QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) You're also the biggest Ben Gordon fan on the planet, so it's taken with a grain of salt. However, I agree with you for the most part. I'm a much bigger Bulls fan and I just am so strong in keeping Ben because of what he's contributed, because he doesn't have a weak mind, and because he has an excellent work ethic. I like your plan and that's what I want. Salmons at full-time SF, re-sign BG, and sign a backup SF. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) The reason he has that rep I think is he'll have stretches where he shoots the ball at an incredible rate. Now, he also has stretches where he doesn't shoot much at all which explains that stat, but I can see where people get the false notion he shoots the ball a ton. That is probably true. +1 on analysis.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 03:38 PM) The numbers agree, but you and everyone else knows damn well he forces up a lot of stupid shots in 4th quarters. With that said, I think we really need to re-sign Gordon. Hopefully he doesn't ask for more than he's worth, which is likely though. I really have no faith left in Deng, and watching Rose//Gordon/Salmons together of late has really swayed my opinion. Re-sign Gordon, let Salmons take over at SF full time, and try to deal Deng/picks or Deng/Noah for a legit big man. What wingman in the league doesn't hoist up questionable shots in each game? Kobe hoists up a ton of them, including against 3 or sometimes even 4 a couple of feet from the 3 point line. If you make them, no one says anything which Ben has a knack for hitting a ton of them which is why he was going to be asked for the game of Horse or Geico, but they wanted the young stars of the league. Ben is one of the most efficient scorers in the league. If he takes a 3 with 3 guys in his face like he did in that Miami game earlier this year, and is hitting them, then go ahead. I've seen Ben hit alot more than he misses.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) Esp. since he's a celtics fan, I think I'm going to highlight this blurb from Bill Simmons. Last time I checked which was about a month ago, Ben Gordon had the second least FGA for anyone in the top 20 in scoring behind Dwight Howard, so I don't get this notion that Ben Gordon is a ballhog or has to hoist up shots with no abandon when in reality, he actually doesn't do so.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) But he didn't give them that opportunity until Pax traded away all of the pieces of his precious small lineup, such that he basically had no choice any more. It took Gooden getting hurt and traded, Nocioni getting traded, and Deng getting hurt to finally make it so that his rotation had to include Thomas and Noah. Otherwise, I think we'd still be seeing the Gooden at C, Nocioni/Deng at PF, Hinrich, Gordon, and Rose lineups for 25 minutes a game. That's pretty untrue. In fact, he started Tyrus with Gooden at C and played him and Noah significant minutes early on. Then he benched them after Noah admitted he was out of shape and Tyrus wasn't playing smart. He then gave them a chance to redeem themselves, even after Gooden came back for a little bit. The one thing he did do was play Nocioni alot, but that has way more to do with Deng sucking balls, more than Nocioni and us not having any other SF's.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 12:28 AM) For those who wanted VDN run out of town after, I don't know, 20 games or so. What's your opinion of him now? What coach, and please don't say Mike D'Antoni, could've done more with this team than VDN has? And don't give me the ",Well, I just don't think VDN can lead us to a championship" or "I think we just need a more experienced head coach," fluff. When you consider what a disaster last season was, how imbalanced the roster was/is, the injuries, ect - what's your opinion of the job he's done for THIS season? I'll say this, if Thibo was hired and did the same job VDN has done this season, he would get praised endlessly. The stuff he would've done wrong, people would've forgave him and said he just needs experience. With VDN, since he never coached before, there are people who still will not want him on the team until he wins a championship. Look at all the good he has done. Look at what he has done as a whole. He has faults, but he's done an excellent job all year.

White Sox (1-1) vs. Royals (1-1) 1:05-CSN
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) Probably because the scouting report on Soria says his curveball is his dominant pitch. His fastball isn't so much ahead of his curve that you can't adjust the other way...or so at least that's the thinking. Yes, but it is much easier to look fastball and adjust to any other pitch coming then it is to expect breaking ball and then adjust to a fastball. I think even Stone said it the other day in which you always want to look fastball for that reason. Only way you change that approach IMO is when the guy has a 100mph like Bobby used to and a hammer of a curve.

Betemit sitting on curveball. Why aren't our hitters sitting on the fastball, and then adjusting?
-
White Sox (1-1) vs. Royals (1-1) 1:05-CSN
Alexei still can't hit or recognize a curve. If that's the case, I don't know why he isn't waiting for the fastball. That's all I would do. Gordon with the error which saves Alexei's ass.

QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) He clearly had no control of the ball whether it was on the exchange or not. He was trying to grab at something that was not there. I would understand if the ball was firmly in the glove and he dropped it, the ball was bobbling around in the mitt erratically. That's on the rule book.

I don't know if that was so horrific. He dropped the ball on the exchange after watching it twice.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) You're not exactly selling him very hard there, are you? I'm not saying he's terrible, but his impact is that of when Luol Deng was even having decent games. Somehow at the end of the game, he ends up with his stats, but no one knows how he exactly got them outside a few games.

Manager's nightmare team
I'm surprised Sox fans didn't mention Rolls Royce Clayton with all the hate they have for him.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 10:11 PM) He is a shade under his averages in about every category, otherwise I have no idea what you are talking about. Ask Grizzlies fans. You got to watch him play and you realize that he's had a year where his impact on the game is Luol Deng like.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 04:20 PM) Mayo is a slightly taller Ben Gordon. I'm calling it right now. He can't do anything but chuck up shots. He makes a lot of them, but he's a one dimensional player. SMH. Mayo is pretty damn good defensively already. He has all-defensive potential. He also is a great play-maker. Thing is, he has a poor squad with and Rudy isnt anywhere as good as last year.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 05:55 PM) Got back from the game. Awesome. For those who didn't get to really watch it, some things the box score didn't tell you... --Wise's strike outs weren't just strike outs - they were absolutely pathetic at bats. --Wise's bunt attempts were just plain stupid - the 3B was at the pitcher's level, and Wise was STILL trying to push, instead of dragging down the empty first base line. --The play Fields made at third to peg at home was outstanding --Chris Getz can play a very good 2B, it would seem, and he NEVER slowed down on that single-he-hustled-into-a-double. --WTF is up with the baserunning? Three horrible running decisions made on the basepaths. Not just being aggresive, but being outright stupid. They weren't even close plays. --Jenks had good velocity - 95-96 on the park gun - even though its just Opening Day. --Buehrle was not himself - not just in the results, but his motion and demeanor didn't look right. --F-18's are loud. --Gate 5 looks decent but incomplete. --The new out of town scoreboard needs some work, and had errors and bad data pretty regularly. FUN GAME THOUGH!!! Glad you enjoyed it. Did Buehrle look hurt or just plain out of it?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) and on Getz, given it has only been one game, but I still don't think it's unreasonable (and perhaps it's very reasonable) that someone will have to move, either to a new position or organization, because Getz is that good. And the players I'm speaking of specifically are Beckham and Alexei. I agree. He's a glue guy that you need in your lineup or else you have a bunch of guys who can't run the bases and who can't start off a rally. Maybe move Beckham to 1B. Maybe they plan on Alexei in CF. There's a ton of possibilities. Maybe Beckham does so great we deal him for an awesome package that we can't refuse. Either way, I hope Getz sticks around.

QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) you went to a movie on Sox opening day??? for shame Agreed. BTW, favorite play of the game was Getz using his baseball IQ and seeing that his weak single made it out of the infield and stretched a single into a double. Even with Podsednik in '05, I don't think he would ever do that. I really think Getz and Mike Fontenot could be brothers seperated at birth. They're pretty good defensively, don't do anything great, but know how to use their head to make sure they don't do anything bad. Sometimes that's all you need.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:52 PM) DeWayne Wise needs to not be on this roster. That's the most alarming thing. Stone took a shot too. 3K's and 4 total outs, did not reach base. That's unacceptable from your leadoff hitter. Even from a 9 hitter, you have to contribute something. Even make Meche waste some pitches. Even if he stood there and kept the bat on his shoulder and didn't swing the home game, he would've done us a service.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) still trying to figure out why they didn't bring in Mahay to face Thome...but I'll take it. Mahay, Cruz, or even Soria with the game in the balance there. Also, as Ozzie is talking about it here, why did Cox send Jermaine after we scored our first run? The man was out as soon as Cox waived his hand.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) When have you ever seen Crede bunt for a hit like Fields did? Also, while Crede is obviously the superior defensive 3B, I dont think he makes the play to get the out at home like Fields was able too. Defensively, I disagree. I could see old Crede making that throw. Offensively, you are correct. Crede would not attempt the bunt like that.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) 800 career games played for Joe and not a single bunt hit. If third basemen are going to play Josh back like Gordon did today, it's nice to know that Josh is willing and capable of dropping down a bunt and beating it out with that good speed of his. I was happy about the bunt. I'll agree with you there. I don't think Crede would have attempted that.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) Crede doesn't make that play Fields did coming home in I believe it was the third inning? That was all athleticism right there. I saw that play and I think a healthy Crede could make that play. Now if you're talking about wheelchair wonderboy that is Joe Crede, then probably not.
