Agreed. He pitched well in his surroundings (i.e. the cavernous Comerica). But I would s*** my pants if he pitched the same way at the Cell. The game would be over quickly.
-
If you want to talk about "if's"... If McCarthy was pitching at the Cell last night, he would have been shellacked for 4 homeruns.
-
Where does it say anything about Randa? He will be available at the deadline and he definately won't cost top prospects.
-
I would trade Jizzcan for Cintron in a second. If we have to throw in a prospect or two of our own, so be it. He's a switch-hitter that can play SS, 3B, and 2B. Then I would probably send Willie to Charlotte, get his trade value up, and package him up in a deal for whatever we need at the deadline.

I think I would rather have Stanton than Vizcaino. Stanton could actually fill a role of being a lefty specialist. Vizcaino has been bad against lefties AND righties. Even though he pitched 2.1 scoreless innings last night, he still gave up 4 hits and a BB. His WHIP is now 1.65 on the season. That is pretty brutal. Stanton has playoff success (3 rings with the Yankmees) and he's supposed to be a great clubhouse guy. Some team will definately pick up Stanton and I hope it's us. I wonder if we could get a decent prospect or two from the D-Backs for Vizcaino and use them towards a bigger trade to fill our other needs. Then we could just sign Stanton to replace Vizcaino in the bullpen.

The contract we offered Colon was sick. It was probably for the best that he didn't sign with us.
-
Look at Stanton's splits. He has been really good against lefties and we could use a lefty specialist.

No on Quantrill, yes on Stanton... http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/basebal...-sports-marlins He would be horrible at the Cell.

LOL, sorry Giants. Ain't gonna happen. Schmidt is good but he isn't worth that much, especially since his health can't be guaranteed. -
I posted this in the trade thread. I wouldn't mind signing Mike Stanton. He has sucked against righties but he has been really good against lefties, albeit in a small sample size. He could make a nice LOOGY for us. Mike Stanton's splits If Kenny was interested in Jim Brower, I'm sure he would be interested in one of these two guys.

One of the Twinkies' young studs has bitten the dust... Supposedly, they may be interested in Bret Boone if Seattle would pick up some of his contract.

I want Kenny to sign Stanton. He has sucked against righties but he has been great against lefties. He could make a good LOOGY for us.

"Quantrill and Stanton May Be Let Go Thursday" http://nytimes.com/2005/06/30/sports/baseb...30notebook.html Check out Stanton's splits. It's a small sample size but he has been great against lefties even though he has sucked against righties. If the Yankees DO end up releasing him I would hope Kenny would try to sign him. He could be a good LOOGY for us. -

He also did it at Charlotte. Maybe that's just the way he pitches a la Eric Milton -- a flyball pitcher. That won't fly well pitching at the Cell. No pun intended.
-
Because he is prone to giving up deep fly balls. He did it at Wrigley, he did it at Texas, and he did it at Detroit. Those deep flies tonight are homers at many ballparks and definately at the Cell. He will have to pitch his home games at the Cell, right?

Low risk? 1. We had a chance to gain another game on the Twins with a win. That is huge considering we play them 13 more times in August and September. 2. We had a 1-run lead. It was a SAVE SITUATION. That is what your CLOSER is for. 3. Shingo had pitched 1.2 IP before that final inning. He had the bases loaded with only 1 out. A single could score 2 runs and lose the game. -

I don't see why you don't think there's a big difference between being 10 games up on the Twins and only 9. We should just go with our 2nd worst bullpen option instead of our closer because another game tacked onto our lead over the Twins doesn't matter much? -

You use your closer in save situations. Shingo came close to blowing it. At least if you have your closer Hermanson in there, you can't second guess the move.
