  1. http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view...417&format=text It's Mota & Marte to Cleveland for Crisp and Alex Gonzalez is expected to sign soon.
  2. Really close. There's an online book on Jerry Reinsdorf and Eddie Einhorn and I read like the first 4 chapters and they were talking about it.
  3. "If you're good, you usually last until about 36" And then you wonder why I respond to your posts. If you said stuff that was on point, you'd never hear from me. 4. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) The Marvin Harrison comparison is pretty good, but you have to remember who he is working with and the offense he is in. Still his best years were 27-30. Jimmy Smith is a good example too, but he is still not the player he used to be. Jerry Rice is the greatest receiver in the history of the NFL. He is an exception to the rule. T.O. may be as well, but don't expect his best years. Ed McCaffery compared to TO? He didn't even put up decent numbers until he was 30, so that is not a fair comparison to TO. Mushin Muhammed had his best year at 31, but didn't have a good year since 2000 and was awful this year. That may be a one year wonder. Are you comparing him to T.O.? Troy Brown? What? Did you mean Tim Brown maybe? He was already listed, so I don't think you did. Even if you did his best years were before 30, not after. He was still a decent receiver after 30 but not like he was before that age. I think success is what you have in your own mind as being successful. Would you look at what any of these players have done after thirty besides Harrison, Smith, Rice, and maybe Tim Brown has a successful season for T.O.? I wouldn't. When I think of T.O. the player I think of dominance. I don't think of T.O. as the average Joey Galloway, Ed Mccaffery, Mushin Muhammed, Troy Brown (ha ha!), or Keenan McCardell type seasons. If you are signing T.O. you are expecting much more than that, in my opinion. Ed McCaffery compared to TO? He didn't even put up decent numbers until he was 30, so that is not a fair comparison to TO. Mushin Muhammed had his best year at 31, but didn't have a good year until 2000 and was awful this year. That may be a one year wonder. Are you comparing him to T.O.? Troy Brown? What? Did you mean Tim Brown maybe? Even if you did his best years were before 30, not after. He was still a decent receiver after 30 but not like he was before that age. Keenan McCardell? He is a decent receiver, but he is not someone that I would compare T.O. with. He didn't even have a 1000 yard season this year. Not once was I comparing TO and Ed McCaffrey. I was stating guys who prove that 26-29 is not the prime years for WR's. If you're good, you usually last until about 36. Ed McCaffrey was a good WR.
  5. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) Of course not. In football terms, I'd say that you're in your prime when you're between the ages of 26 and 29. Without even looking into it (kinda like nitetrain), I'd assume that this will be his 12th or 13th year in the NFL? meet: Marvin Harrison has been looking s***ty the past 4 years, hasn't he Hammer? Ed McCaffrey too, right? Throw Troy Brown into that list as well. Mushin Muhammed did have his best year in the ages of 26 and 29, right Hammer? Jimmy Smith has been a s***ty player since the age of 29. I suggest you get off my dick Hammer, because you follow me around everywhere I post and continue to think you're right on every subject when it comes to sports. I let the last one go, but if rules aren't going to be enforced, I have no problems taking shots at the "god-like" poster than you think you are.
  6. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 04:54 AM) The OF defense of Manny, Willie and Trot Nixon would be absolutely brutal. Nice to see other AL playoff teams get worse and the white sox better Willie isn't too shabby in CF. He doesn't have a strong arm that I know of, so basically it's Johnny Damon's defense back in CF.
  7. I love the guy so I hope he belts 50 HR's 50 SB's and has 200 RBI's while the rest of the Red Sox players have career worst years. GROUP 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jan 19, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) its hard to say what that video shows since its a small section so the context can be manipulated but it certainly sounds like a different story than we all heard early this morning. Whether his wife started it or not, it really doesn't make Davis' actions any better or worse because how the hell was he going to know. In fact, maybe, just maybe, he went into the stands to stop her from hitting the fan. Just a thought It didn't make it any better or worse, but if he got suspended for his wife being a b****, you better believe she's the one sleeping on the couch if he's in the house at all during those 5 days. I'd be pissed.
  9. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 19, 2006 -> 08:26 PM) I wouldn't, in fact if I was a fan of any team I wouldn't want them to go anywhere near this cancer. Not to mentione we've got an aging WR group anyways. We should be thinking about drafting another WR. Signing Owens will take playing time away from Patrick Crayton as well. T.O. isn't that old. He's in his prime. Plus he's going to be on the best behavior just to shove it up the Eagles' asses. If he were to play in the same division, he would do anything and I mean anything to make sure they beat the snot out of the Eagles and that would mean him being on best behavior. T.O. with Keyshawn opposite of him and Terry Glenn as the #3 would be great. Plus you have Crayton as a KR and 4th wideout when you want to spread them out and that's one great receiving group.
  10. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jan 19, 2006 -> 06:27 PM) I think TO would be a god pickup for certain teams with certain coaches and particular QB's but I think Lovie Smith isn't that coach and I think TO would eat Rex Grossman alive Honestly, I think he would love Grossman(if he stays healthy), but would hate Mushin Muhammed for dropping all those goddamn balls. TO would make Orton look like god.
  11. I rather have my Cowboys pick him up. I'll give Angelo mad credit for having the balls to go after T.O.
  12. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 09:31 PM) Were they in the hunt for a national title? Or do you mean they'll never win a game again this year if he really does quit the team? Wilson Chandler is definitely a talent, but by no means the focal point of this team. I don't take anything away from his rebounding and flashes of brilliance, but he has still been prone to poor freshman mistakes and nights of horrible shot selection. He's been a solid contributor as a freshman in the starting lineup along with Currie. His future is obviously bright. Anyways, this is all pure speculation. I will not be surprised to see him back on the team, if he really has quit. As is mentioned in the link, Wes Green quit the team prior to this season but thought it through and came back. Sammy also took some time off during the season last year to take care of personal problems. It's unfortunate that this occurs, and it upsets me as a fan of the program since it reflects poorly on the players being recruited and their character, but that's how it's been with these young guys. And as for the the statement that "their goes their chances of winning anything," I have no idea what you mean. This is a team in transition with only one scholarship senior and two freshman starting, along with a brand new coach (one that I'm not a big fan of yet) in a new conference. Prior to the season the consensus amongst DePaul team was that this was a team that needed to grow, and the NIT has been what is expected. The bubble talk has come because of their strength of schedule, which is about third in the nation, and a few wins against solid teams. But the losses against teams we should be beating shows that this team is too inconsistent to be a legitimate Tournament team. Some of it has to be attributed to, as I mentioned before, having a new coach and young players getting acclimated. The rest I blame on poor coaching and preparation. For a chance to win a spot in the tournament.
  13. So this means he wants to join the White Sox, right?
  14. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) They need to adjust the formula, because obviously it doesn't work. The problem with a lot of those formulas is they take into account runs scored and runs allowed, but if a team scores 10+ runs in a couple of blowouts it can skew the formlua big time. The same thing goes for one run games, which a lot of stat-heads don't value. For team comparisons, I like RPI since it takes Strength of Schedule into account. Last year the Sox were #1 at .527, #2 Cards, Angels, Sawks at .525, and Yanks in 5th with .524. In 2004, the top 2 teams were the Sawks and Cards, so unless there is a huge upset in the playoffs, then the RPI can be carried into the playoffs with pretty good results. The 2nd Order wins don't seem to predict or show anything of any value, except they are a way to discount what the Sox did. In regards to the Twins off season, I like what the Twins manager had to say about it: I wonder how they look like.
  15. QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 10:07 AM) He might do a better job than Tillman did, which isn't saying much, but he won't do enough to stop Smith. I doubt it will matter. They double cover Smith and other receivers will be open. Delhomme knows how to handle himself and what to do in a postseason game. Surely Trufant will do a good enough job. I'm a Cowboys fan and will even admit he's better than Newman. Just in case you didn't know, Newman gave Smith fits and Smith had his worst game of the season against the Cowboys with only 1 catch for 13 yards before being ejected in the 3rd. Gameplan for Smith is simple. Rough him up, get the FS to roam towards him on every pass play and don't let him get out of his blocks clean.
  16. Bwahahahaha. There goes any chance of them winning anything.
  17. That's friggin' horrible. Metra better build that stop now.
  18. I thought Prior used that one video or whatever that many others are promoting. I'm sure a couple of you guys have seen the infomercial with him, Nolan Ryan and someone else who uses it. It's how he developed the towel warmup and something else. A doctor and someone else developed the system so kids could develop the proper mechanics. It's kind of a coincidence too that Prior's only non-injured year was when he did what he wanted pitching wise(2003).
  19. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) who care what it would have cost? I would rather have prior than BMAC any day of the week. How dare you say that about the legend. The way some people talk about McCarthy reminds me of how people talked about Reed, if not worse.
  20. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 10:50 AM) I think the problem is that he is comparing staffs, and they dont compare at all. The Cubs rotation is a myth, something that is together once in a millenium. They cant touch the Sox with a ten foot pole when it comes to Howry's magic word consistency. Our top 4 pitchers went over 200 innings last year, Has Wood pitched 200 innings in the past 3 years combined? And Buehrle, Garland, Garcia, and Contreras have been known as workhorses their entire careers. Give them the ball, they will eat up innings. The Cubs have exactly one pitcher who can do that(Zambrano) and you dont know if he WILL do that because his head isnt on straight. It isnt about Zambrano being a number 1. Thats already known. Its about their pitching staff being better than ours. And they arent. Not even close. Howry can say all he wants, but I am going to love seeing the quotes out of his mouth when August rolls around and he is in there 3X as much as he is used to because Wood never recovered, and Jerome Williams sucks, and Maddux is only a 6 inning pitcher. Howry is going to realize that his arm will get tired from Dusty's overuse, and then he will start getting his ass handed to him. And then the media will jump in, and Howry will start crying to the papers. Book it, that b**** is gonna suck this year. To be honest, I think Jerome Williams will be a suprise. He was a projected #2/3 starter in the league prior to last year.
  21. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) Here is a quick rundown of what the 2006 schedule should look like, no dates, just opponents. The NFC North plays out of Division games vs the NFC West, AFC East, and one game vs the NFC South (TB), and NFC East (NYG). HOME San Francisco 4-12 Seattle 13-3 * Buffalo 5-11 Miami 9-7 Tampa 11-5 * Detroit 5-11 Green Bay 4-12 Minnesota 9-7 AWAY Arizona 5-11 St. Louis 6-10 New England 10-6 * NY Jets 4-12 NY Giants 11-5 * Detroit 5-11 Green Bay 4-12 Minnesota 9-7 Opponents Record 114-142 4 Playoff Teams * The schedule looks pretty favorable with only 3 away games vs winning teams. They also get Seattle, Tampa, and Miami at home which should help. NE and STL (Dome) will be tough away games. Overall not bad. I can see at least 10 wins again, maybe even 12 (7 home wins, 5 road wins). I think dates and schedules are needed. Need to see who they play off their bye week. Who they play coming off weak teams and who they play coming off good teams. I'll go based pure off teams though. HOME San Francisco 4-12 - Win Seattle 13-3 * - Loss Buffalo 5-11 - Win Miami 9-7 - Loss Tampa 11-5 * - Win Detroit 5-11 - Win Green Bay 4-12 - Loss Minnesota 9-7 - Loss AWAY Arizona 5-11 - Win St. Louis 6-10 - Win New England 10-6 * - Loss NY Jets 4-12 - Win NY Giants 11-5 * - Win Detroit 5-11 - Win Green Bay 4-12 - Loss Minnesota 9-7 - Win 10-6 record which should be good enough to get in the playoffs. If Favre is back, Packers win that division. Minny is still a darkhorse though.
  22. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 11:26 AM) Who do the Seahawks have that can cover Smith? Marcus Trufant.
  23. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 11:11 AM) *ding ding ding* Winner!! This offense likes to use the TE.....if the TE doesnt' suck ass. Desmond Clark was a Pro Bowl 3rd Alternate though!
  24. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 10:59 AM) Prior would have cost Contreras and quite a few prospects. Probably would've been Count, Sweeney, and Woodson.
