QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) Eaton at this stage of the game (when healthy) is a better pitcher than Young, imo. However, long term Young will probably be the better of the two. Otsuka was a stud in the pen. I like this trade a lot more for the Rangers. Their pen could be pretty solid next year and it wasn't this year. Another puzzling move to me by Kevin Towers who I always liked

It sounds like a lot of people involved in this thread hav enever seen Jose Vidro play. He's not a special player. Ryan Church is not a special pitcher. If you wouldn't trade those two for Wood then you are being a total homer for the Sox

Horrible trade for the Nats? What are you crazy? Thats a terrific trade for the Nats and the type of trade for the Cubs that gets a gm run out of town.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 12:04 AM) If Contreras and Garland dont want to resign at a fair price.... trade them both Before anyone jumps on Jose, consider that maybe the Sox offer was insulting. If they offered 2 years/15 million or so then its a joke of an offer

Lewis would be an excellent pick -

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) Doesn't matter, The bears still have Ron Turner ..ak John shoop at the helm of the offense. Grossman full skills will never be used until Shoop v2 is gone. Well here's the thing: I'm not sure that the Chargers can get too much in return for Rivers. They likely can't get more than a 2 from the bad teams because the Lions, Jets, Ravens, etc. aren't going to part with a top 10 pick for Rivers. They would likely only offer that high 2. Will the Bears have to go with their low #1 to acquire him? Perhaps as the Dolphins might wish to trump their offer with a pick around 12-18. Saban might not want to deal the pick however. It would seem that the Bears late 2 won't get it done so you'd have to think about dealing the #1 which always is a tough pill to swallow. The one disadvantage is that unlike a draft choice you can't work Rivers out first to test his arm strength in our wind conditions. Its not an easy call but I think you have to look at it (although I think the Bears stand pat at the QB position). BTW, the Broncos proved that you can add depth to the DB position without a #1 by taking WIlliams, Paymah, and Foxworth. The Bears could probably use one of those round picks to get some depth -
I'd love to get Frankie Francisco back in a deal (chair guy, former Sox farmhand) I believe he had shoulder troubles last year so he missed but he was unreal on the mound in 04

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) They are paying for a setup guy who's also a decent closer. Just in case Izzy gets hurt, they have Looper. That's what they are paying for. Howry and Eyre aren't closers. Those contracts are ridiculous. This one, while ridiculous, is more understandable. I actually think a team should have signed Howry to close as he did it with us. I think he'll take the job from Dempster at some point

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 10:00 PM) No thank you to Houston. They got garbage. There minor league talent is junk. And the Astros are trash. I would consider Garland for Lidge and a prospect. Add to our set-up man depth. well Lidge is certainly appealing. I don't have a problem with trading Garland for prospects but they should eitehr be more advanced than A ball or they should be elite if they are that low.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) The Drays don't want a pitcher like Garland. They can't resign him. They want pitchers like McCarthy, young guys who they would control there rights for at least a few years. Basically put the Drays wouldn't trade us Carl Crawford for Garland, let alone BJ Upton, they have zero interest in Jon. The only thing they'd do with Jon is trade him to another team. I think you are saying what they should want. THe Soriano for Kazmir offer suggests something else

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:53 PM) Remember, we can always let him walk and get 2 high draft picks for him (although that won't result in immediate help to our farm system, its a good way to start). I like the draft pick method better when its a guy like Randy Winn or Jacque Jones you let walk. You can't get a top 15 pick for him so that kinda hurts. MLB should let teams trade picks dammit

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:50 PM) If we can get a stud pitcher on the verge, but about a year away, and some solid nonOF position player prospects I would love a deal. I'd love to see the Sox get a 3B or 2B prospect, and maybe a Catching prospect. I agree, we likely do not have the catcher, 2B, SS, or 3B that will be on this team in 2008. It'd be nice if we could get that Hanley-Barfield type that we could hang our future hopes on in the infield
-
Well Taylor Buchholz hasn't lived up to potential, I know that. I know that Wandy, Backe, and the other dude have all been floated on the market but I don't think they have a Mac or anyone like that in the system
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:16 PM) And with Garland, as soon as his 1 year is up, he's gone. Alright Balta, why did they want to trade Scott Kazmir for Alfonso Soriano who is gone in one year>
-
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:23 PM) You know Billy Beane usually trades away young starters in their contract years when they will be due a lot of money... not trade for them... How is he gonna trade for Mark Teixera, a Scott Boras client, who it has already been whispered will be looking for baseball's next 100 million dollar contract?
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:06 PM) People know that I have a source that works with the team, and him and Young are the future of that organization. Well you may be correct
-
THe audience intros are the lest necessary part of the show. I just wonder how they'll stretch it to 30 minutes without Dave appearing
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 05:58 PM) Upton's not getting traded, END OF STORY! How do you know? I was stunned they offered up Kazmir. Andy Marte got traded. He's not untouchable
-
QUOTE(NCsoxfan @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:02 PM) Chavez over Blaylock seems to be the type of player that Williams would target. So then Beane would have 7 starters, 2 of which he needs to flip (zito and Garland) and then he'd lack a number one bat in the lineup? I don't buy it
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 05:55 PM) I would look at Upton. His potential is up there big time and at the very least, you could flip him. Well the great thing about Upton is that he has the athletic ability to play Short, third, Center, you name it. He'd instantly be our new Centerfielder and he'd be a future superstar

Fantasy Football question?
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Random's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Heading into the Chiefs game the Broncos had the number one rush defense in football. Even Tomlinson struggled to get yardage against them. Should I start Chris Brown over Willis in my flex position? Leaning that way right now -
Darrell Russell dead at age 29
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Kyyle23's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
All world talent, unfortunately quite troubled. Sad end to a sad story -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) Nice to see you back BTW. Maybe the Borchard comparisons will prove to be unfair because Fields is still so early in his development but its hard to ignore the striking similarities. Well not that hard seeing that the Sox drafted him.....
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) True. I mean Garland would net you something really good from the Angels. I just think Wood is their guy. No disagreement there. Wood is in that class with Delmon Young and pretty much no one else. Here's a legitimate question, and mind you it loses some steam as the Rays won't be able to sign Garland to an extension, but how about BJ Upton for Garland. They are yo-yo-ing Upton around as they have concerns with his erratic D. Just a thought. Another possible match is with Scott Kazmir. This is more realistic. Kazmir was offered for Alfonso Soriano (who is in the identical boat as Garland in terms of contract and resignability). It wouldn't really solve the glut of starting pitchers but would give us a guy we can control for a long time

QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 05:42 PM) id love a 6 man rotation, but wont happen. I actually think that changing the 5 man rotation in baseball is a good idea, but I think the wrong way. You'd have to carry 12-13 pitchers to have 6 starters
