  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) The Marlins wouldn't even consider that deal Why not? Would you need to replace Sweeney with DLS? I think that's a pretty nice return for Cabrera.
  2. I bet Josh Fields could hold his own in a fight. The guy played Division 1 football. It ain't intramurals brother.
  3. Marriotti complains when KW and JR don't overspend for a guy like Hunter, but in 3 years when you realize just how bad the contract is, and it handcuffs the team from making other significant moves, he'd be the first one to say it was a bad signing. I think he's a talented writer, but more often than not, he's writing something that will get your blood boiling in order to sell papers and be controversial. It's his job to be a conversation piece so I don't put a whole lot of stock into what he writes...plus it's no secret that he dislikes the White Sox and will bash them every chance he gets.
  4. QUOTE(thomsonmi @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 01:59 AM) We suck. You're right. I forget these things. The Angels and Dodgers have a lot more to offer than the Sox at this point.
  5. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 09:55 PM) Carlos Lee didn't lead to us getting Link. We traded Marte for Mackowiak, who we then traded for Link. What we have to show for Lee is some of Vazquez (Vizcaino)... You're right. Thanks for straightening that out. Vazquez make it a lot more tolerable.
  6. So years later, we have Single A pitcher, Jon Link in to show for the Carlos Lee deal. It's a good thing '05 cut KW so much slack in my book, otherwise I'd really be upset about this.
  7. QUOTE(kane0730 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 09:02 AM) Wow. What a terrible contract for Texas. Torii's good, but wow, he's not that good. That's an awful contract.
  8. QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 06:40 PM) Hey guys...f*** Linebrink. Did anyone actually watch him in Milwaukee last year? He was terrible. "But look what he did in San Diego!" Stop it. Just stop. You or I could have a good ERA at Petco. I wouldn't want Linebrink for anything less than free, let alone draft picks and a big contract. I'd rather take a flyer on a guy like Jeremy Affeldt or give Nick Masset a shot at Middle Relief. I don't buy that because good pitchers will get outs no matter where they pitch. How many of Linebrink's outs were 399ft fly outs to the gap? Now, I didn't follow the Padres all that closely, but I'm willing to say his success wasn't exclusively due to pitching half his games at Petco. I don't even care for Linebrink all that much, I'm just saying a good pitcher will get outs, and you have to look past his home park because in the end, it's a pretty minor detail. I wouldn't mind taking a chance on the Japanese set-up man we've been linked to: Yasuhiko Yabuta. Yabuta Heck, even Shingo was effective for a while.
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) If the Sox brought in Hunter and Linebrink the Twins would get our 2nd and the Brewers would get our 3rd. That doesn't sound like a very good plan for restocking the system. Kalapse, I normally agree with about 99.99% of everything you write, but what about the way the White Sox have drafted would make you want a second or third round draft choice over a proven bullpen arm? Our bullpen was awful last year, and for the most part, our early round draft choices haven't exactly been "can't miss" prospects. If you can help the team now by signing a pitcher at the expense of a 2nd or 3rd rounder, I say do it.
  10. This morning on Mike & Mike, Steve Phillips gave his two cents on the FA and trade markets. He thinks the Sox are the favorites to sign Hunter and believes they are also a going to acquire Cabrera (at the expense of Jon Garland). I wouldn't put much stock in what Phillips has to say, but it makes sense and he's not the first to offer this opinion. I'd be really happy with these two additions, but the two most glaring needs on this team would remain unaddressed: bullpen and a high OBP leadoff hitter. BTW, team speed would still be pretty awful.
  11. A writer from the Sporting News predicted Colon would end up with the Sox. I suppose I wouldn't mind a one year deal because we have some question marks at the bottom of the rotation right now, and it's looking like Garland won't be around.
  12. QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 02:18 PM) Farmer is a very solid color guy. The Sox need a better play-by-play guy; Bernie Mac is not it. I'd like to raid another team's radio affiliate PBP guy like the Cards did to us. Someone who can be impartial yet exciting. I'm pretty sure Rooney was informed by the White Sox that he wasn't coming back for '06. For some reason, they didn't want him back; STL didn't take him from the White Sox. That said, it doesn't get a whole lot better than sitting back and listening to Rooney and Farmer over the summer. Too bad those days are behind us. I would love to have Steve Stone call some games for the Sox. The guy is a class act all the way, and I don't think there are many people who could challenge his knowledge of the game either. The guy knows his stuff.
  13. The draft is extremely important, but so is the offseason. My group of season ticket holders became a whole heck of a lot less interested in re-upping for next season once the Sox fell out of contention as we witnessed humilitaing defeat after humiliating defeat. A lot of the money being generated at the park now is from season ticket holders who climbed aboard in '05 - and a lot will be leaving this offseason unless some big name FAs make their way to the South Side. If the Sox get snubbed by the big FAs and/or put their trust in young talent, then I think we should expect to see a lot of empty seats next year. That being said, I expect Kenny to be very aggressive this winter. Don't think that Kenny hates losing any less than we do. I truely believe we'll see at least five (maybe seven) new faces by April.
  14. I was under the impression Fokudome was a RF. Can he play CF?
  15. QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 12:58 PM) Hunter went up the line to run Burke over. Barrett was blocking the plate when AJ collided with him. http://www.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=cws http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.j...sp&c_id=chc It was a bang-bang play, so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. Torii Hunter is not a dirty player. It's not like he goes out and does this kind of stuff on a regular basis. He would be a nice upgrade to our current outfield.
  16. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 08:03 AM) Never confuse drive with just being a violent asshole for no reason. The fact is Hunter doesn't give a s*** about winning. Thats why in the 1st round of the playoffs he always becomes one of the worst CF's in baseball defensively over night. I admit it was funny watching him be lazy in CF last year for the Twins but to have his lazy ass dogging it for us would piss me OFF!! I hated seeing Torii knock out Jamie Burke as much as the next guy, but I wouldn't go as far as saying he's a "violent asshole". Hunter has been playing for about a decade, and he's been a clean player his entire career (this play included). What's the difference between the Hunter & Burke play, and the A.J.P. & Michael Barrett play? Not much.
  17. QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) there's no mention of it anywhere... Hell, there's even no mention of it on Whitesox.com. At least Rotoworld was aware of Bobby's accomplishment: "Bobby Jenks tied a major league record on Sunday by retiring the 41st consecutive batter he faced. Jenks pitched a scoreless ninth with the White Sox down 6-0. When he retired Yuniesky Betancourt to complete the inning, it tied him with the Giants' Jim Barr for the most consecutive batters retired. The streak, dating back to July 17, has lowered Jenks' ERA almost a full run."
  18. Although he has been hitting better as of late, the reason Jerry Owens is on this team because of his speed and base stealing ability. If he can't steal a base in that situation (and I believe 100% that he can) then he has no value on this team. He needs to be given the opportunity to swipe a bag there.
  19. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 10:01 PM) what the f***. +1 Is this a serious thread?
  20. QUOTE(Shamrock4Life @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 12:23 PM) so if we do this 6 man rotation and all the starters have less innings pitched, do we finally make up for the world series run of '05. i mean if more innings = sucks then less innings should = good, if not great. There is no 6-man rotation. Gavin Floyd has taken over for Contreras, and Jose is now in the bullpen. Outside of Contreras, I think the rotation looks every bit as good as it did in '05. Garland has struggled lately, but Buehrle and Vazquez seem to be throwing the ball better now than in any point in their careers.
  21. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 03:35 PM) 125 innings isn't enough, so I'm sure 175 won't be enough either. I think Floyd has to be in the rotation until at least 2010 putting up these lousy numbers before you considered removing him. Do you think maybe his numbers are skewed because he was called up prematurely while he was in Philly? Is it possible he needed another year or so in AAA?
  22. QUOTE(iamshack @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 02:21 PM) It's pretty similar to the crap you are arguing right now, which was the entire purpose of his post. Thank you.
  23. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 02:05 PM) 8 homers in 14 innings. A star is born.............. Garland went 1.1IP and gave up 8ER on 9 hits today. I guess he sucks too huh?
  24. QUOTE(iamshack @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 01:51 PM) What's the damn difference between an ERA over 6 and an ERA over 7? No, don't you get it? Because his ERA was over 7, he can never, ever turn into a major league pitcher and we need to cut him right now. The cutoff is apparently set at an ERA of 6. Give me a break...
  25. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 12:56 PM) 100+ innings of sucking at MLB-level baseball? But because Haeger and Sisqo haven't yet pitched 100 innings at the major league level they can still be groomed into great pitchers. Gotcha. Now you make sense.
