one thing i think we can all agree on is that we can't afford to have a month or two at a time this year where uribe/harris hit .120. That was a real problem last year, hopefully they will both be more consistent this season

Are you f'n kidding me??
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Punch and Judy Garland's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(T R U @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) This "rumor" is bulls***, made up Theres no way in hell Arizona even thinks about that deal.. I hope you are implying that the source yahoo got it from made it up -
Virtually every player that comes up seems to play SS, CF, or Catcher. THat's just where a HS or College team puts its best player. If you think Paulie would be a sick catcher, think for a second if Carlos Delgado would have stayed at catcher......

I think the 9 for 20 of Uribe was Ozzie ball gone awry. I enjoy it but some guys can't run. Some guys need the breaks put on them.

Frank invited to testify about steroids
Punch and Judy Garland replied to CSF's topic in Pale Hose Talk
nto that I don't agree with you on that, but Frank sometimes marches to his own beat. I'm not sure that he should be subjected to scrutiny if he chooses not to go, but you are right that he would be. Perhaps they asked him there just tio see if his part of the book was true, thus either damaging or strengthening Canseco's credibility. -
Frank invited to testify about steroids
Punch and Judy Garland replied to CSF's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You guys are exactly on point. I am not happy that they invited Frank. Schilling will escape criticism because he's a media darling of sorts, but I worry that Frank's name will be dragged through the mud a little bit. That said, who knows if he'll even show. -
Thank you for the kind words, despite our occasional disagreements, I respect your opinion. I just feel that I am not getting a lot of joy out of coming to this site lately because I feel that people are branding dissenting opinions as being agenda driven-as you pointed out. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Sox fan. I just find it frustrating to be antagonized at times on this board. I am not a dissenter. But some of my opinions do not fall in line with management or even most sox fans. I just think this site has shifted (in the last couple of months) into a "talk radio" message board. I think those who have questions about the Sox are often just trying to rile up people on this board for the most part. I don't want soxtalk to morph into a place where there is only one line of thinking and I will continue to point out when I think the board is regressing to that place.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) Or it might have been 75 without crack. That would probably be taught at Canseco Medical School.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 12:19 PM) Regarding Fisk. My main bone of contention is that they wouldn't let him visit the clubhouse during the playoffs. Inexcusable, imho. As for the release, Carlton's pride was hurt because he was released. He probably would have been pissed no matter how that occured. I also get the impression that Carlton is one stubborn SOB, so I don't see any fence mending in the near future though I suspect JR would be all for it. Regarding prospects. I think KW has established his M.O. is to draft, develope and trade prospects for veterans to fill needs. Prospects are always questionable. Some work out, possibly like Reed. Others don't, Hummel, Ring, etc. I think you can expect more of the same. Personally, if you can trade a prospect for a need to get over the hump, do it. Regarding payroll. I'm glad they are saving some to fill holes that appear during the season. Whether it be due to injury or ineffectiveness, those holes always arise. Sometimes the moves you don't make are the ones that pay off for you. For example, based on Crede's production the past two years, another person may have replaced him. Yet, if Crede has solved his problems this offseason, it may pay off that KW didn't make that move. I agree with you, but none of those guys has gotten us over the hump yet. You can claim bad luck, but sooner or later there needs to be accountability for failed moves.

tradin Carlos got us SPod, Luis, El Duque, AJ."" we could have gotten more for Lee. We didn't get Duque and AJ for him. We could have traded Lee for a better player like Castillo and still have made some signings. How come I'm foolish for believing it was a bad deal now, but you aren't for thinking it was a good deal already? Probably has something to do with the only opinions welcome around this site anymore are those made by the kool-aid drinkers.

thanks. I actually ended up looking them up after I wrote that because I got curious. You forget about the greatness of Doc sometimes.

Michael Bennett and a #2 for Anquan Boldin? The Cardinals are a very bad organization. Michael Bennett hasn't been healthy for two years and Boldin showed what he can do in 03. Boldin and Larry Fitz were in mismatched roles last year which affected Boldin's role (besides the knee injury). I think the Vikings would LOVE to make this happen

I'm too lazy to look it up but you'd have to figure that Sabathia, Steve Avery and Dwight gooden all would have had more victories at a similar age.

QUOTE(CubKilla @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 11:09 AM) Drop dead JR :fyou . Nice of you to pass the buck on the Fisk issue. Any and all player decisions..... and the way they are treated when said decisions are made..... begin and end with you. My problem witht hepayroll thing is a bit different. I feel that it is smart to leave yourself some room. If Buehrle tears a rotator cuff (god forbid) then you'd want to have an out. I agree with the Beane theory as far as part of the season is finding out who you are and what you need. But, my issue is with the trades. I feel that we overpay in terms of prospects to avoid actually paying the players contracts. I hope that the payroll room means that we won't trade one of the big three prospects in order to avoid paying another milion or two. That is because that is very shortsighted. You don't invest 2 million in signing bonus money and time developing to skimp out on the same money later. As far as the interview, pretty much company line stuff and nothing new.

i stand by my statement.

I think the Jags will not be happy with Hayward. They do need a pass rusher but all he does is sack the qb (and not otherworldly in that area), not much on the run. He is definitely this years Bert Barry.

I htink Royce's glove is really good. It probably has a lot to do with pushing Cintron/souring on Cintron. Royce never became the player people thought he might be, but I'd take him on my team. He hit pretty well the last few years in Colorado and his dropoff might not be all that much at friendly Arizona

nice to get hosed by the brew crew twice since the 04 season if this happens

Sox have Korean Pitcher try out
Punch and Judy Garland replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
One thing to remember about a guy who hasn't thrown in four years (at least competitively) is that you can't get many innings out fo him. Otherwise you get shoeney disease -
Bears after Jay Fiedler??
Punch and Judy Garland replied to EvilJester99's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Fiedler is a bit like timmy rattay, a great backup but a fringe starter. Still, it's good to have that type of guy. -

Bears after Jay Fiedler??
Punch and Judy Garland replied to EvilJester99's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I think Holcombe will start in Cleveland. Jay would be a very solid number 2. We'll find out how bad NY wants him. -
I menat depleted in a relative way. We are a mid farm system. I think the big problemis that we don't have a guy that is major league ready that is a star waiting to happen. Sweeney,Anderson and Bmac could be there by 06, and it's going to take time to figure where Allen, Lucy,Gio , Lumsden and Fields go. One thing is for sure in the business of prospects: Nothing is a given
