  1. Hmm, this is a claim where I can't see I like or hate yet. Not at least until the end of the year at earliest. Dye or Thome or both are probably pissed.
  2. AJ's been having a really good season. I'd certainly welcome him back. I don't think Flowers will be ready next season. I also don't think he'll end up being a catcher.
  3. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) Ken Rosenthal's take "Yet, the teams that like Rios — and the White Sox have had a longstanding interest in him — are enamored with his 30-home run, 30-stolen base potential and ability to play center field." 30 SB's, 30 HR potential? where have you been!!! "The Jays cannot look at this opportunity in the traditional sense. They will be criticized in some quarters if they receive a minimal or no return for Rios, but who cares? This would be a "trade" with a different kind of gain" Like I said, Riccardi cannot botch this oppurtunity. But he will.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 04:49 PM) Why would the Tigers want to go after Rios when they're already on the hook for the salaries (this season) of Sheffield, Nate Robertson, Dontrelle D-Train Willis, Ordonez (he will definitely not qualify for his option year), Bonderman, Carlos Guillen, etc.??? They are going to have to spend a pretty penny to keep Edwin Jackson around next season, that's for sure. He will undoubtedly get a huge boost in salary, and Inge and Granderson are starting to make some bank as well. With Clete Thomas (actually his stats aren't incredibly different from Beckham's, overall, but he is a corner outfielder, not an infielder) and Ryan Raburn (and they already traded away Joyce and brought in Josh Anderson as well), there's not really a compelling need to break the bank on Rios, although the money (for 2010) could theoretically be shifted from Magglio to Alex Rios. I do think, however, that Dombrowski has to be very careful with his spending this offseason...you gotta give DET fans credit, coming off a terribly disappointing 2008 season, they've supported their "average" team to the tune of 31000+ fans per game this season. All this despite the economic calamity poster-child syndrome that is DET, CLE and PITT. Heck, look specifically at those last two teams being completely blown apart...as well as the Jays and potentially Padres to a lesser extent. Josh Anderson is no longer with them. He's with the Royals.
  5. QUOTE (rangercal @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 12:46 PM) If it were Derrick Rose, this thread would be 3 pages deeper and the word "thug" would have been tossed around more than several times. So if this story is accurate, Patrick Kane is a THUG. Rose can't be considered a thug because he usually is the one getting beat up and following orders from others, such as getting beat up from that Memphis football player and taking orders from Reggie. Kane is a thug. He beat up a cab over 20 cents and took all of his money back. I'm surprised though because I wouldn't expect it from Kane.
  6. I don't see it. Either we don't get him or Rios doesn't waive his NTC. Think about it. You think Ozzie is going to bench Pods for him? How about Quentin or Dye. I say fat chance.
  7. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 10:05 AM) I found this, so I dunno which one is right; I thought about what you said, but then today on Around the Horn they were discussing it and they said he knew what it was right away that triggered the positive test because he was warned by the league before.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 05:56 PM) Someone had a link to the Red Sox and Mets saying that they did NOT make a claim, earlier in this thread. Oh I understand, but I've heard that they actually did. Something about Bay being out. I didn't even know he was out as I don't follow them that closely.
  9. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 02:25 PM) Weird blurb I saw on Rivals/an NU blog: Northwestern supposedly has/had visits from 6 of Rivals top-40 basketball recruits from the 2011 class. Considering I think the only one they've signed since I started following the team over ten years ago is the Michael Thompson transfer, I thought that was pretty interesting/strange. And I don't remember Michael even doing anything whatsoever.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) It doesn't matter how many teams claimed. Only the team who is at the top of the priority list can negotiate with the Jays. If they don't reach a deal, Rios can't go anywhere (assuming the Jays do pull Rios off of waivers) Bingo. From what I've heard, the Red Sox for sure put a claim out on him.
  11. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 10:48 PM) Rashard didn't know what he was taking was banned on the NBA Drugs Policy FWIW, but he should have definitely known better than that. It's a blow because we'll have to start 2 out of Pietrus / Bass / Barnes now, or Ryan Anderson could even start at the 4 from the start of the season. According to hoopedia, per the CBA, you only get suspended if caught twice.
  12. Finally. 10 games is a joke and I love Rashard as a player. The testing in the NBA is a joke and so is the penalty. Apparently, this has to be the second time he tested positive. Told some of you guys(not many here though), that steroids do benefit more than NFL and MLB players. Until they test for HGH though, LeBron probably won't be caught.
  13. I'd honestly keep Pods around if the other option is Chone Figgins. For the price, Pods allows you to upgrade OF drastically like a Carl Crawford while moving Dye to DH. You also could probably sign another big time pitcher or spend money on some frontline bullpen arms if you believe there is a such thing.
  14. Bulls have a hell of a schedule to get through this year. I would've said that even if we had Ben Gordon still on the squad and even a Bosh or Amare. Gee, talk about a rough schedule. Bulls have 23 back to backs this year. Thanks to some RealGMers, here's an extensive look at how difficult it would be: 1. Not an easy start or easy finish. Four of the first five to start are against playoff teams. Last five are either against top teams at home or road games. 2. As Duck said Bulls from 1/14 to 2/9, Bulls play 11 road games and only three home games. 3. Bulls have FOUR sets of four games/five nights/four cities. Those are brutal. 4. Bulls have two 6+ road game trips and only one 6+ home stand. On that home stand, they have Boston, LA and Atlanta. No favors with any stretch of winnable home games. Damn it's going to be tough this year.
  15. Yeah, honestly, it's smarter if they hung on to him. I think they will end up paying him good since he will be the new face of the franchise and Ichiro will probably be retired and Bedard would be gone and they probably wouldn't have too many big contracts. Seattle spends like a mid-market team, so they'll pick him to pay unless they get blown away. Their GM is doing pretty good things there suprisingly IMHO.
  16. Yeah, the place is more expensive than the United Center.
  17. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 01:09 PM) Not to mention that Reinsdorf is one of many board members who own minority stakes in the Sox, and that there's no way that he can unilaterally reallocate Sox assets to the Bulls. The argument there was that JR is willing to go above and beyond and be convinced about a Peavy while with the Bulls, he works with a hard cap and such. And in baseball, you lose in revenue sharing if you spend more than a certain amount. Basically, it was about Reinsdorf caring more about the White Sox and himself creating a hole on a team that he admitted that he doesn't care about as much, "I'd trade in my 6 championship rings for 1 world series".
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 06:07 PM) I noticed no one is complaining Thornton threw Ransom all fastballs. I'll take that any day from a guy who actually throws as hard as advertised.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) That's hardly a fair argument. San Diego hasn't been competitive since 1998. I know that he won a CY Young and an ERA title and he's only 27. How often do the Sox get those kind of pitchers? Starting today, once every day.
  20. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) Wouldn't it be great if he started that make up game at Wrigley after all that hype about them getting him? Only if he throws a perfect game against them. That is the standard that has been set.
  21. Marquez and Nunez hopefully pan out, at least as bullpen guys, it'll be a win for us.
