Official College Football Thread
nitetrain8601 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Well I won 100 bucks off that game. Hopefully I win the 300 buck jackpot with Texas. ND proved they were overrated and OSU dominated the game. -
Jeff Blake Appreciation Thread
nitetrain8601 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The reason I heard Blake didn't start earlier this year was that he couldn't grasp the playbook. I wondered myself why he wasn't starting over Orton until I heard that. -
QUOTE(WCSox @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 10:41 AM) I'm not sure about that. Not sure why KW wouldn't want six legitimate starting pitchers, even if he has to lose one of them at the end of the season and gets nothing in return. If I were KW, I'd be more concerned about winning than the future. At the very least, I'd wait until July to make the deal. The Sox's needs for '06 will be more clear at that point. But I wouldn't be opposed to dealing Contreras if KW could get a legitimate #2 hitter who could play CF and steal 30+ bases (I'm not talking about Taveras), another left-hander in the 'pen, and a good long-reliever who could close if Jenks doesn't pan out (e.g., Chad Qualls, Brendan Donnelly, etc.). In other words, it'd take a lot to move Contreras, but he could help fill some gaps if the right players would be available. You get 2 draft picks at the end of the year and McCarthy another year under his belt and ready to move into the starter's slot while keeping the World Series pitching intact for this upcoming year to make another run. If I'm KW, I hold onto Contreras even if he doesn't sign an extension unless you can get a Tejada for him.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 01:29 AM) Just like Jose Canseco didn't need to convince anyone in 1988 that those Red Sox fans chanting "Steroids" against him were wrong, correct? I guess innocent until proven guilty doesn't apply to certain people.
-
I honestly could say I've thought of that, but the thing was, I didn't think anyone would be willing to pay for a pixel at all.
-
I think ours would look something similar to PNC. At least prerenovations it did.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) Jas, couldnt they leave him as a player to be named later if there was a timing issue, and then complete the deal officially after the term was complete. Yes they could.

USC:History in the Making...
nitetrain8601 replied to SS Gload's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 06:51 PM) Maybe it's more hope in regards to Texas, but I firmly believe what I said about LSU in 2003 and Auburn in 2004. All I know is that Miami, like USC, headed into the title game (in 2002) with a 34 game winning streak and as defending champs (albeit only 1 time because they got screwed in 2000, else they'd have also been going for 3 in a row) and they didn't get NEARLY this kind of hype. And Miami had to play WAY WAY WAY better competition during their streak than USC has played during theirs. Maybe ESPN and their hype for ratings nonsense has just gotten that much worse the last few years, or maybe they are just showing their USC woody to try and drew viewers from the huge SoCal market, who knows. I agree with that. Miami had a way tougher road. USC = overrated. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 06:38 PM) I think LSU very well may have beat them had they played in 2003. I think Auburn very well may have beat them had they played in 2004. I think Texas WILL beat them in Pasadena. USC is very overrated, and I will stand by that even if they win it all in January. This run doesn't happen if they played in a real conference. I agree with everything but Texas beating them. USC got lucky and were able to duck some opponents. It's amazing that they think they'll beat everyone in college sports. Um no. There defense isn't even top 10 in history. They would get stopped be teams inferior to the ones that are mentioned. I hope Texas beats them. Herbstreit and that other jack will luck so f'n stupid after the s*** they've been proclaiming for the past couple of weeks. -
ANOTHER football team in Chicago?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) Why the f*** is everyone raving about this Woodson character. Is there something none of us that follow the minor leagues know? Maybe this guy has some studly arm and just has been quietly talked about. I can't remember his name but when I get some time i'll look through the notes I compile during drafts and see if I wrote something about him. Yeah, the Orioles posters seem to love him.

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) Miguel Cabrera is a great player and texeira is a above great hitter and a gold glove winner i believe. Cabrera has done it since the day he set foot in a MLB park. Hell look at his rookie season and the playoffs. He was their 2nd best player as a rookie behind I-Rod. I'm not going to put Texieria in there yet. One more year and I'll say he's the league's 2nd best 1B behind Pujols of course.

I'd investigate more into that.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) http://www.orioleshangout.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28747 The Orioles Board has a big thread going off this same rumor. They think both offers are crap. Interesting to read Baltimore's opinion. They all say Tejada is a top 5 player in baseball, which I completely disagree with. I can name 10 players I would rather have. Johan Santana Albert Pujols A-Rod Vlad Ortiz Derek Lee Andruw Jones Miguel Cabrera D-Train Texeira I think you're basing that off of one year. I'd say he's top 5. Pujols Cabrera Tejada A-Rod Santana

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) Can this guy be considered a legit prospect in a year or 2? I don't think anyone even knew we had him in our system much less his stuff or what he projects to be. He's intriguing at the very least.

I'm reserving mine as soon as I get my check.

ANOTHER football team in Chicago?
nitetrain8601 replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Don't like the Bears so I would most definately root for the Chicago *insert team here*. I also always have wanted to go to an Olympic Event. Plus the 80,000 facility would be built on UIC's campus. More revenue for the city, more jobs. s***, I could care less about inconvenience. Oh wow, I'll just have to leave my house a little earlier. Boohoo. -
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) He's also a lefty... http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/W/alex-woodson.shtml His periphs look pretty decent.

Jon Garland signs a 3 year extension

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) I don't think we will be seeing Vazquez in long relief. All Vazquez has to do as a 5th starter is have a 4.50 ERA. Keep the team in the game. I think he can do much more though especially with Coop as the pitching coach. I agree and I want to keep Vaz as the 5th starter. I could care less about some prospect right now. -

QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) You said it better than I could have, nice job. Not sure about Tejada but I think there's another trade in the works. A player like Garland always has more value if they're signed. I don't think he will be moved considering there will be a conference call. Usually they don't do that with the player after they resigned him just to trade him. -
Happy Birthday.

Stupid if it's two. Angelos needs to fire the GM.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 12:52 PM) I agree and if I were a GM in need of a cheap 2nd baseman, I'd go after Willie. He's a far better player than most of the posters here think he is. This is how I feel about him.
