  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 07:26 AM) Threads like this kill me. All this talk about "quitting" and "giving up" is hilarious. Many of the same people slamming the team for quitting are the same people who have been throwing players and this team under the bus for years now, yet are pissed off that the team "quit". Hell how hard is it to be a fan? You know you have to do impossibly hard things like encourage the team through rough times, and cheer when they do well, yet still couldn't handle a team that underachieved. Hell half of the sissies here quit going to games and watching games because the Sox weren't 60 games over .500 or something, and have the nerve to call the players quitters? OMG, the irony could be served up as a part of a seven course meal as delicious as that is. In another language I guess you could call it hypocracy. But hey, you all are pissed off the team quit right? Yeah, I mean they had to quit, right? Its not like a dozen of these guys are playing through injuries that would could have easily put them on the DL right? Because if they had given up, and had an easy excuse out, they totally would have taken it right? How many guys are on the DL for the Sox right now? Jeff Nelson is the ONLY guy on the DL right now for the Sox. Umm yeah, really sounds like these guys have quit to me. Here is your injured player list again since no one cared to acknowledge it yesterday Jenks-hip Buehrle-back Konerko-back MacDougal-shoulder Bmac-shoulder Contreras-back Dye-back/hammy Thome-hammy-wrist Pods-hammy Politte-rotator cuff Hermanson-back Once again, ALL of these guys are playing through this stuff. Not a one of them is on the DL, when it would be the easy way out. Don't give me this bullspiff about quitting, especially when all I hear is about how people aren't going to games or watching games anymore. Nice double standard. And finally as I have said a million times before, many of you all totally miss the point about sports in general. It isn't supposed to be about who can get the maddest when their team loses, or the happiest when their team wins. Sports is supposed to be a release from you daily life. Its entertainment. No matter how much you love it, or hate it, its not supposed to be a life or death thing, its supposed to bring you a sense of relaxation. If it is making you mad enough where you have to go onto a message board and flip out about something you have no control over, you are probably taking this way too seriously. Relax, and get some perspective on life. In reality, if the Chicago White Sox don't win a game the rest of the year, what have you REALLY lost? Does Justin Morneau get to come kill your dog if the Twins win the division? Does Magglio get a night with your mom if the Tigers win? No? Well then why let what happens on the field affect the rest of your life, and turn you into a raving lunatic? I'll never understand that. In reality, if a game is pissing you off that badly, you need to turn it off and find a new hobby. Watching baseball is supposed to be fun, not an exercize in self-torture. Step away and get some perspective on life. I'm sorry, but can I get an injury report or is that just an assumption about all those guys? Newsflash, Konerko's been playing with that back for awhile now. It's nothing new. I didn't hear Buehrle having a back problem, maybe he does, but I haven't seen a blurb about it. MacDougal, I'll give you him. McCarthy, again I didn't see a blurb about him playing injured. Contreras is more than likely injured. Dye had a back/hammy injury earlier in the year, but I don't think his hammy is affecting him at all. Thome's hammy injury was earlier in the year too and went away. Maybe his wrist is still off, but not his hammy. Didn't see a blurb about Podsednik. I say it's more of his groin injury from last year than him having a hammy problem. Politte isn't even on the team, therefore shouldn't be discussed. That's like me bringing up Widger. I'll give you Hermy as an injury excuse.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) Buehrle guarantees you 15 wins, 220 innings, and an 3 good months. It'd be assinine not to pick up his option Buehrle isn't going to win 15 games this year. So much for that guarentee.
  3. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) Funny that you mentioned an overrated coach for a team that won one championship when they should've had a few more. I agree with that assessment. He was terribly overrated as a coach.
  4. We boo because we care. If we were bandwagoners or unloyal fans, we wouldn't even show up or watch the game at all. I can accept losing and failing. I cannot accept not playing your ass off which this team tried to get away with this year.

QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 05:26 PM) '[Cardinals starter Mark] Mulder wouldn't even make my team,'' Guillen said. ''He couldn't start for us, and he's not better than [Neal] Cotts or [Matt] Thornton in our bullpen." If the Blizzard of Oz said that, he must be on rocks. Only reason Mulder wasn't better than them was because of the injury.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 05:24 PM) I was thinking the Sox could possibly be interested in Mark Mulder on an incentive laden deal for 2007. He won't be ready until perhaps May or June as he's coming off rotator cuff surgery. I don't think he's going to command a huge deal and if the medical reports on him look decent, I think he's a possibility. As far as Zito goes, he's going to be the biggest FA pitcher out there and will get in the 5/75 range if you ask me. I agree on the Mulder thing, but apparently, he's a bad idea because he's going to miss a whole month of the season next year...well that's according to some Soxtalk posters.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) Because you can get some of the top guys in all of MLB at other positions...and save yourself like $8 million a year in the process, by trading him...if the right deal comes along. Not really. If you're getting a top guy back at another position, you just open up another hole, you lessen your defense at a very important position, and if that guy is good enough to warrant Crede in the trade, he's probably going to cost at least $8 million a year as well. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) That is a serious hypothetical situation. I think that every one takes Crede's defense for granted because it has been there for so long. The guy saves 1 or 2 hits almost every game. Crawford would make our lineup ridiculous not only for his speed, but his defense, arm, and OBP. However, would you say Crawford is one of the top players in his position (OF) in the game? I dont know if you could put him in that category. You could put Crede in that category, which makes him a little more valuable IMO. Also, I still thin kFields needs to be eased into the majors, he is not ready to just be placed into a starting role, especially at the hot corner. Exactly. Crawford is really nice offensively, but he's not going to save as many runs or hits on defense as Crede would. Again, it's also easier to find an OF than a great 3B. Not a good 3B, a great one.

The thing that pisses me off about Buehrle that he admitted that there was a bit of a hangover from last year and some guys weren't as into it as last year. Personally, I'd see if I could get Zito before I decide to use the option on Buehrle if that's possible. Actually, I'd love to see two lefties in this rotation though.
  9. Well that was one good thing on one crappy night.
  10. If only we got the basehit before the HR.
  11. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) You're right RBI's are an insignificant stat for a power hitter. RBI's say more about the players ahead of you getting on base and in scoring position than you as a hitter. OPS% and OPS+ are the best ways to judge a hitter IMO. You don't have to agree with it, I personally don't care. As long as a guy is getting on base, he's doing his job.
  12. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 07:29 PM) When is hte last time he's gotten a big hit? Check his stats with runners in scoring position with 2 outs. I bet it's not even close to fantastic. As long as his Slugging % and OB% are great, he's doing his job.
  13. I predict a weak popout or a typical groundout.
  14. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 07:24 PM) Hit a homerun Jim. It'd be nice for you to make an appearance...We haven't seen you since July. Yeah, because he hasn't had over a 1.000 OPS since then, right?
  15. I hope someone is jawing at Ozzie right now for his piss poor strategic moves.
  16. I love Frank, but I'm going to agree with witesoxfan. Thome > Thomas for us this year.
  17. Honestly, if Uribe isn't here next year which I think is 50-50, I think you'll see Alex Gonzalez playing SS. I'd be happy too because I've been a fan of his and Luis Castillo for a long time. Apparently, so is Ozzie.
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) Walt Hrniak was brought in last year to see if he could get through to Uribe. He used a leg kick mechanism, and it kept Uribe back instead of lunging at the ball. It worked through September and the playoffs. Then Greg decided that he should ditch the leg kick, and go to a spread stance like Pablo uses. Because he thought the leg kick didnt do a thing. Now Uribe is hitting .230ish. Can we get Walt back to give Uribe another lesson in the leg kick, and tell Greg to help someone else. Yeah, wasn't it Frank who brought in Walt to help Uribe out?
  19. I'm going to agree with Mariotti on this one. You don't talk about no-no's or perfect games. Fans should know or find out by themselves like I had to. He should've ripped ESPN too for cutting to the game.
  20. QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 05:00 PM) www.espn.com SON OF A b****.
  21. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 05:00 PM) There goes the perfect game and no hitter. We should have the win Wait what?
  22. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 04:56 PM) Freddy Garcia=Trash f***ing figures. Lemme guess, we scored 3 runs in the first, he gave up 4. We scored 4 more in the 5th and he gave up 5 the next inning. WAT A PIECE O CHIT!!! Where's Charlie Haeger when you need him?
  23. I just got home. I didn't know the game started already. Someone wanna give me a recap and score?
  24. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) Im still thinking about opening a Sonic in chicago, there is already built in marketing. Build It, And I Will Come!
  25. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 05:14 PM) Sorry but that was all on Ozzie... you know BMAC struggles with runners on bases... so why in the hell do you put him out there with the bases loaded... he's just not cut out to be a reliever... he needs to get into the rotation RIGHT NOW! Take someone else like Garcia and try him in the pen... Um, no. McCarthy has sucked out of the pen. Outside of a 5IP effort, he's sucked all year. He's easily the most overhyped, overrated guy in anything related to "White Sox".
