QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 28, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) where is everyone staying in Milwaukee??? If I go, it will just be for the game. Milwaukee is just a 2 hour drive anyway.

I have an alternative to B-Mac coming up. Hermanson comes in as the emergency 5th starter for 6 weeks (his versatility is part of the reason we signed him, is it not?) Now Kevin Walker can take the vacant spot in the pen bc he's been tearing it up in ST. I think calling up B-Mac is our best move, but but for all of those who dont think he's ready just yet the Hermanson Walker thing might be a nice alternative.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 10:23 AM) I sure do. Sosa seemed nervous and gave short, one-word answers, from what I saw. Not only this, but he went back to not knowing English that well (he seems to do this when it's convenient for him). Sammy is a lying, fake, out for himself prick and there really he can do to change my opinion of him.

Anyone else think he's full of s*** despite being under oath???

Billy Koch Released by Jays
BaseballNick replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Billy is a stand up guy, and I wish him the best. I wish there was a place on the team for him because it seemed like he gelled with the guys despite poor outing after poor outing. -
QUOTE(UofIChiSox @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 06:54 PM) He'll never pitch in the majors if he can't learn to zip up his fly. B-Mac leaves his balls on the field.

Two positive things about todays loss

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) Without saying too much, I can guarantee you that Deron is going pro. Not a chance in hell he comes back. I believe this is true, however, he's not ready. He's MAYBE the third best player on the team. Dee and Luther are definitley more NBA ready, and I personally think he'll be a below average NBA player. He's not a pure point, and he's not a shooting guard either. He can knock down a shot, but a good defender will have a field day with him. -
29-1 going into the Big Ten Tourney

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) Thru age 26 Orlando Cabrera -- .258/.309 Willie Harris -- .240/.305 I would think that you were erecting a shrine to WH in you basement by now. Orlando Cabrera has less talent than Willie. He's a very below average hitter wih a good glove and average speed. Willie has a very good glove, is a below average hitter and has great speed. Cabrera = OVERHYPED :headshake

QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 09:56 AM) I guess Hermanson and Vizcaino don't qualify as "real bullpen help"?! This Moon guy is for AA and AAA depth [and for guys with upside who could help the Sox in 2006 or 2007], which the sox need. This guy could have a lot of upside, throwing 95 mph after 4 yrs off shows he's got a gun My guess is people aren't bidding on him because he won't help the major league teams this yr, because he hasn't played in so long. I for one don't care where a pitcher or player comes from. If they have talent, it'll show itself. I agree 100%. This guy may not be a stopper this year but it sounds like he has some tools. Let him get some seasoning in AA and AAA, he'll also be able to see what it's like throwing for a full major league season. If he doesn't pan out then we eat a few bucks. Potential Reward > Risk It's just like KW to find some guy no one else had heard of, get him on the cheap (although it hasn't happened yet) and play wait and see if he's the real deal. It's kind of exciting, and if it works, I'm all for it.

I hate Torii Hunter (mostly because he's a Twin, and that he damn near killed JB) but he's 100% correct with his statements. I admire the way he plays the game, and I think we need more hard-nosed guys like him in the league. C Lee had that chance to retaliate, but folded. Maybe that's part of the reason why "he gone." Pods, Rowand, Dye, Crede, Uribe, A.J., Gload, Timo, Everett (and apparently El Duque since ST): these guys are not afraid of a little contact. These gus aren't going to stand for getting pushed around or run over; these are the guys who do the running over. I love the make up of this team, and in a way I can't wait to see the first incident of the year and how the boys will come together and have each other's backs. Hey Torii :finger

I don't know why, but I predict Ozuna being the kind of player Timo is. A talented guy with good tools, not an everyday player, but no slouch either. It'll be interesting to see who gets that final spot.

Let's not rush B-Mac up here right away. Let the boy get some meat on his bones and some experience under his belt before he turns into the next Jon Rauch. This kid can be the real deal; let's allow him come into his own in Birmingham and Chrarlotte for a couple of years and then when we need him, he'll be ready.

I played high school baseball in the Catholic League against Honel and faced him in 2001. At that time he was throwing 95 and had the most disgusting, unhittable knucklecurve I had ever seen. He struck out 8 of the first 9 he saw, but then we somewhat knew what we were up against and adjusted our approaches. The point is Kris has/had some REALLY NASTY STUFF. I thought for sure Kris would make it to the show someday. I was really happy that he was selected by the Sox because I thought from what I saw in my 3 at-bats that this kid had some dominating stuff. A sad part of this story is that Kris' character sucks. I personally do not know him, but I've heard some stories about him from after he signed the deal with the Sox, and they'll just make you shake your head and say "what a prick!" He also didn't show up for the Catholic League All-Star game which was a priviledge to everyone else there, but I suppose Kris had some more important things going on. Since high school, he's lost some of his velocity. I believe he's topping out at 91MPH, but obviously had the injury last year. I really hope that Kris can rebound and earn a call from Kenny asking him to join the fellas on the South Side whether he's a prick or not. The fact is that Kris is very talented and in 2001 was definitely worthy of the number 16 overall pick. As a side note, my school countered with Cesar Carrillo who is now the ace at The University of Miami. We lost 5-2, but Cesar will be another to keep an eye on. Another side note: I finished the game going 1-2, with a K, HBP and a single

How many games are you going to this year?
BaseballNick replied to BridgeportHeather's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I have the weekend season ticket plan and figure to make it out there between 20-30 times. Plus, I've already purchased tix for a Min game, LA Dodgers game, NY Yanks game and the extra Flubs game. + Playoffs -
I'm hopefull, but not entirely confident. We have depth, so if Shingo struggles we have 4 other options in Damaso, Cliff, Viz, and Dustin. Kudos to Kenny for being prepared just incase.

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 95 wins, but most importantly: Playoffs!!! -
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 05:47 AM) You just spent these two paragraphs trying to convince me that speed is great. I totally agree with that. Speed is a wonderful, intimidating weapon. Speed kills. But, the stolen base, in and of itself, is overrated. You are entitled to your opinion but I know for a fact KW and Ozzie share my opinion on SBs. If that weren't the case, KW wouldn't be turning our Sox into the Marlins of 2 years ago. I personally think they are invaluable; however, speed and SBs commonly aren't valued as much as they once were. Hopefully, we will go out and show everyone just how valuable speed and SBs can still be.
-
Stolen bases OVERRATED??? How can you think this? Speed is an extremely intimidating asset for a player to possess. If you don't think so then why is something like this possible? http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/...layer_id=334393 (the video from 7/20/04). Guys like Ichiro, Pierre, and Pods force infielders to rush their throws which result in errors. Pitchers have stolen bases in the back of their minds when these guys are on the basepaths. I said it before and I'll say it again: speed is a tremendous asset for a player to possess.

QUOTE(kwill @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 06:22 PM) i dont konw about you guys but for some reason i am still hoping for kenny to pull off one more trade just to take the headlines away from the sosa deal. I believe that the sox dominated the headlines in chicago this offseason, and i would like to see kenny make a trade just to keep the momentum going in our favor. It doesnt sound to logical but i was wondering if anyone else felt this way. I think we still have major pawns to play either now or at the deadline. I think we should keep willie for now and see how crede plays in the first half. IF he doesnt produce we could ship him out at the deadline, iguchi to ss, and put willie back in. I believe the sox could get alot for crede in return. Anyone have these thoughts or am i the only who thinks this way?? By the way who here wants to just kick the s*** out of all the critics who are nto giving kenny credit for remaking the club. He has done a terrific job this offseason but no one gives him props. Absolutely NO. Why make a move for the sake of making a move? That's ridiculous. The only way KW would deal is if he 100% believes we are a better team after the deal is complete, not just to steal headlines. That's why we have Brooks Boyer.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 08:11 PM) The problem is it leaves us with NO LONG MAN! Not to mention Marte being the only lefty. Like I said no thanks. Plus too much mystery surrounding his poor mom. Hermanson can probably be that guy...maybe Cotts or Adkins too.

QUOTE(LDF @ Jan 23, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) did you see where borass, by all estimates made something like 20 mil this offseason on his fa's. That's just disgusting. :puke
-
Don't underestimate the importance of a deep, solid bullpen. I would absolutely love Castillo, but I'd hate to see Marte go. Damaso is a huge part of this pen, especially since Cotts is the only other LHP (that is unless you consider Kevin Walker part of the team). I know you have to give something to get something, but I don't know that this is a wise investment.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 07:14 PM) I agree with qwerty that ARow has to lower his # of errors. Many times last year he caused the Sox a run because of a bobble or a mishandle or something. He tries to do the "Pro Hop" where he scoops it up, leans back, and then guns the ball home. Come on man, crow hop, not pro hop. :banghead
