  1. Get Carl out of there...Jesus...He's hitting .189 left handed. God we need Frank...
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 23, 2005 -> 05:56 PM) Lidge would cost an absolute s***load and he ain't going anywhere. Who's going to trade an absolute stud closer who isn't a free agent for a long time, just ain't going to happen. Perhaps because HOU is aging fast and they start to rebuild and Lidge is a bargaining chip that can bring in some very nice talent. Maybe they do, maybe they don't. We shall see. Hopefully they decide to rebuild. The more talent available at the deadline, the better.
  3. Wow...the thought of Lidge at the backend of our bullpen until 2008 is very tempting, especially at a very cheap price. As long as McCarthy is not involved, I could deffinitely see KW making a move to get him. Top notch closer that impacts the team for several years at a cheap price...
  4. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 23, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) Also, I hear Eric Milton could be the next to go from Cincy. Now, I don't want him as a starter, but what about as a long relief? He has to be better than Cotts or Walker. Milton just signed a rather large contract. No thanks...
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 22, 2005 -> 12:00 PM) You've changed the whole point of the discussion. If you have a chance to make the team better then yes you do it. However you said that this team is not capable of winning a world series as it is and that's just completely false. No, I said that we could win the series. I said this team is not a World Series caliber team. There's a difference.
  6. I wouldn't mind getting a setup man like Brazoban...
  7. QUOTE(chisoxtime @ May 22, 2005 -> 11:57 AM) I would like to add a lefthander. Im not sure Cotts is playoff ready. A Guadardo type closer , make sure we have at least six starters. I like having six starters just in case u have to use one of them in relief. Depending on BMac, we might already have that 6th SP...
  8. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 22, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) I think KW will land a closer so that he can use Hermanson as the setup man. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/stats/bypositi...fied=1&sort=106 I'm hoping it's Guardado as well. The ex-Twin factor speaks for itself. Look at AJ. The fact that the WSox have good relations with the M's on the trading front probably gives the WSox the edge over other teams. A bottom feeder team does not need a dominant closer. They have much greater needs. Guardado is a luxury for the M's. Is Eddie a free agent after this year? Or is the 3 year, 15 mil contract in it's 2nd year?
  9. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ May 22, 2005 -> 11:52 AM) I'll wait to see which teams basically fall off the map 100%, the # of teams that do that should go up soon. Right now I'd like Hank Blalock or Eddie Guardado I'd sell my body for Blalock...
  10. QUOTE(Wedge @ May 22, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) The problem is that by solving a weakness, we would introduce a new one. I don't think the weakness solved would compensate for the weakness made, either. Are you talking about a specific trade idea like the Gagne trade? Or in general? I'm speaking in general...
  11. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 22, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) I'd like to see Pods move to the DH spot and if you have an OF have Dye, Rowand, Anderson next year (If Thomas is gone). Pods is an AWFUL defensive left fielder. What??? Speed is great and this team is built around it, but we need SOME power. To put Pods at DH would be a terrible idea. 1B and DH is where the Sox are able to supply their power.
  12. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 22, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) Main priority will be a long term deal with Garland IMO. I think they could move Dye to 1B after the season and let Konerko walk with Frank taking DH, Everett/Anderson in RF. No way. You need some serious offense out of 1B, especially the Sox. Pauly is so important to this offense. If he isn't going to be resigned, we need to replace him with someone of similar offense.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 22, 2005 -> 11:11 AM) Why aren't the chances favorable?? This team has a good of chance as any team in baseball to win the series. There isn't a team in baseball with less weaknesses then the sox. Not to mention if we can manage to get into the playoffs, we'll be throwing out duque, buehrle, garland and garcia, who the hell can match that?? I don't care whether this team has more or less weaknesses than other playoff caliber teams. That's not the point. The point is minimizing the weaknesses and making this club the best that it can be going into the playoffs. THAT'S the point. To say that we have no more weaknesses than other clubs and having that as the reason to not add more talent to this club is just stupid. I don't care how we match up with other clubs. If there's an opportunity to eliminate a weakness, you do it. Simple as that.
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 22, 2005 -> 01:12 AM) Bulls***. Every team has weaknesses and to tell you the truth we really don't have a glaring weakness. This team already is capable of winning the series, obviously doesn't mean they are going to but they definitely can. Of course we CAN, any team CAN, but the chances aren't favorable. So you would rather sit and not address a weakness just because we CAN win the series instead of addressing a weakness and becoming that much better? I think that is ridiculous logic.
  15. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ May 21, 2005 -> 08:20 PM) Billy Koch meet Eric Gagne. Except Koch had one servicable pitch, 100 mph heat. Gagne throws the kitchen sink at you.
  16. QUOTE(BobDylan @ May 21, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) You might as well say it's worthless to get Frank Thomas off the DL because we're fine as is and he hasn't been the Thomas of old. Give me a break. Agreed. As much as we want to believe it as fans, we are NOT a World Series caliber team. There are places where this team could improve and the setup/closer role is one of them. Do those who say that you "don't want to mess with team chemistry," actually think this is a World Series caliber team?
  17. We've experienced the impact of Hermy thusfar. Quite the impact. Adding Wagner is like having 2 Hermys in a way. Imagine that impact.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 20, 2005 -> 11:52 PM) are you saying it is the Continuing Decline and fall of Barry Zito I'm saying Zito isn't at all the pitcher he was when he won the Cy Young. Zito's name is what attracts people to him. Not his performance, anymore...
  19. Yuck to Zito. Progressively worse since his Cy Young. I don't like the trend.
  20. Hopefully, BMac can do what Felix Diaz did last year against the Cubs. 6 IP 3 ER. I think BMac will do a little better, 6 IP 2 ER. Go B!
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ May 20, 2005 -> 09:22 PM) Personally, I think the last thing they want to do right now is mess with Garland's rythym in any way shape or form. Sounds simple to just pencil him in, but there are all sorts of factors at play here. If this was the Twins, I think this might be a different story, but this is the Cubs. No need to mess around the rotation for a below .500 team....
  22. QUOTE(bogie @ May 20, 2005 -> 08:00 PM) Man, why against the Cubs? i don't like the fact that we have to throw someone out there in their first major league start against the Cubs. Don't we have other options? This makes us a big underdog Sunday especially against Prior. Why not? This is the Cubs we are talking about. I would much rather him get his first big league start against a struggling offense that might not have Ramirez if his back acts up again. BMac has a tremendous makeup. He can control his emotions. I have faith in that. Cubs offense sucks right now. If BMac were to pitch well in his first start to sweep the Cubs at Wrigley...Now that would be the ultimate confidence booster.
  23. I thought I remembered that Beane wasn't interested in BMac when KW explored a trade for Hudson over the offseason... JR/KW have said all along that there is room for KW to make a trade. Adding Chavez would only effect this season's payroll by about $4 million. Completely feasible. Chavez is a stud. Get him out of Oak and the god aweful offense that surrounds him and in the Cell, wow. It could be something special. But this is quite the stretch, but something I would love Kenny to look at.
  24. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ May 16, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) Carl deserves all the love he's been getting, and much more. He's the only one in the middle of the order who has consistently been a tough out. No one has been protecting him. If anyone doesn't deserve the love he's been getting, it's Konerko. I remember earlier in the season after Carl hit a big home run, he barely made it back to the dugout and the crowd was already chanting "Paulie, Paulie!" Carl can come up to bat after hitting a home run or driving in a big run his previous at bat and get polite applause. Konerko can come up after striking out a few times and the crowd is chanting "Paulie!" Anyway, if it weren't for Carl's hitting and his on the field and clubhouse leadership, the Sox wouldn't have 27 wins. Except when was the last time Carl was a "tough out?" He's failed miserably with RISP w/ less than 2 outs for the past few weeks. His weak pops ups to 2B and DP's to SS are growing very old. Frank is needed and needed fast... If you want to talk about no protection, then lets talk Konerko. The man has rarely walked in his career and is like 3rd in the league in walks. With Dye hitting behind him and now a struggling Everett, Pauly has had THE WORST protection on the team.
