  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 24, 2008 -> 06:31 AM) If the White Sox lose, according to Soxtalk there are only limited options for who to blame: 1. Juan Uribe 2. Greg Walker 3. The umpires 4. Jim Thome How is it that Swisher gets a pass? The only thing he can do offensively is walk. He's not a very good defender. If the Cubs had traded for him instead of the White Sox, every other post in the Cub thread would be laughing at what would be considered an obvious ex-juicer. I have no proof, but 35 homers in 06 to 22 homers in 07 to 4 closing in on 1/3 of a season in 08 makes one wonder doesn't it? I still don't understand why he is batting 7th when his biggest offensive weapon is the walk. Unless the walk is advancing a runner, getting on for 2 weaker hitters seems like a waste when you don't run. Its also hysterical to see all the Thome bashing by many of the same people who were so impressed with Josh Fields in 2007. Thome has been bad, yet he's on pace to hit 32 homers, about the same pace Fields was last year when he was going to be a star according to some. He's on pace for 179 strikeouts, a worthless bum he's been called. Fields was on a 200 strikeout pace, but that didn't matter because a strikeout is supposedly no different from any other out. Thome's average is weaker by about 40 points, but his OPB is better about 50 points, and this is when Thome is struggling. He'll start hitting soon. Field was a rookie, big difference.
  2. He comes in my car wash. I had know idea what he looked like but knew his name. I was pulling his car around and he had a ton of Cub stuff in his car. I made a joke like " I almost got sick driving your car around with all that Cub stuff in it" He laughed and said, do you know who I am. We got a great laugh out of it and he showed me a pic of his kid with Ozzie and his kid was wearing a Cub shirt. He said he loves Oz, and he gave it to his kid for the shirt. He also said it funny that he comes to my wash because of all the Sox stuff I have in my wash. Jay Marriotti also come in, I want to put a Sox magnet on car and take a pic.
  3. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ May 21, 2008 -> 07:02 AM) Cowley raises a familiar name. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...T-sox21.article Who could we even trade to get him though?
  4. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ May 19, 2008 -> 12:36 PM) Freddy had an incredible 2006 (innings eater, ERA below league average, good WHIP) in 2006 considering his loss of velocity and the fact that his arm was apparently beat to s***. IIRC, he added a pitch at the end that resulted in a great September. Too bad his arm just couldn't take any more. Good ol' sweaty Freddy!!!
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 16, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) Swisher has not been hitting well of late, but that isn't a strike. He's been getting pretty unlucky with calls too. Remember when he would at least get a walk here and there.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2008 -> 10:35 PM) I haven't seen many bad things posted about Linebrink at all since the season started. The only bad things I remember was about his contract.
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 16, 2008 -> 09:31 PM) Hawk and DJ have barely said anything about the actual game in progress for the last 30 minutes or so. Isn't it great.
  8. I thought Friday Night lights got canned. Directv has a spot that says that they have the new season exclusively.
  9. Stroh's beer. I remember Harry saying Sox fan, Strohs man.
  10. QUOTE(The Beast @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 12:26 PM) I love the club level footlong Polish dogs, those are outstanding. Although, where the fundamentals deck and club level meets, those people are a bunch of deuche bags, they won't let you exit through there, I almost walked out and just was like, "Screw you" because it just does not make sense as to why one cannot exit out there since it is convenient too. Anyway, off on a tangent, it was just something that pissed me off at the ballpark last year. We pay extra to keep rif raf like you out.
  11. QUOTE(greg775 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 06:59 PM) Hi folks, I'm in. Will our draft allow the computer to pick for us? I probably won't be able to do the draft, but usually Yahoo makes picks for you as well. Lets get it on!!
  12. SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP)—Rangers starter Brandon McCarthy likely will start the season on the disabled list because of inflammation in his forearm. While an initial MRI showed no ligament damage, McCarthy is expected to be sidelined 4-6 weeks because of the problem that has bothered him throughout spring training and cut short his only appearance. The 6-foot-7 right-hander apparently won’t need surgery. Rookie right-hander Luis Mendoza could replace McCarthy in the rotation. Mendoza, who was 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in three September starts and three relief appearances for the Rangers, as to start Thursday’s spring training game against Colorado. Another option could be 31-year-old right-hander Sidney Ponson, who agreed to a minor league contract Sunday and was in camp for the first time Monday. Ponson last pitched in the major leagues May 12 for Minnesota before being released. Since winning a combined 17 games for Baltimore and San Francisco in 2003, Ponson is 24-36 with a 5.86 ERA. McCarthy threw only one inning after Jason Jennings in Friday’s game against Milwaukee. McCarthy finished his inning, though he felt more pain in the muscle near his elbow after throwing a curveball. “We thought he was healthy and all of a sudden, he felt it again,” manager Ron Washington said. Texas had already scratched McCarthy from two spring training starts. “This is definitely something that is kind of depressing,” McCarthy said. “I felt like I put in the work to come in healthy and only have to worry about pitching, and not have to worry about how everything felt. To be going through this again is definitely tough.” McCarthy had two stints on the disabled list in his first season last year for Texas. He was on the DL for three weeks in June because of a blister on his finger, and nearly a month later in the season because of a stress fracture in his shoulder blade. McCarthy was 5-10 with a 4.87 ERA in 23 games last season. He came to the Rangers in the December 2006 trade that sent first-round pick John Danks to the Chicago White Sox.
  13. What about Konerko? If the Mets wanted to do something truly extravagant, they could make a run at White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko, who remains quietly available, according to a major-league source. The problem is, the Mets owe Delgado $20 million — $16 million this season, plus a $4 million buyout — and Konerko is guaranteed $12 million in each of the next three seasons. Even for a New York team, that's a little much. Unlikely as a trade of Konerko might be, such a move would be especially appealing to the White Sox if they could acquire a quality starting pitcher in return. Right-hander Jose Contreras is back to throwing 93 to 94 mph, but the White Sox still plan to use two inexperienced starters, lefty John Danks and righty Gavin Floyd. Konerko, because of his service time, will gain full no-trade protection early in the season. The White Sox could move center fielder Nick Swisher or left fielder/third baseman Josh Fields to first and keep Joe Crede at third in his final year before becoming a free agent. Of course, the market for first basemen is thin at this time of year — and even thinner for those with $12 million salaries. Frankly, the Yankees might need Konerko even more than the Mets, and they could even include center fielder Melky Cabrera in the trade. But if the White Sox were going to take back a high-salary pitcher, they surely would want better than Kei Igawa or — ahem — Carl Pavano.
