  1. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 10:45 AM) We need too protect abreu hello. I rather explore another avenue or trade.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 10:48 AM) Victor Martinez isn't a catcher any more, he's a DH. I understand. But the point I was making is, eventually your bat speed goes, your strength and your eye. I'm not interested in guys who just had a career year at 34 or 35 and are up for a contract unless they're coming for cheap. For Victor, the absolute most I would pay is 2 years - 16 million. He won't sign for that.
  3. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 10:29 AM) Couldn't agree more. I'm taking this with a huge grain of salt considering this is a Levine report. Agreed. You sign him, then what was your reasoning for letting AJ go? Not saying that wasn't the right decision(in fact, it was) and this would be the same one. The time to get Victor was his last go around IMO. Let the Red Sox bid for him.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 10:25 AM) Someone in radio broke SS2K5's heart. He doesn't trust any of them anymore He's right though. How can you be in Sports Journalism(radio, tv, print), but not watch the 4 major sports? And I'm not saying, watch everyday all day, but you should have a pulse. Jurko makes fun of the fact that he doesn't know jack about basketball by doing his stupid basketball trivia with Carmen. You'll hear Waddle just say he loves Pete rose, he should be in the HOF, how he grew up a Reds fan, and then know nothing about the sport. In fact, my pet peeve with Waddle is when he says, "I don't know too much about the situation, but I would guess" or "It sounds to me...". If you don't know what you're talking about, learn about it if it's your craft or get out of the craft.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 06:06 PM) For wife's bday thinking of heading to Tulum Mexico. Great beaches, Mayan ruins. But there is no electric grid, most only offer electricity from 7pm-midnight. Anyone ever been in a place like this? Is the breeze enough to be comfortable at night? Depends on the person. Me? I get irritated pretty quickly when I sense my self warming up. Usually though, as long as you're in shade, you'll be fine. Sleeping at night, should be fine too. I was just in MX a few weeks ago, and the sun kills ya if you're out all day, but once you get to shade or sunset, it's smooth sailing.
  6. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 10:29 PM) So after 3 weeks of consistent communication (both face-to-face and via email) with multiple people and with everything going as absolutely perfect as possible, “I’ll be in touch next week” has now turned into 2 weeks of complete and absolute radio silence. I’m not really sure how to proceed or if I should even do anything at all. I'm debating whether it would be proper to send an email asking for an update or not. I use those types of opportunities to simply leverage against them. Say you have an offer with another organization whom you interviewed with and you would like to know whether you should take it as you haven't heard back(make it sound nicer). Puts them in a position to have to respond and gives you clarity while also possibly getting you more money.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 04:21 PM) I wouldn't say December is necessarily the hard and fast, deals on the older model year start hot and heavy as soon as the manufacturer starts putting out the new model year, which can vary. There are a lot of 2015's that are already out. If you wait too late, the deals tend to run dry and it could be harder to find what you want as the inventory on those models gets low. You also should be careful and make sure you get the deal you really want when the new model is out and also consider new model upgrades that could impact resale value, etc. I've seen people buy older model new and then have another friend, same time frame, by newer model and just were more shrewd and actually pay less. Basically put, be cognizant to ensure you are really getting the price you feel comfortable with to justify the older model year vs. newer model year. Agreed. Also, if you're financing, there's a point in time in which banks consider buying a brand new older model more of a risk than buying a brand new new model. For example, I was at a dealership in May and they had a few brand new 2013s on the lot for the car I was looking for. They knocked off $6000 right off the bat before even looking at the car. Since I was financing though, I bought the 2014 model since it was a 4% interest rate deduction and my monthly payments came out lower. The extra cash I spent was fine with me knowing I bought a brand new car that just got delivered as opposed to one in the lot waiting around.
  8. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 07:13 AM) I've run Parallels, but I prefer VMWare Fusion over it. You shouldn't have any ghosting problems and if you did, I'm sure it's fixable under warranty anyway. You won't be a Windows fan much longer if you actually give OSX a real chance, especially Windows 8, which is a total suckfest OS on non-touch based systems. Just run a Google search for Windows users switching to OSX or Mac, there are probably 5000 websites dedicated to it. There are a few daunting changes, but after you get used to Apple's way vs Microsoft's way, you won't really notice it anymore. And for power users, OSX simply blows Windows away, as it's full UNIX. I once made this same jump from Windows to OSX myself, and at first there were things I couldn't figure out how to do, etc...but anything you can do on Windows, there is a way to do it on OSX, and after you learn it all, I doubt you'll look back. I HATE having to boot into Windows at this point, and thankfully the way the world has moved on, there isn't a lot of need to do it anymore aside from the few games that REQUIRE directX. Windows 8 isn't a total suckfest. Do you get the full capabilities if you don't have touchscreen or a Kinect? No. In the end, all you are missing is touch though. Not much of a deal breaker to anyone really as Apple, as far as I know hasn't introduced anything similar. And since he would be getting Windows 8.1(which improved greatly on whatever was wrong with 8), and a Surface Pro 3(which is touchscreen), seems like you were just fishing to take a shot at another non-Apple related product. Last, but not least, isn't Parallels a program that allows you to install a virtual instance of Windows on a Mac? If Windows sucks so much, why would you want to do that? In the end, both systems work differently and are best for different people. Both also have major flaws. No need to take shots at people who use Windows over Mac or even say an OS is crap when in reality, it's not.
  9. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 06:15 PM) Biggest disappiontment thus far has been battery life. I'm not even getting 8 hours despite sub-50% brightness, and nothing open except Chrome or Firefox (tried both to see if it would help with battery life). I even factory reset and went back to Mavericks to make sure it wasn't just something related to the Yosemite beta. The device is rated for 12 hours and lots of reports were saying it exceeded that 12 hour claim when web browsing. I'm not power using it at this point and it's falling far short of that claim. That's weird. I would see if Apple was willing to switch out the battery for you.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 10:43 PM) Your receivers are very average. How are they average? He has Calvin Johnson and Dez Bryant. That alone makes his WR core above good. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 10:44 PM) horrible draft. waited too long on the top RBs in an auction draft and ended up grabbing murray and a bunch of third tier RBs in hopes that a couple hit. and then later rounds missed my nomination turn and got stuck with yahoo defaulting a kicker and IDP leaving me with $5 on the table that I planned on spending towards another WR3/4 (guys like decker and sanders were still available, that hurts)... 10 team standard scoring, think I stand a chance? To me it's looking like a 6th/7th place type of team... QB - Foles RB - Murray RB - Bush/J. Bell WR - Jeffrey WR - Brown Flex - VJax TE - Davis DEF - SF Bench WR - Floyd RB - Richardson RB - Tate RB - CJ2K RB - Vereen Honestly, you didn't do bad. You have to clear out your bench of RBs though and get some backups. Overall though, RBs normally are the hardest group to predict. I usually draft them last nowadays because you're bound to find at least 3 backup RBs who turn out to be the starters on their teams and end up being studs. You also have 3 highly rated RBs who just fall off the face of the earth. Outside of Foles, I like your team alot.
  11. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 08:37 AM) I think my biggest problem with them (and most hosts) is that they don't follow all of the teams very closely. Waddle doesn't follow hockey, baseball or college sports. Jurko doesn't follow nba, baseball or college (sometimes watches NCAAF). So, basically it's Bears 24/7 and uninformed conjecture on the rest. At least they're not bitter like B&B, but is it too much to expect them to casually watch some of the other stuff? That's my issue with Chicago Sports Radio as a whole. I used to think other cities did the same, but they don't. I'll listen to ESPNLA or the show down in Miami or ESPNNY and none of those stations concentrate on football anywhere near the amount of Chicago Sports Radio. Heck, even in the summer, it's all pure conversation about the NFL. You'll have some guys on ESPN like Silvy or Carmen who try to steer the conversation to basketball or baseball, but in the end, it just ends up with football.
  12. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 08:00 PM) Good points, and third place in La Liga last year probably would have won the Premier League by a wide margin last season. The top two are just so strong, although Barca's new roster doesn't impress me as much as Real this season, that it's a high standard to compete with those two. They likely take third. I really felt Barca should've went after Di Maria as opposed to Suarez so he could help setup Neymar and Messi.
  13. San Diego is nice. Been there a couple of times. Lots of things to do, perfect weather year round, and you're right by the ocean. The Gaslamp district is happening, but not too loud or rude. Beaches are great. Zoo is the best in the world. In the end though, I would move to LA first and retire in SD. I need some grittyness and noise in my life. Plus, the abundance of sports teams. Housing is what makes living in Cali expensive. Without it, it's as expensive, if not slightly less expensive than Chicago, believe it or not.
  14. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 27, 2014 -> 03:04 PM) No, we don't need a scorer like Melo. We're just a Lance Stephenson and draft picks away! And Kirk will be back. He'll be the (PLEASE GOD) third string PG, but he'll be back on the vet min. Lance doesn't solve nearly enough problems for the cost and trouble he's going to bring you. You need Melo, or guys like Klay Thompson(whom from all accounts is now untouchable) paired with someone else.
  15. Looking for an SUV with less than 30000 miles and no older than a 2011 for under 25000 and a 7 seater at least. Only one I seem to find is the Durango which looks really nice and has some decent reviews. Just want to do due diligence. Can anyone recommend any others?
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 05:34 PM) Sarah Spain maybe the worst sports personality in this city. Gives no insight and uses old jokes that weren't funny at first. If she was two cups smaller or even a dude, she'd be in another business. That said, this is a good video. Disagree, I really like Spain on the radio. Sadly, she doesn't nearly do enough shows.
  17. QUOTE (SnB @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 12:22 PM) Goff and Bernstein were the best combo. I thought for sure Goff was waiting for Boers to leave. I hope he never goes back to the Score, especially with Bernstein's pompous ass. I really want him on ESPN. Take off Jurko(use that stunt he pulled against Friedell) and match him up with Carmen so we get some real good discussion.
  18. This series is a microcosm of the Bulls since 2010. Nowhere near enough offense. I hope people realize, even if Rose were to return like MVP Rose, they still wouldn't have nearly enough.
  19. Projectors are always a last resort to me.
  20. I wish I saw this thread earlier. What you could've done is just spun the names to something more traditional. If you really wanted Frank Thomas you could've said, "Frances Thomas" or Frances Tomas. I really wanted the name Iker named after Iker Casillas, the footballer. Wife nixed it. I usually look towards soccer star names in Europe as many are traditional, but also unique in a way.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 29, 2014 -> 04:55 PM) If we can get Aaron Gordon with that pick I would be so happy. I'm not sure why he's that low on draft boards but he is, at least for now. I'd gladly take that over a future lottery pick. Though he will be a stud defensively, he has no position, his offensive game needs a lot of refining and he didn't show this year that he could dominate consistently. He reminds me a lot of Tyrus Thomas to be honest with you. I watch a lot of Pac-12 basketball, and Aaron Gordon is at least 2 years away from contributing on a consistent basis for a team. The good thing is he can defend four positions. Sounds exactly like a Bulls player, all d, no o. I'd take Nick Johnson before Aaron. If I'm the Bulls, there's a lot of great options in their range. If the Bulls want to go with a backup C and PG, they could be in range for Tyler Ennis and Adriean Payne. If they want offense, 2 of LaVine, McDermott, Young, Hood and Stauskus and Selden should be there.
  22. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Mar 30, 2014 -> 03:31 PM) There is no way this happens even if Semien hits 1.000. They need to give Beckham a full year to see if he is worth it or at worst deal him at the deadline and get something in return for him. If Semien does hit well I'd love to see him fill in at 3B for a while though, or at SS if we trade Alexei. You're nuts. Beckham has had his chances. I'm not going to give him another year. Screw that. If Semien plays good, he should play, period.
  23. QUOTE (farmteam @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 09:34 AM) I have a feeling your Illini compatriots on this board will disagree with this.... I like Groce, but I just don't think he was a big enough name to close the deals, nor did he take over a program that was at very least consistently a tourney team when he took over. Usually that is a bad mix. Crean, even if pushed out, will always be seen as a big time head coach who's proven he can turn around a program.
  24. Why has everyone turned on Crean so suddenly? Hell, if available, I'd fire Groce in a heartbeat and hire him.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 11, 2014 -> 11:31 PM) Has the horrific winter in Chicago made any of you make any life decisions? By that I mean ... a.) you have now decided that "someday" in the future you will retire somewhere outside of frigid/snowy Chicago or b.) you've decided to immediately, at this stage of your life, look for work in a warm weather climate (Cali, Texas, Nevada)? It just seems you've gotten snow after snow; arctic blast after arctic blast. Our winter sucked here as well. I do hate the cold and ice. It did before, but now moreso than ever. My SO and I have dreamed about relocating to Southern Cali for the longest and actually planned to do so when our son graduates from middle school which is in 3 more years. We want to make sure we set ourselves up properly financially(move with no debt other than student loans and have cash and reserves saved up) since we have no family there. This winter, however, has made me think, I'd rather even deal with living in Miami or Houston as well even though it gets really hot.
