Official Sawx-Yanks 4/3/05 game thread
With most of the eyes of the sports world on Opening Night, figured I'd get a game thread rolling. I'm rooting for the Yanks and the Unit because I can't stand Red Sox fans. Should be a good one if it's not rained out.

The truth about A-Rod
this doesn't belong in the white sox portion of soxtalk. I'd say welcome aboard but you aren't off to a great start

Anyone else concerned about the pitching?
I'd deal B-Mac in a minute for Sheets but I think there is no way that the Brew Crew would do that trade. If they trade him, which it appears a given that they now won't, they are going to get a king's ransom.

Around The Majors
Sori for Contreras isn't a bad suggestion. It doesn;t fit now but sometimes these things work themselves out. I was a big Jose backer but, and I know spring isn't supposed to mena much, hes reall concerned me with not taking that next step yet in a Sox uniform. In fact he's really regressed. I bet Florida, with Valdez, is willing to listen to a trade offer in a few months.

MSU vs. UNC
good thing id din't bet or I would have lost on both games. I liked the two favorites but would have taken the dogs points.

Matt Jones
In general, when so many teams re in on a guy (Rams-Denver-Pitt) then someone will overreach for him. He may not go inthe first round TRU, you definitely could be right. BUT, I anticipate a team with a low two moving up into the high two's in the event that they wait past the first round. Bottom line, he will be picked in the top 50 for sure.

Opening Day gathering
I'm going to bump this. I'm really thinking about ditching class and making the trip up from Carbondale

Bobcats@ bulls.
How great is Okafor? I don;t think even his most loyal supporters could have expected this much so soon. Were it not for the explosion of young talent in past years (James-Anthony-Wade) then guys like Howard, Okafor and Bosh would get their due.

Royce Clayton speaks
I loved Royce's glove and understand that many don't like him humanly. However, I reserve Todd Ritchie comps for the Jaime Navarros of the world

Illinois vs. Louisville
First of all-Great shirt! Second of all-It's Miller Time tonight!

Mortimer addressed that non-chalance in his latest column

I disagree TRU, nobody has the buzz he has right now. Somebody MAY blink and take him at the end of round one. One odd thing is that only good teams have talked about taking him. That's kind of strange

Don't be surprised if Denver jumps in on him early if they are rebuffed in attemtps to make a run at Mike Williams higher on the board
-
Wilson Valdez
Technically no longer a White Sox player, I figured I'd post it here since he was so recently. Why did the Mets pick him up and waive him to the Mariners? Is he out of options and they tried to start him in the minors? I guess all that talk about how Ozzie loved him in Florida didn't mean much in the longrun.

Excellent. Welcome Cub Fans
Hey I love the Cardinals. Common enemies. Cubs talk? Is there no place sacred anymore?

neyer
what about Mariotti? Did you hear him three weeks ago repeating some annoying vague phrase : "This isn't the same Tom Izzo" . Good call by the man some here refer to as Kotex Boy

I got this as a side comment made on today's Hot List with everyone's favorite porcupined-hair host

Ordonez Might Miss Opener
I'm just saying that a very vocal and surprisingly large contingent of the board are so bllod-thirsty for Maggs to do poorly that there could practically be a thread for every 0 for 3. Guys-let it go. It's over. 2005 is about to start
-
Ordonez Might Miss Opener
you guys act like he has Pete Rose credibility.

neyer
I wasn't criticizing the pick, just his "likely" reasonign which I have never heard. It's just a hunch from reading him over the years. I actually like Neyer even though I often disagree with him. He's always been great about sending me back e-mail responses. He's just one of those guys with different views

neyer
I haven't heard/read his exact comments but I am thinking it has something to do with run differentials and how ours are always great. Rob needs to get over his anti-Minnesota angle. It really irks him that they win with an anti-moneyball philosophy. As much as I hate Minnesota, and I do, I'd love to hear what Neyer would say abotu an Anaheim-Minnesota ALCS. I'm sure he'd just call it luck,

Kurkjian on Twins and Sox
mastermind? I've heard much differently. Anyways-I am surprised that there is any dispute about whether our D was better a year ago. We are much better now. I totally disagree with ost of the moves of this offseason and feel we are a worse team but I would never say that we aren't better on D. That is for sure
