in velocity as a sign of use. However, going off roids will cause some guys to lose velocity and clean guys lose velocity. Do guys (and I hate bringing up names) like Jason Shcmidt and Keith Foulke get their reputations tarnished due to velocity drops? If so-that's unfortunate
  9. Yeah I think that the perception is that steroids cut your muscles but they can add strenght in a non-weight lifting way. I do think it is interesting to hear about how many relievers have had their velocity drop this year
  10. I don't believe that contending teams should trade away starting pitching. Then, you throw B-Mac into the pennant race which could be unwise. I think you'd get a better deal by waiting.
  11. Right but you don't use them if all of your starting five is under contract. While B-Mac should be in the rotation next year, he won't be. Moving Garland after the season at a high value could be a smart move
  12. Listen, I do not claim to be an expert on drugs. I am not. Are they detrimental to one's health. Sure. I just don't think that sports should randomly test for them. One's performance whould be what they are judged by. If they negatively affect your performance, the system takes care of you. As far as being uninformed on everything else, I do have it on good info that you are a dick
  13. I don't really like the idea of having a rotation that makes $40-50 million annually either though
  14. I won't even dignify the comments of one of the above posts but as for the last one, I don't think many jobs do drug test after hiring.
  15. Right, but baseball shouldn't be in the business of doing the job of law enforcement. Why is an athlete any different from a normal citizen when it comes to drug enforcement?
  16. Who was the last pitcher to get more than three years, navarro? I would let Jon go to arbitration and make him prove himself all of this year and next before signing a long term deal.
  17. I am not pro-drug by any means but I realyl do feel that it is not our business if an athlete is using recreational drugs. IF they want to drug test them when hired like a normal job-that's fine but I think testing for drugs is not really our business when it doesn't involve steroids, etc.
  18. he made a lot less money than I thought he made but his payday should be good no matter what he decides to do
  19. Even so, clearly Mark has outpitched Duke and Contreras and maybe even Freddy. His last start inflated his era a bit
  20. I don't think that the mlb should crack down on drugs in general. It has nothing to do with enhancing performance. Librarians aren't tested for marijuana and athletes shouldn't be either in my opinion
  21. I believe once you test positive you are on accelrated testing but I'm not sure when that kicks in and there is a chance I'm thinking of football
  22. Here's my question: Let's say you injected steroids last week. This week you get tested and fail and are suspended for ten days. Upon your return, about three weeks after using, you get tested again within 2 weeks or so. Wouldn't you still test positive from the initial usage? Do they give you a free pass since you say it's fromt he first time?
  23. I know it was Julio Lugo who bounced his wife's head of the hood of their car. It's no tequila bottle but still nasty stuff
  24. that would imply that the roster spot can be filled
