  1. Red Sox have the AL All-Star starting 1B. I don't think they're looking to downgrade at that position.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 02:04 PM) With the exception of Halladay, Floyd is better than any other pitcher on the market. Floyd still hasn't shown me that he can pitch over defensive mistakes (of which there are plenty on this team). I'd feel much more comfortable with a more proven commodity down the stretch. That said, I really don't know who is on the market. I guess that's for Kenny to find out.
  3. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 12:56 PM) My question is, say we get a SP without giving up Floyd/Danks/Javy/Buehrle, what do we do with Count? Banish him to the bullpen? He hasn't had THAT bad of a season. Just curious as to what you guys think. The worst/most inconsistent pitcher goes to the pen and becomes the long reliever. It seems like pitchers are dropping like flies of late, so the more arms the merrier. KW knows the status of the team's health and he's going to do everything in his power to field a team capable of winning it all this year. I don't doubt that for one second.
  4. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 10:36 AM) If we move Floyd, it better for an ace. And the only one that comes to mind who is on the market is Holiday. Whats his contract status? I assume you meant Roy Halladay. $10 million in 2008, $14.25 million in 2009 and $15.75 million in 2010.
  5. Injuries are never timely, but this really could not have come at a worse time with the Twins only 0.5 games out and playing great ball. Hopefully it's not too serious, but pitchers and elbow tendinitis are a bad mix.
  6. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 11:08 AM) After seeing what the Phils gave up for Blanton. I am convinced the Sox will not be able to get Duchshererer (sp?). The A's wanted a at least a couple MLB-ready or ready in a year prime prospects for Blanton and Justin is better. The sox have one maybe two of those, which will probably not be enough to get a guy with a SUB 2.00 ERA IN THE AL. Beane would need to be blown away. Keith Law did not seem impressed at all with what the Phils gave up for Blanton. He sees an average 2B, a situational LHP, and a guy who swings and misses a ton.
  7. Ever since Joe Morgan said our bullpen was the best ever, it's been very shaky. Thanks Joe.
  8. Good piece of hitting by Boggs. This team can flat out mash.
  9. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 08:12 PM) OK Hawk, I'll passs on having Dye try to hit the pitcher. You're right. It would hurt more if Thome did it.
  10. Does their sound guy think that the Fox NFL Sunday jingle = the web gem jingle?
  11. I just love what a little bit of speed does for this team.
  12. QUOTE (tommy @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 07:50 PM) Great throw Toby. Looked like he was trying to put Dotel on the DL.
  13. Jimmy is good for the HR that just about puts the game out of reach. I love those.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 07:11 PM) I love Danks. Congrats again KW. Ditto about Alexei. He seems like quite the find.
  15. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 07:05 PM) Chase Utley who happens to be 1000X the player that Michael Young is signed an extension 2 months apart from Young in '07. Utley will earn $15M a year for his first 4 possible free agency eligible seasons. Michael Young got $16M. The Rangers overpaid by about $35M. I agree 100% there. Chase Utley is one of the best players in the game. I'm just trying to say Michael Young is a good player. That's all. I don't care what he gets paid, that's between him, his agent and the team.
  16. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 06:58 PM) So Paul Konerko has better numbers, makes less, accomplished a lot more in his career yet doesn't get a shred of the hype that Young gets. See where we're coming from? I don't know about all of that. Do you really think he's accomplished more and gets a lot more hype? Young isn't looked at as a power guy like Paulie is, yet he hits .300 and knocks in 90-100 runs each year...and he plays short stop. If Gordon Beckham can be a Michael Young kind of player, I think we'd be pretty lucky as Sox fans.
  17. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 07:43 PM) So a .300 batting average gets you $16M now a days? Because that's all Michael Young is going to do for you. That career .281/.324/.409/.733 line away from Arlington isn't very reassuring either. I'm just trying to say that Young is a pretty darn good hitter. He was taking some heat from some posters on here. It looks like that's what $16mil gets you these days. Take a look at what Paulie's splits are away from the Cell. Sure he's $4mil cheaper but he's not very good on the road either: .266 .338 .449 .787.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 07:37 PM) I don't hate him...I'd take him on the Sox (but for 10 mil, not 16) I wish it worked like that too, but it doesn't. If you want to keep/get a good player, you have to overpay (eg Torii Hunter).
  19. You guys are something else with your hatred for Michael Young. The guy has hit over .300 six years in a row. Every home town scorer looks out for his team and makes some favorable calls every now and then. Sure that should have been an error but the breaks go both ways in a 162 game season.
  20. It sucks when you should be out of an inning but instead have to face Josh Hamilton with RISP.
  21. As of July 11, the White Sox are #1 in ESPN's Power Rankings. Check it out
  22. Every player is entitled to a bad series, but this has been going on long enough. He hasn't all of a sudden become a bad baseball player, so he must be hurt. He needs to be DLed or IRed until he's the guy we're paying him to be because he's costing the team wins. With the current roster, we're more than capable of winning the division without him.
  23. The players currently hitting worse than Paulie are pitchers and Juan Uribe. I too have had enough of the 3.5 month slump. Paul in the line up means Swisher is playing out of position, therefore the team is much weaker up the middle, slower, and weaker at the dish. At what point do you stop caring about who makes how much money, instead of putting the players who are best suited to help the team win on the field? Clearly the guy is still hurt or no longer any good.
