  1. you are only as smart as your options and Pena had none
  2. How can you say no to Billy Wagner? I am sadly officially off the SHingo bandwagon. It was a fun run
  3. As a side not rent "the Life and times of Hank Greenberg" at BB. Great film
  4. Don't follow that logic Nuke. They rented out a pitcher they weren't going to resign for their CF of the future and still possibly their catcher of the future.
  5. He gave a large discount. He's worth every penny because of his defense combined with his driving in runs. He was 8 years 90 million if I believe. The Philly offer was well in excess of 100 million
  6. too bad. I though the was a good manager, mainly basing that off of 03
  7. Devastating news. I hope he's better really soon. I take it it's his left shoulder? I guess that would be a bit better
  8. I don't mind getting beaten, just beating ourselves. WHen you fail to hit like we did tonight against a struggling pitcher and if you walk as many guys as we did then you are embarrassed. I will never complain about our staff giving up hits, but man do I hate those gimme walks.
  9. we urinated away two leads as fast as we could tonight. Not really happy with any facet of the game tonight as even Marte and Viz caught Contreras disease by falling behind too much. We gotta salvage this thing tomorrow
  10. They have uis taking White Sox fan and local product Cesar Carillo who has neve lost a game at Miami. It's just a mock but it makes me happy for now.
  11. I wouldn't argue much with Shaq being the mvp. I think what happens is that everyone realizes that they have failed to properly embrace a guy, which happened with Nash. Plus, it just seems like a charmed year for him with getting shown the door in Dallas, the best record in basketball, and the all-star weekend Suns domination. It's the year of the Suns and Nash. Hopefully there will be a showdown with Miami in the end.
  12. Amare-Marion and Joe Johnson didn't win last year and Q-Richardson wasn't the reason for the turnaround, Nash was. The argument that Nash isn't the mvp, as employed by the Sports Guy, is flawed. His reasoning is that Nash is just doing what a good point guard should do. Unfortunately, he leaves out that Shaq does what a good post man should do. Clearly, both players far exceed the average expectations of their positions which is why the "doing their jobs" argument is stupid and not wel thought out
  13. If memory serves correctly, he filled in for Mike Cameronadmirably upon his departure. Seemed like a nice enough guy
  14. I always thought his passed balls were youthful lapses in concentration. I don't watch enough Seattle baseball to say how he's worked on that
  15. He's a decent hitter at the plate as far as catchers go with his pop. He wouldn't be the first guy to have his pitches called from the dugout though. I'd take him back. Plus I remain loyal to guys who hit grand slams off the Cubs!
  16. The Everett and Rowand (i think) ab's early on with ducks on the pond were a chance to pound Nomo and we failed to execute. That seemed to allow Tampa's pitching to settle down.
  17. I think he's overrated because he is considered by many to be the best gm in baseball which just isn't true. He's a very good gm but unfortunately he gets overrated due to hype that is beond his control.
  18. I always figured giving the ball to a little kid would help you get laid if you brought a date to the game
  19. What is dap short for? Just curious as I use it too, that and Tony's other saying "THAT's...how I roll."
  20. I hate having to be forced into winnign the last tow of a series but that's how it goes sometimes. I hate playing in that dump. I think the boredom of it rubs off on the O. Let's go get them tomorrow
  21. I worry about the D-Rays pen. THey are a lot like Detorit in that they have bad numbers but live arms. Hopefully we get something going
  22. All that is true about the talent level but the Bulls were still a middle of the pack team wheras the Suns took down the mighty Spurs. Also, MIke made a coaching move that many others wouldn't which was breaking convention and playing his 5 best players instead of trying to change his players to fit the normal mode. Petty gutsy
  23. Just wanted to mention I saw Mike Pelfrey pitch on Friday and here was my review: After following him for a few months, and interviewing him and some guys from BA for a WSIU feature, I finally got to see Pelfrey pitch. He came to Carbondale, IL on Friday. He did not disappoint. When I heard that he was 6'7 215 I thought that he'd be tall but without a major league body but that is not the case. His fastball was pretty good as the only hits were really metal bat shanks to opposite field which is a good sign. I loved the way he attacked the strike zone with his fastball more than any other pitch. He didn't overrely on his other stuff. That other stuff was better than advertised though. His power curve has been touted and it made hitters look foolish. I was most impressed by how much better his changeup looked than what I had heard. I heard it was a major league pitch but it looked like a plus pitch on Friday. He induced a lot of groundball outs while going for abotu 130 pitches, which he has the body and arm to do. His line inlcuded no walks, 6 hits, no walks, and 8 K's in a compltet game shutout. One thing that caught my eye was the way he clamped down on Southern after getting the 3-0 lead in the second. Twice was there runners on 2nd and third with less than two outs and he didn't allow a run either time. He knew how to pitch with a lead. After the game, I went over and got him to sign my USA mini helmet and he was very nice. He was very appreciatve and shook my hand which was nice. Seems like a good kid. Now, there were a lot of big league scouts there. Dozens. The ones that identified themselves by wearing their letters were the Texas Rangers, New York Yankees and the New York Mets. I heard many other clubs had people there. The interesting name there is the Mets who might look at him if he slides to 9 due to signability. I do have my feature available to hear but I have no clue how to post that here. Thanks for reading.
  24. Yeah, Karl is a great coach but to me he more got out of them what they should have been, not more than they thought they were if that makes sense. I guess Fratello can't get much consideration because it would make no sesne to have the Coach of the Year be from the same team two years in a row.
  25. Not sure who you are referring to there sleepy. Was Fratello up there?
