St. Louis Cardinals vs. Boston Red Sox
Leonard Zelig replied to knightni's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 27, 2013 -> 11:26 AM) Appreciate you knowledgeable opinion here, IK. Is there anything the runner could have done, other than to somehow get out of the baseline in time, to avoid that call? I guess there's just no way around the call unless you don't put yourself in the baseline there. Is it not true that the defender has a right to play a ball in the baseline? If so, he just can't remain there after he's made the play on the ball? Well, we know what AJ would have done. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 04:54 PM) No, he put his pitchers at risk and gave the opposition greater opportunities to score because they'd seen the guys more often, and overall he was lucky that they didn't score more. You do not understand a lot of very basic concepts. Is that true of every manager who lets a pitcher throw a complete game, or just Ozzie?

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Boston Red Sox

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 05:59 PM) Career splits has it. If the finalists are Frank and Ortiz, as a Dh, Buck isn't lying. Thanks. Frank had more ABs at 1B than I had realized. -
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Boston Red Sox

Did anybody else hear Joe Buck call Ortiz the best DH of all time last night? I was at work and I may have heard it wrong. Can this be true? I know Frank had at lot of ABs as a 1B but I think Ortiz did too. I can't figure out how to isolate players' at bats by position on Baseball Reference. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 03:53 PM) In game 2, Mark Buehrle threw 99 pitches in 9 innings. He was going back out for a 10th if necessary. He was incredibly efficient. In game 3, Garland threw 118 pitches in 9 innings. That's perfectly within reason, especially when he was pitching so well. In game 4, Garcia threw 116 pitches in 9 innings. Again, same story as Garland. In game 5, Contreras threw 114 pitches in 9 innings. When the guys are pitching as well as they are, it's not ridiculous to just keep them out there. It IS ridiculous to suggest that it's ground breaking to let them pitch that deep. The Sox had as many complete games in that series as all post season teams combined in 2011, 2012, and 2013.

Could be some kind of critter up in there.

Wacha has pitched as many innings in the major league post season as he threw in AA and below combined.

Is this guy strictly a 1B?

You are all wrong. The World's Best Fans honors go to Chicago Bears fans, as documented by Richard Dent in the anthem, "Super Bowl Shuffle".

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 03:10 PM) Paul O'Neill set a career high for stolen bases when he was 38. It was also his first and only 20/20 season Was that the year he caught the fly ball in his cap? -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 03:42 PM) You know what I mean. It's all you hear from Cards fans. It's always about how great a fanbase they are and how they're always the underdog. No, I don't. I live in St. Louis and I hear it from sports talk radio hosts, but I have heard, "The Cardinals have the best fanbase" or some equivalent come out of very few people's mouths.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 09:22 AM) Being in Missouri...every single f***ing one. Go Dodgers. You talked to every single Cardinals fan? You must have been part of the Applebee's survey team.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 07:21 PM) I live in St. Louis and I will say a lot of people say this. Where do you live?
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 09:41 AM) I hope the Dodgers sweep them. Cardinals fans are insufferable. Any fanbase that describes itself as the best fans in a sport is just awful. How many Cardinal fans have you actually heard say that?

Don't be surprised when early birds show up the night before trying to get first dibs.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 04:58 PM) This moralistic and loyalistic act that they continue to portray is absolutely horses*** to the highest degree. I didn't mind that team but they are not the police and that group of s*** ass players has no right to disrespect one of the greatest players in Braves history. At least the Braves let him into the stadium.

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) From a marketing perspective, it doesn't hurt. Hometown boy comes home to play. f*** that. If Granderson is the right player for the team on the field, then great, sign him up. But I'm sure the Sox pay a lot of money to people in a marketing department and Rick Hahn isn't of of them. -

Should MLB teams really consider where a player grew up when putting together their rosters? -
Amazon Never used it, but it has good reviews.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 01:23 PM) If people can't stand watching Adam Dunn hit, why would they enjoy watching Mark Trumbo? I would guess that Dunn would be better accepted if he was only getting paid 4% of his salary, which is what Trumbo makes.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Oct 3, 2013 -> 08:02 PM) Cardinals play the Pirates and Dodgers in the same day? No, he's just a few days early, that's all.

Cardinals vs Pirates series thread

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2013 -> 04:08 PM) The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Go Cards. Wouldn't both teams fit that? -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) Because he walked 4.5 batters an inning at AA and, despite a good strikeout rate, still had a 3.9 ERA. Really, if you can't get AA hitters out with pure stuff (low 90s fastball, curveball, changeup), or you can't locate it well enough to do so, you are going to struggle in the majors. not quite
