  1. I predict at the end of the year, there will be a game played for the championship. The game will be called "Super Bowl" and all males will partake in the ultimate binge drinking, nacho cheese dipping party. I then predict, the day after, we'll all start the countdown for the following years party.

  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 07:36 PM) 2007, .852 OPS, 122 OPS+ 2008, .798 OPS, 111 OPS+ 2009, yeah, he's been awful, especially with us. But even in 2008 he was an above-average performer with the bat. 2007 he was a deserving all star. by OPS+ 2007 was the best season of his career. Okay, 2 years. 111+OPS is nothing to write home about. The biggest problems I see with him are that his head doesn't move with the ball, only the eyes, which can be okay if you're able to look directly down at the ball with your eyes when it's at the plate, which he can't because he's so tall. That causes a ton of huge swing and misses. His bat speed is okay and his stance, though kinda goofy for a guy that tall, is actually a smart one since it allows him to level his shoulders moreso with the plane of the ball, creates a smaller strike zone, and allows him to see the ball better coming out of the pitchers hand(eye level). If you notice, Dye does the same thing, except not as extreme. He bends his front foot inwards and his back leg inward as well. Rios though, more so sits kind of like Aaron Rowand. Both have the same idea though.
  4. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 05:25 PM) He is lost out there, but I think that's more of him trying to hard. Next year, after he doesn't have to earn playing time and Ozzie tells him to just relax and play, he should, I repeat...should, get back to being a very good player. Plus, he's a huge upgrade in defense, which is always a good thing for this team. He played for the Blue Jays. There has not been a much better team out there where you could relax and play than them as they are a winning team, but play in a division where they are not expected to do anything. He could relax and not worry about pressing for his team to make the playoffs because he's never been in a pennant race. Regardless, he's not been very good the past 3 years.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 12:42 PM) It defeats the purpose of the draft if any player can just back out, IMO. I understand that foreign players would like to play for the Lakers, Celts, Bulls, but it sucks when the draft is there to help the bad teams get better and a player just steps out because he can. I know it is within his rights, but it still sucks. Agreed. I think you should only be able to declare once and if you declare, just like in college, you can't back out.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 12:47 PM) Why are teams firing there OCoords so early? It seems weird and puzzling. I guess the people hired will be running the same system but its odd. I don't get it either. Unless they're going from run n shoop to a Mike Martz offense, it doesn't make sense.
  7. It's very simple. Rios was good, but now sucks. Wise always sucked. BA sucked, but was much more of a viable option as he provides as good of defense as Rios, sucks as much with the bat, and costs pennies compared to Rios, but again, he sucks. All in all, Rios was not an answer, shows that, day in and out, and now we're paying him as much as PK.
  8. QUOTE (earthshiner @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 10:39 PM) one has a history of being good the other has a history of being pretty poor. One hasn't been good for a few years already. The other has never had a full year as a starter. Regardless, for the amount being paid to Rios, give me BA as the #9 hitter, hell give me period, anyday over Rios.
  9. I'm with Frankensteiner and I said it awhile ago. There's a reason why TOR was willing to dump him so easily. His contract for the play he gives you is the big reason why. He's no better than Brian Anderson.
  10. QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) Because Detroit and Minny have more talent. Fields was a very iffy prospect at best on 4/1; Center field figured to be a disaster, and it was; Quentin had a poor ST as I recall. As for 2010, all three positions should be much better. I look for Beckham to be a 'leader' next year. No, just no. Detroit got rid of some talent, had a declining Maggs back, had to put Porcello in the rotation and had more question marks than we did. Minny definitely does not have more talent, they just play to their strengths really well. Fields was not an iffy prospect. His rookie year he hit around 25 home runs without playing the whole year. No one considered him an iffy at best prospect. More like a potential Adam Dunn at 3B, which didn't work out. And are you telling me, Quentin having a bad spring training is good enough for you to not count on him? Wow. This guy was the MVP last year until he injured his own self.
  11. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 08:41 AM) I'm hearin from people he listed us to be nice, and I've heard its between Duke and ISU. Don't know what to think, cause I'm hearing it from people both close to the program and close to Harrison. People close to the program: ISU People close to H Barnes: Duke
  12. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 06:46 PM) Look at it this way... Chicago gets massive debt fixing/updating things that are way overdue, then makes back 3/4ths of it hosting the Olympics and has a substantial but smaller debt left over. or Chicago gets a substantial smaller debt due to day to day repair, doesn't fix a lot of things as much as they need to be fixed and never hosts a major event again. Either way, they'll be some debt incurred; but, in the Olympics scenario, stuff will actually be built/replaced as opposed to just "maintained." Well said. This is the only way things will get done in this city that needs to be done. Regardless, we're going to continue getting tax hikes, but this will allow, correction, force us to actually do something with that tax money.
  13. I'm not against it, I fkn want it. People need to realize how much of a hold Daley does have on the city. He is heavily involved in this process as well and he probably did underestimate the cost. It doesn't stop me from wanting the Olympics
  14. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 01:42 PM) THe problem i have is that NOTHING Daley ever does comes in at or under budget. So, a $4+ billion Olympic games will easily be $6-9 billion the way he and his cronies run things. So, in the end, the city of Chicago and of course Cook County will be left with a massive tax burden. True. Very true. Won't deny that.
  15. Apparently Kahn, Joventut and Rubio had an agreement in place on Saturday and Rubio went back on that and Joventut reluctantly and pissed off, let him go to Baracelona. It seems to me Rubio doesn't want to play for the Wolves.
  16. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) Looks like the wildcat trend is spreading, and I could only imagine Ray Lewis licks his chops everytime he sees a QB or WR in a place they're not supposed to be. If people run it a lot against the Ravens I'm predicting one or two highlight reel destructions by Ray Ray As do I. I think the Wildcat will die out rather quickly once guys like Ray Lewis or LaRon Landry injure their star QB spreading out wide.
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 12:12 PM) Please Please Please Please Please give it to Rio, as far away from Chicago as possible Give me the economic boost. Ask Atlanta what the Olympics did for them. Only thing I hate is the excessive salaries the committee is getting paid. That's garbage to me.
  18. QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 12:36 PM) I usually like to listen to Phillips, but he is not an expert on the White Sox. I am certain there are several readers here who know more about the Sox than he does. So, he really didn't say anything profound in his article. His article took up space, that's all. He admitted he picked the sSox to win the division, so that disqualifies him as any kind of guru. In terms of personnel in April, how can you have picked the Sox with what they had at third, left, and center? This was a bad team from the get-go. There was no reason to pick them to win anything. Kenny has a lot of work to do, but at least he patched a couple of holes. Well Fields was a hot prospect up until this year. CF was a problem, but that was supposed to be the #9 hitter. LF was supposed to be Quentin. On paper, the White Sox had the most talent. It's very easy to see why he predicted the Sox would win. Why wouldn't he?
  19. Wow you guys way underrate Tim Hightower. He will get a lot of TD's this year. My only concern with him is if Beanie ever gets fully healthy this year, he will be starting probably around Week 12. Other than that, he will be a nice RB.
  20. Agreed about Lawler. They need to turn him into a bad guy announcer again. Perfect example of how he was rooting for Owen Hart against Brett back in '94. Spinner belt sucked big time. What happened on this past week's Raw? I missed it for work.
  21. QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) I think financially this is a great idea assuming Flowers can be capable next year. I think that's what his September tryout will be about. A better look of whether or not he can be a starter in 2010. The Sox would get a player at league minimum with big potential and give AJ extra rest from playing catcher. The only position that would need to be filled/resigned would be another OF. Rios and Quentin would go out there. If the Sox have money to spend it's probably Dye. If not, Pods. Both wouldn't be out of the question. Why would Dunn play over Paulie at 1st? Because of PK's Thome-Like hip condition.
  22. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 05:34 PM) I love this idea. I want to see Johnny Danks hit Justin Morneau in the face with a 94mph fastball. Then I want the benches to empty with the Twins players kicking the majority of the Sox players' asses. Beckham, Rios, Floyd, Danks, Buehrle, and Thornton can stay out of it. And DJ Carrasco and Peavy too, if he's there. I'd say keep AJ out of the fray but he's our biggest weapon. The rest of them can fight to the death. And give Flowers some more steroids so he can go on a rampage, breaking his bat into shards and then stabbing Carlos Gomez with it about 47 times. And get Jim Ross to replace Hawk. Stoney and his teenage wife can head on back to Taco Bell for all I care. I hate this team. Oh Dear God. What a heinous act?! Definitely not for the weak at heart. Ken Harrelson, I hope you turn away from your television if you ever witness this.
  23. Quite simply, we sucked with him, so why not suck without him and give him a chance at a ring? Heck, one of the selling points to Jim when he was with the Phillies was that KW promised him he would be given every chance to compete for a ring. This year, the Sox have no chance and KW sees such with Jim's window closing. So we traded him to a legit contender.
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 08:50 PM) Why wasn't this done in late July? Or a week ago for that matter? It's too late for this now, should have sold what parts we do have when we had the chance. Because we were in a race and it's bad business to give up in July when you're like 2 games back.
