Konerko has hti the long ball but has been brutal thus far in key spots. It's hard to argue with sending Willie because the odds of getting either Ozuna to have an extra-base hit or to string together two more consecutive hits were remote. I don't think it was a bad call by Ozzie at all. Would Tito have been an idiot if Dave Roberts were thrown out by the Yankes? I would hope not. The same problems came up today that have plagued this team so far which are as follows: 1.A surprising lack of exeuction which is critical for a team built on the necessity of offensive execution 2. A general lack of aggressiveness with stealing when the right guys are up. We've seen the wrong guys like Carl get sent but I'd like to see more attempts with some of the other guys. 3. Just nobody hitting. Crazy Carl has been rpetty good and Gooch has been fine but everyone else has been awful. Hopefully AJ, Rowand, and Dye all come out of this really soon. -

I hate ot overreact after a bad outing and his numbers this year are still good, but I'm starting to believe the Baseball Prospectus about Garcia not really being a whole lot better than average as a starter. I think it's clear now after 4-5 months of season on this team that he isn't a number one starter and maybe he's better as a third starter -

It's always puzzled me in general why more players don't tag up from first on a ball to right or right-center. WHo caught Uribe's ball Ichiro or Reed? THat probably makes a difference -

Starting Pitching in Great Shape, 1-6

You have to figure the Huff price will be high, one our big three prospects high. I think we'll be in need of a good lefty out of the pen tp get one batter out. One of those Buddy Groom types. Still, it is hard to say this early with injuries, etc. -
THere is a school of thought that Jose's ddefense is not so bad which has been backed up by statistics. Not saying I agree or disagree with it but I was saying is that the difference is closer than one might think. Jose is much better with the bat than Joe though, I'm surprised that has been as disputed so much.

Those are great numbers, but perhaps most surprising to me is how many day games he's pitched in. I expect that many decisions out of a Cub pitcher but it's pretty impressive to have 15 wins in two years as a day pitcher for a west coast team and the sox -

Is it just me or is Freddy seemingly incapable of throwing a shutout? He seems to always maek that mistake with location on a fastball, usually around the belt, that gets punished. It seems that he always gives up 2-3 runs even when he's dealing. Is this just me? -
I must say in the small sample size-Willie has been good with the stick. He' stopped slap hitting like Luis Castillo and has been more rip it and grip it. The result is pulling a lot of balls that could be danbgerous down the line. I'd like to see him maybe get a little mor PT, especially with Pods out

I'm with Bayless on everything....nearly everything. I do take issue with hi saying that Owens hurt the Eagles int eh Superbowl. Did he see the game? Owens was very good and more Greg Lewis over Owens would have hurt the Eagles-it's laughable. My other issue is with Bayless saying it's not personal-it;'s business. Bayless says this but his essays about Bonds, Owens, and Emmitt Smith just to name a few are often shoots on their character and them as persons. I have a hard time buying the personal thing. The truth is that Bayless has made the personal, business over the years

how do you change the proxies? I don't think I know what that means. Thanks

Us paying Hermanson more than other teams would have and there being minimal interest in AJ from around the league didn't hurt ..........

The Broncos are on the clock
Punch and Judy Garland replied to knightni's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
We are in on Campbell in round two because he don't have a valid backup but we will be in on Matt Jones. Not saying we will take him, but there is a good chance. Now that we have a lot of bodies on the line and LEnny Walls in the fold again, I say we go against conventional wisdom of taking a corner or a 3-4 tweener and grab Jones or make a play at moving up for Williams. The Broncos might additionally look at the TE position which would caus them to flip Putzier to the Jets. I see them searching for an impact player on the offensive side of the ball. -
It's amazing how two mistake pitches can cause 6 runs and give you a bad line isn't it?
-
A unrealistic as it is, I don't believe that the fans should know what players make because it isn't out business. It's not our business what the grocery store clerk makes and I feel similarly with ballplayers. I guess the one good thing that comes out of knowing is accountability of ownership but I don't get hating a guy for his paycheck either.

Still, this is going to bite us in the end. EVERY player that has left in the last year has been spoken of in some negative capacities. I really think free agents would hesitate to go somewhere if the perception is that you will leave on bad terms. Ozzie and to an exten JR/KW have a long ways to go in improving the image of the Sox as a place a player can trust.
