  1. It may not be all about steals but I don't think having a fat guy who can't run the bases lead off is good no matter how good his batting eye is. I reiterate that he is not known as a good person and that he also can't field or relaly hit all that much. He's worthless
  2. There are elitists in every area of interest. I don't think we have many here, but just more that good fans and good people accidentally stray that way at times. That said, it's March and if we can't argue about Timo Perez then this is going to be a long month. Lastly, We can't really whine about not having enough fans at the ballpark and then criticize those who come on half-price night and don't know who the starting pitcher is. You gotta take the good with the bad
  3. I know what you mean about the heat of the moment. Sometimes you dig in on a point and don't want to give it up or you accidentally invent supporting evidence. It's like when my brother said he'd rather have Ben Wallace than Kobe. Sometimes we let our emotions get in the way of reason. I do it all the time.
  4. "I know Adam Dunn, and Mr Giambi-you are no adam dunn" Give me a break, Jeremy Giambi sucks. Plus he's a bad clubhouse guy. When a moneyball team gets rid of you (these teams have brought in Milton Bradley, Jose Guillen) that tells you all of the character things you need to know. He was a joke as a leadoff hitter. Who wants a leadoff hitter that will go 160 games without a steal?
  5. You make a good point, but I will say that I think sometimes (trust me-myself included) can come off to casual fans as elitest and intimidate people into avoiding baseball because they don't know enough. I don't believe this anecdote applies to your particular situation, just something to remember. One of point I should make in the interest of accuracy is that The Whiffer Patterson is a much better defender than Pods.
  6. In his defense, he is the lowest paid coach in the league. I think they said it is something common for assistants (who make a decent but modest living) to do. I guess he just never figured to stop.
  7. I guess in the lat month his command was as bad or wrose than in the meltdown. This is very sad but I guess you have to trust the judgment of La Russa and Duncan
  8. 215 lbs for Juan? Did he order his weight scale from the same place that Sabathia and Colon got theirs?
  9. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-v...ov=ap&type=lgns They've wanted him gone and this might become an excuse to do so. THe problem is compounded by an ownership change scheduled to take place (peter king says it will be nixed). I think with Moss gone and the ownership in flux-the Vikes need a fresh start at the HC position. It's hard to do that without a real owner though
  10. While I think he's wrong here I actually think Steve Phillips is a good analyst
  11. I think its normal for a guy to have swelling after surgery.
  12. If I recall it is not believed that Drew will stay in the infield. I think he projects to move to Center if I remember the draft hype correctly. I'd still like to have him too though
  13. I was hoping for a lights out spring from Jose. Hopefully he'll turn it around soon but I am starting to think it might be the same old Contreras this year
  14. Yeah but you can't mention the draft choice without mentioning Prior getting 10 million.
  15. People have had pretty strong reactions to something they know very little about. Just wait a few days and see how it responds.
  16. Neyer does a pretty good job in todays article (I didn't see it posted elsewhere yet) of assessing the White Sox. He more or less sympathizes with the plight of the South SIde fan and said the Sox could win the division, but a whole lot of things would have to go right.
  17. After reading Peter King today I was wondering if someone could explain exactly how the supplemental draft works. He didn't come out and say that Matt Leinart is going to be in it but yesterday's column could indeed be one to look back on if news breaks in the coming months. I'd appreciate information on the process. Is it a lottery?
  18. Since he has another year left, someone could offer up a king's ransom for Zito. I think Mauer being 6-4 is a potential concern. Still I wouldn't tag him with injury prone just yet. Let's wait and see how this plays out first
  19. That's true. You would think so. But who knows with a Scotty B guy. His warchest is pretty sizeable
  20. I like PacMan a lot more. I know there is a height difference but I'll take the faster guy every time.
  21. I'm sorry but I don't get the whole RB thing for Minny. I think they have guys that can play already. Maybe they use a #2 on one. A recent scouting report on DJ I read didn't sound so good. Not sure if the Bears would like him at 4. Also, Mel now has Rolle going closer to 20. Not going to happen at 4 or 7 in my opinion
  22. I watched some show on Fox today that had a guy who wrote a book on Rather ripping him for a lack of credibility. What publication/station did he work for? That would be the National Enquirer.......
  23. looks like the Weaver price is 7.5 million. Hard to see JR approving a deal for that. Let me ask you guys something. Everyone and their mother knew what Drew and Wever wanted. WHy draft them if you aren't at least planning on being in the same ballpark as the. Boras proved with Drew that he'll have a guy sit out a year before he gives in too much. It just doesn't make sense to me.
  24. Even if he turns it around Crede iwon't be as good as the following: A-Rod Rolen Blalock Mora Chavez Beltre Ramirez David Wright (probably anyways) Chipper Troy Glaus
  25. 213 at home? Isn't Miller Park a hitters park? I think the knucklehead's problem is trying too hard to hit homers, a problem likeyl exascerbated by the Cell
