  1. The only teams he has handled well have been KC and Seattle and those teams were just once so I do hesitate to get excited because I thought he was turning around a wek ago and that didn't turn out
  2. you mena because it was a ball low? Glad Shingo got the save tonight and Crazy Carl showed why he's our best non number #35 hitter
  3. Jermaine has entered Roger Dorn territory where we celebrate his better foul balls
  4. Nope and stretch usually causes the ball to hit the wall
  5. I kind of think the price for Overbay has been overstated. Not many teams need a first baseman and those who do wan tmore pop at first than Lyle gives you. Not saying he's a guy I wouldn't love to have but I don't think there would be many suitors. It might be just us and Boston although I expect them to be in on Mike Sweeney
  6. Prior was too special in college for me to believe that he is on steroids
  7. 11-16-04 tribune BEST WISHES to Steve Stone, former broadcast color analyst for the Chicago Cubs and WGN-Channel 9, on his marriage to attorney Lisa Johnson on Sunday at the Sanctuary Hotel in Scottsdale, Ariz. I was told the bride looked radiant and Stone very handsome in his tux. Chicagoans who were on hand for the festivities included top restaurateur Rich Melman and wife Martha, WGN Radio's Dave Kaplan and wife Mindy, Chip Caray (now broadcasting for the Atlanta Braves) and his wife Susan, and businessman Lou Weisbach.
  8. I think you are depending too much on all of our prospects panning out and the attrition rate of such guys says that not all will
  9. I respect that and I will respect him more if he protects his source. That would show integrity
  10. It's weird because it starts as a ten best free agents and then I expected ten worst but it kind of goes off in another way. They rip Beltre for hitting 238 and say that Paul knew something by letting him go, but he gave Betlre's money to Drew who is hitting 260 at a less valuable position which might have been worth pointing out had it not hurt his argument
  11. Anyone else feel this is getting blown WAY out of proportion? I mean, I've heard worse whining out of Phil for sure. As far as the integrity of the league goes, obviously that hasn't always been the NBA's top priority as a previous poster astutely pointed out
  12. i do find it funny that JR gets credit when teams are going well and blame when things are going bad, YET-people on the other side of each debate always cite that he has less control than people think. It's kind of funny.
  13. yeath that's what he does, he's a sports Drudge type of site
  14. they hardly exist in baseball but its worth noting that Konerko may be one of the more popular players on the Sox but he doesn't sell tickets either. It's not like kids are coming to the park in mainly Konerko jerseys. I would not let popularity play into the decision too much.
  15. This certainly sheds light on the myth that steroids are a thing from the mid-80's on like I sort of thought. I don't know if I believe 7-8 players per team but it is likely more than we all thought
  16. Trust me, it's not the Maggs defenders who can't let this go. Most of us would just as soon wish him the best and hope we continue to win. Oddly, even though we are in first, it's the Maggs detractors that can't let it go. I think it will stay this way until he comes here and gets booed so that we can close the book on this.
  17. this from benmaller.com It was less than six hours to show time, but Dan McNeil didn't know whether the show would go on. McNeil's contract with WMVP-AM 1000 was set to expire after Monday afternoon's "Mac, Jurko & Harry" show, but a station official had sounded a warning to McNeil's agent, Bryan Harlan. "I went home Friday night under the premise that they wanted me on the air [Monday]," McNeil said Monday morning. "I watched sports all weekend planning to do a three-hour show. Then I find out [sunday] night that if we don't have a deal agreed to in principle, I might not go on. I wish they would pick a lane. I could have played golf in Phoenix instead of watching sports all weekend." McNeil hadn't been given an explanation about WMVP's stance. "I don't know if they're afraid I'll do a goodbye show or rip on ABC management," he said. "I'm not the smartest guy, but I'm also not entirely brainless." As it turned out, McNeil did go on the air Monday even though he had not agreed to a contract extension. But by 5 p.m., the deal was done. Program director Len Weiner announced it on the air, proclaiming: "We're thrilled to say that you will be part of this radio station for years to come." Replied McNeil: "I'm here and I couldn't be happier. This is what I wanted as far back as a year ago." The five-year deal is worth about $600,000 a year, according to sources, and that doesn't include potential bonuses for continued strong ratings. As expected, McNeil essentially doubled his salary. The show drew a monster 6.8 rating among men 25-54 for the winter book, marking the first time an all-sports show has been No. 1 in any men's demo in Chicago.
  18. I don't think everyone here hates Maggs even though some try to paint that picture, for what reason I don't know. The Albert bashing reminds me of Ozzie's badnouthing of Frank in that I just wonder what anyone wanted him to do that he didn't? Aren't/Weren't they here to hit and that's about it? That's what both have done. I almost wonder if the organization gets mad at some fo these guys for not doing corporate things like A-Rod does. Could be one theory
  19. Helton's is a little longer but it is the same money. It just would make ZERO sense fo the Rockies to trade their most popular player to an inferior and older player (i think) in Giambi. They wouldn't do it. Would they do it for a package of Gibbons-Daniel Cabrera and Nick Markakis? Maybe. But not yet
  20. I would start Widger but after the off day you might as well throw the R/L thing out and use AJ the more I think of it
  21. We'v enever had a Sox team like this that seemed to literally require the better parts of the bullpen every single game. Due to that, we have to make some decisions that look iffy at the time in the long term interests. That said, Ozzie doesn't always seem to have the longer view he should
  22. I like Phil and I don't really blame him for the Albert comment but it is a shame the way that Belle's career has been disregarded. I implore you to name another player in your white sox lifetime that you would have been more afraid to see in a 5-3 game int he 9th with the bases loaded. He was just a doubles and homer machine. He also put together possible the greatest non-Frank season in White Sox history in my opinion. I've written Neyer pleading with him to consider a column on Belle's HOF worthiness (he wouldn't because he doesnt think so) but if you compare his career to a Ralph Kiner then he's worthy. Was Tony Perez better than Albert Belle. No way. TOo bad his career was cut short. Lastly, all of the negative stuff about Albert came after he left and I don't trust it that much. He wasn't going to win TIme Man of the Year but we heard a lot of bad things about him but I don't think he was disruptive or anything. Rant over
