Skiles get screwed
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Purdue129's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I am aware that it is a regular season award. THat said, if one is going to argue that Skiles was clearly better this year then the playoff results might not weigh into the decision but do in the bigger picture. To beat the SPurs in the West is much more impressive than simply making the playoffs as a mid-talent in a top heavy but weak East. Now don't get me wrong, Skiles did a fantastic job though -
Skiles get screwed

And guess who didn't win in the playoffs? This argument is a splitting hairs one. -
Not sure where I heard differently but you are probably right. My Seattle friend is greatly impressed with the way Reed plays Center which was a concern at Safeco. Looks like he will be a good one and I think most around here are wishing him the best.

Dan Lebatard

As the Haker would sya: spinmasters, that's all they are-spinmasters. -
I can't call us bandits yet when we supposedly insisted on dealing Reed instead of Borchard. Sitll happy with what we got though, we just didn't fleece them.

The difference in quality from ATH to PTI is night and day. Maybe Wilbon and Korn don't always know every player in every sport or every stat but they are damn good columnists and talking heads.

Dan Lebatard

Both are incredibly valuable as evidenced by their teams improved record. MVP is always a tough argument with the definition up in the air. I refuse to feel bad for Nash winning just because Simmons/Lebatard are trying to squeeze a few columns out of this. -

Lebatard is in bed with Shaq and Ricky Williams. It was an article meant to stir which is a shame because it diminishes slightly the great year Nash had by even talking about this. Bill Simmons has argued the same thing and it's just bad journalism -
Skip Bayless Stephen A. Smith

Today Bayless said players should have contract language that voids their deals if they....go to a nightclub. Unreal -

He's interested in my Broncos. Denver has had an iffy offseason and we don't need to make it worse by adding this distraction -

I remeber that great Colon game ont he 4th of July where Koch gave up the bomb to Crawford. Uh. LEt's erase those types of memories by taking care of business. As bad as Nomo-san is, we haven't had a lot of guys see him too much so hopefully we do take a good approach -
Who will have a better record?
Punch and Judy Garland replied to DBAHO's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Name a wrose tema for Braylon Edwards to have gone to? I can't not Arizona, as Boldin was great there his rookie year. I mean, it's terrible weather, you play elite defenses in the division and conference, you don't have a QB that's better than average and you will be on a team that likely runs the ball a lot. Can't get much worse there. -
I know as an AJ hater that I have litle credibility on this but it's probably too easy to give AJ a ton of credit for the staff's start. Maybe he is but it's really hard to say with young pitchers exactly what has caused them to come around.

My impression of Burke at first was he was a butcher. just from what I saw in a couple of games
-
Sounds like we can't get him then. Too bad, it's refreshing to hear about a kid who loves Chicago and the Sox

What do you guys think of this trade?
Punch and Judy Garland replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in The Diamond Club
All of RIchie's shortcomings (mainly K's) don't hurt you in a fantasy league. I would rather have Sexson. -
Carlos Lee still a Cub Killer
Punch and Judy Garland replied to FlaSoxxJim's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
THey will make the playoffs but their lineup seems to go quiet latel, whether it was the Sheffield/Lopez version or the one with Jones/Jones/Drew and hteir offense is obviously worse this year. That said, Chipper is an MVp caniddate and looks great the plate this year. THeir rotation is no doubt much better but their bullpen really misses Smoltz, Cruz, and Alfonseca. Will Kolb be good enough? Do they have guys besides Reitsma who can get outs? Not sure. -
Jeff Allison back on the mound

I thought like Josh Hamilton, we'd never see him again. Out of High school he was viewed as the second coming of Josh Beckett so here's to hoping he stays sober and thrives -
QUOTE(elrockinMT @ May 5, 2005 -> 09:24 PM) You are not a true baseball fan unless you know every player card issued by Topps and the stats listed on the back. Can you do that? Simply because you appear on a sports talk show like BBTN doesn't mean you are an expert. I believe their scripts are written for them and probably by young interns judging by their drivle-dribble-rubbish sometimes. But, when we get kuddos I luv it too. I have no idea what you are trying to say here to be completely honest. I do however not believe that their scripts are written for them. Not sure where you are going with the baseball card thing though.

That's true. I was thinking of his last start of the year as his best but you are right about Cleveland. But let's be honest, we need to see him show that kind of brilliance on occasion against the Red Sox and Twins of the world. Still, his year has been more consistent than most would have hoped for so no real complaints here
-
Actually JG's stuff is probably not that close, that's how good Jose's is. His stuff is in that class of guys like AJ Burnett in my opinion. His fastball isn't quite as good as guys liek him and Beckett but his forkball is of course one of the game's better pitches. I didn't mena to imply that Jose hasn't been good, it's just that his mroe dominant performances of the past two years usually involve the Royals. In my opinion, you will see a huge trend in the next few years towards quick work based on the success of Buehrle and Mulder and a few others

Not to be a dick (I am one of the bigger Jose backers) but I don't get really excited about today because he faced KC who he owns

Official NBA Playoffs Thread
Punch and Judy Garland replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Maybe when he got the first technical he took away the refs' goodwill. -
I think that the Marlins and D-Backs have been interested and probably still would be interested in the Count, but you obviously don't trade starting pitching during th eyear when you are winning. Could be something to think about during the offseason though.

Qwerty, I always find it funny when fans complain that they know more about their team than the national media does. Of course. I mean, if someone invests 20 hours a week watching gmaes and then 10 hours a week reading about them in the paper and fansites, and then 15 hours a week watching sports talk radio, well you get the picture.
