  1. I think by using all of those relievers a little bit, all hands would have been on deck tomorrow night at Minnesota. Herm might not have been able to go tomorrow if he went a couple today. Obviously, things worked out to where one or more guys isn't available tomorrow but that might have been the original thinking.
  2. I don't mean to add any pressure (not that he reads this anyways) but this is the ONLY reason we brought in El Duque. His MO is that he is a money pitcher. You feel kind of funny calling the fourth game of the year a money game, but let's face it-it's worth slightly more than your typical game. Tomorrow isn;t the end of the world if we lose but it is a tremendous oportunity to let Minnesota know that we have a new top starter in town
  3. An inning is not an inning in my opinion. There are a lot of guys who have proven they can't pitch the ninth (Hawkins, Politte, Maybe Dotel and Mota-jury is out). That said, Herm was pretty decent in the ninth last year. The book says you go with your closer in the ninth and I bet Shingo bounces back this weekend. Hopefully he doesn't face Mauer or Morneau should he play.
  4. I'll add this point to the thread from a different game so I don;t have to create a new one. I keep hearing about how A-Gone doesn't walk enough for Florida, and he sure doesn't. But, couldn't you argue that walks for the 8th place hitter are overrated int he NL since you have the pitcher behind you? Isn't it a grip it and rip it situation?
  5. Is it just me or does Sosa look different at the plate just a bit. Maybe his front foot is out further and his build looks more slender maybe. He just appears to have a different feel to him at the plate-could be closer to it.
  6. 60 pitches is a lot for anyone other than the long reliever. Hey, at least now we know why Widger made the cluib over Davis
  7. come on danman. That's bulls***. Mind your own business? If the privacy of your comments meant so much you wouldn't have typed them in a public forum. Calm down or go screw yourself
  8. QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 03:46 PM) f*** you Shingo. God damnit. Really? Go root for the Yankees then with that weak loyalty
  9. I would have gone with Shingo. It wouldn't have worked today but it's like Doubling Down on 11, even when it doesn't work you should still have done it.
  10. Damn. I had Friday the 22nd in Kansas City as a night game as Hawk's first noticeably drunk performance. I can't get his perofrmance out of my head from a year ago when I think it was valentin hit a few dongs.
  11. My worry is that we are a pitching heavy team (payroll wise) whose pitching is in question. We only have two long-term starters (and that isn't really long term) so hopefully we'll be able to replace Jose-Dukes-Contreras in 1-2 years with B-Mac and two wise choices.
  12. I share the same concerns and anyone who definitively says otherwise is full of it. Nobody knows anything right now. Can you play smaller ball in a hitters park in the AL? We just don't know yet. Is that style of baseball more consistent? It seems like it would but this is sort of an experiment in prgress. Hopefully it works and a lot of people , myself included will be proven wrong. Nothing would make me happier.
  13. thanks, I forgot they list the tv station there. I won;t get to see a game until I come home on Friday night. Not complaining though, I get to see the whole Minnesota series
  14. Now we test the theory about Ankiel being moved to the OF as a way to sneak him thru waivers. We'll see.
  15. No matter his stuff, I'm not sure why they believed Dempster was a lock to be good. I remember his runs in Florida and Cincinati weren't exactly results-strong
  16. that was a great point. Why would a free agent want to come to the Sox if all they hear is bad stuff said about guys who leave. KW does need to try to put the clamp down if he can
  17. ou would use Rowand more effectively down in the order because he's no adept at going to the right side or bunting as much as he is at just ripping it. GOoch, and Japanese players in general follow this, seems fundamentally sound and can do many things withthe bat
  18. this is an odd and small thing but how neat looking was the catch on that sac fly? Just saw it on mlb tv arcive and loved how DJ said Wickman doesn't give up homers before Konerko came up. You can always count on the DJ jinx. THis time it worked for us
  19. Plus I think Mo hurried back a little this year from arm pains. I bet in a few weeks he'll look like the Rivera of old. In the meantime get ready for Sportcenter to give this more coverage than the Pope funeral gets from cnn.
  20. I saw it during hte mlb package. Pretty funny though, we'd love it the other way around. Still, hopefully we grab two this weekend
  21. People on this board were generally excited for the team after the offseason but I wouldn't say the fanbase in general was. They all think that we lost our best players. Time will tell whose right
  22. it's hard to play sports sick. Maybe he rushed back a little soon to play on Opening Day because he wanted to quiet naysayers about his knee. I bet he'll (hope anyways) that this stomach ailment goes away soon
