  1. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 12:40 AM) Soft tossers without location are meat in the majors. Buerhle has had good control, up until about a month ago. Garcias control hasnt been pinpoint his entire career. The fact that he has no velocity means that unless the team is super aggressive, they just wait it out and he will give them the cookie they deserve. Too bad we didnt draft a guy like Garza or Carillo. We keep drafting soft tossers who can barely break a plain of glass. Hopefully this experience with soft tossing freddy and Buerhle without control, will start to get the draft in the right direction. PREACH
  2. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 10:27 PM) If Garcia would get tossed for plunking someone in the first, it'd be bullspiff. Padilla hit AJ on two consecutive pitches in two consecutive AB's after having perfect control for the majority of the night, but he didn't get ejected. By that logic alone, even if its intentional, Garcia shouldn't be tossed if he were to do that. Then again, this won't happen. Garcia won't hit anyone unless its later on in the game, so whatever. If that's the case, hopefully Garcia drills whoever in the 1st. That would mean McCarthy.
  3. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 09:22 PM) This team is flat. What do you do when a team is flat? Either trash their bullpen and get momentum, or bench a guy, or put on endless steals/hit and runs, or make a trade. Or make the wierdest lineup possible. Have PK bat leadoff, Uribe and Anderson hitting 3 and 4, and have Thome as the number 9 hitter.
  4. Garland Translated Stats: IP H ER HR BB HBP SO ERA W L SV H/9 HR/9 BB/9 SO/9 227.3 253 118 29 47 3 120 4.67 14 10 0 10.0 1.1 1.9 4.8 Dontrelle: 265.0 297 118 25 75 21 148 4.01 14 13 0 10.1 .8 2.5 5.0 Close, but Dontrelle is still better. Argument really isn't about Garland either, so I don't know why he got thrown in there. I was talking about Buehrle. But sure, let's steer clear of criticizing Buehrle and talking about trading him. He sure is the franchise right guys?
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) So you want to trade a pitcher who you think sucks for another pitcher who is currently sucking and only going to get worse that's cool. Take a look at Willis' year by year stats, his K/9, K/BB, WHIP, ERA, BABIP anything you want, his future is going to be full of Hideo Nomo comparisons and I don't want any part of that. You want Willis and don't want Buehrle that's your whole thing. I really could care less. Okay, Buehrle is the greatest player ever. He's looking great out there. He's dealing wins like no other(for the other team, but nevermind that). I don't know why you keep saying Nomo. Nomo never threw as hard as Willis does. Nomo never had as great as pitches as Willis does.
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 08:40 PM) I didn't even look at the stats mainly because I don't need to. Dontrelle is headed down a bad road and his stats are fine evidence of it. I have no use for him but whatever. I just showed his translated stats compared to Buehrle's. If anything, Buehrle's headed down the bad road considering he's not a strikeout pitcher, and he couldn't hit the ocean if he was living on a boat near the coast of Hawaii.
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) National League, in a pitchers park. Yeah that's great, you can compare numbers as of right now all you want, it's fairly evident that Willis is going down the Nomo path right now. If you want to trade Buehlre for Willis more power to ya, it can be your new kick. Translated stats takes into account ballpark effects IIRC and leagues.
  8. There are some players who have had worse issues than Alaeze. Only real problem with him in Maryland was that he was hanging out with his posse that Maryland didn't like at all. He is a smart kid though in terms of academics from what his grades looked like and he'll be far away from Baltimore.
  9. Please do something.
  10. I thought we were saying Spiff and Fish for fun. I know I was. I had no idea we actually had a swear filter on.
  11. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 08:24 PM) Have you checked his stats/watched him pitch at all this year? He has a near 4 ERA, 1.42 WHIP 86K/44BB (horrible) and .282 BAA. WTF is good about that? He's doing all that in a giant pitchers park. He is not good. I'm pretty sure you could guess who's who. BTW, the better one is 24
  12. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 08:20 PM) Buehrle, if you think you're going to earn a 4 year, 48-56 million dollar contract you can forget about it. I'm SICK of watching this. Soft-tossing pitchers without control can't exist. And to think, we're drafting people who draw comparisons to him! That's crazy. Our minor leagues needs to begin producing legitimate talent, because I'd rather take chances with an emerging talent than paying him a ridiculous contract. PREACH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 08:19 PM) Dontrelle Willis is not a good starting pitcher. Yes, yes he is. And unlike Buehrle, even when he's hitting not hitting locations, he could actually still get outs. Buehrle's just providing more evidence on why Strikeout pitchers > Location Pitchers.
  14. TRADE BUEHRLE! "Over-Rated!, *clap clap clap clap clap*"
  15. FISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. But you guys still wouldn't trade Buehrle for a Willis or anyone else for that matter, correct?
  17. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 05:51 PM) Don't worry, I'm almost positive Ninetrain was being relatively sarcastic. I do think he was trying to make a point about how bad Widger is and that getting a backup catcher could actually be the kind of shakeup this team needs. A backup should be out there, but I think Kenny wants to make sure he is able to get a good character and clubhouse guy first (and I don't think we'd have to give up anything of major value...heck Arnie Munoz should be able to get you some sort of catcher). In general I'd give up guys like Munoz, phillips (maybe not for a backup catcher) who you will probably lose at the end of the season via the Rule V draft or via minor league free agency. Honestly, like you said, a guy like Munoz or Phillips would be perfect candidates to go for a backup catcher.
  18. Buehrle got a haircut?
  19. QUOTE(soxpride77 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 05:41 PM) You're insane At least when Ozzie puts in his spiffty lineup, Damian Miller is hitting and catching. Something Widger can't do.
  20. Hopefully it was Buehrle and Garcia for Dontrelle.
  21. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 12:35 PM) Am I the only one who is so used to the default blue that another skin throws you out of whack? Nope, me too.
  22. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 12:24 PM) that is some seriously crazy spiff if it's true. alaeze was a five-star player and the sixth-ranked defensive tackle in the nation in 2005. getting a stud like this at the team's biggest position of need is impressive. way to go zook. defensive tackle rankings-2005 That's what I said. I looked up some info on him. He ran a 40 in 4.5 seconds.
  23. Apparently Zook got another great player. Melvin Alaeze is that player. http://mb30.scout.com/fillinoisinsiderfrm3...cID=13562.topic Also, apparently, his name is now in the U of I directory.
  24. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 10:06 PM) ...and how do you know that? They are trying to contend and Miller was a big signing for them because he a hometown guy. He crushes LHP as well. Trade Fields for him. Now! *awaits flaming*
  25. QUOTE(soxpride77 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 09:12 PM) I don't think the Brewers would get rid of Miller. He calls a great game (remember the glory days of Wood and Prior pitching well?), and he is one of the Brewers clubhouse leaders. They would for a middle of the road prospect or cash considerations.
