  1. "Scouting Report Pinto is undersized but still sits 90-94 and touches 96 as a starter. He?€™s also got a straight, planeless fastball that might not play in the majors, even at that velocity, and a fringey slider. The changeup is above average and Pinto?€™s best pitch, and it could be plus at peak. Pinto throws enough strikes to start, but when I saw him mid-year with Reading I thought the stuff really started to play down after multiple times through the lineup and, without a good third pitch to which he could resort, Pinto started getting tagged. I think, if the velo ticks up in short relief stints (it was 93-96 in the Futures Game), it will give him more margin for error on the fastball and suddenly a 60 fastball, 60 changeup with a good amount strikes starts looking pretty good one inning at a time. I have him projected in the bullpen, but the present fastball grade is as a starter where I think it plays down due to a lack of movement." https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-33-pros...lphia-phillies/ Another guy with a good changeup, and seems from this like a decently intriguing bullpen spect
  2. Just in time for board revival. <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8">
  3. This year will be interesting. If this year we see some of our minor league contract guys pan out again, there are some takeaways: 1. Our pro scouting has improved and I'll be more confident when we start adding bigger pieces the next two years 2. Our investment on scouting specifically relief pitching is starting to pay off With #2, not sure if that would actually apply to the players that would perform in majors. But if that wave of Tyler Johnson, Henzman, Olson, Burr, etc etc also perform well in minors, sox may have put some valuable bullpen assets together.
  4. What is a white sox guy at this point? Seems like we've gone big on statcast schools. We have been avoiding players with big athletic tools that lacked hitting polish. But that's a last 2 years trend. And last year all "trends" were pointing to us and Jerren Kendall. We grabbed Burger and then a bunch of good contact/power guys with little positional versatility and then college relievers. I could see madrigal fitting into this "best hitter available" mold we've ridden with, or this year we go big with athleticism to round out our minors (in both pitcher and hitter build)
  5. I'm not that surprised by Charlotte. I think they want to avoid being forced to press up a future prospect, so they want filler guys like Volstad available for spot starts. Am surprised that they put Clarkin at AA and not Dunning. That said I bet it shakes out fairly quickly. They may have told him to get more under control while he pitches and purposely disappointed him to see how he handles. Where is adolfo? DH in W-S? I'm not against challenging Rutherford. I think he was too complacent about his failure last year and they want to show him that everything is advancing around him. Disappointed about curbelo but i bet it shakes out fairly quickly. I also think they want our catchers to be familiar with these more likely future pitchers in AA. ANd set up a AA team that can have some on field success.
  6. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Mar 28, 2018 -> 10:09 AM) Surprise- Adam Engel, I think he will hit .250+ with 15 HR and 15 SB Disappointment: Reynaldo Lopez, his walk rate will really hurt him throughout the year Dark Horse: Nicky Delmonico, I just love this guys swing and I think he will prove to be a big part of the future. My list is similar Surprise - Engel - not even starter level, but I think similarly to Yolmer he establishes himself as enough of a hitter that he'll have a decent 4-5 year run in majors due to versatility and defense. Disappointment - Reynaldo Lopez, funny how he was the least disappointing guy in AAA last year after that 8-9 start run. But the whole "starts off looking good then hits a wall in 4th inning" just gives me the uneasy bullpen feeling. Luckily we have the space to let him keep developing. I do think he'll be lights out in bullpen. Dark Horse: Juan Minaya - he impressed me last year handling the high stress situations after probably starting year expecting just to be a rarely used reliever. I think that experience treats him well this year with pressure tamped down and he lets loose. Now org wide? Surprise - Alex Call - I don't know if it will be him, but I just feel like the injuries to robert/adolfo will allow one of the other A-outfielders to take advantage full force. So, yeah, one of Call,Fisher, Gonzalez, Booker, Dedelow...one says "I will make majors!". I should have went with basabe. Oh well. Disappointment - Trying to think of someone that would be unexpected disappointing. I'm gonna go with Gavin Sheets. His makeup is great and he was awesome at soxfest. But there is a lot of pressure for him to rake so much that he could easily fall way back this year. Dark Horse - Going with my 2016 intl FA fix...gonna take Anthony Coronado. Maybe his k rate will be super high, but I'm gonna bet on his power continuing to advance and impress people. The better pick is probably Curbelo.
  7. I think at this point my ranking is Madrigal Mize Turang Swaggerty Mclanahan Liberatore Gorman Hankins
  8. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Mar 1, 2018 -> 03:10 PM) BA bringing back the draft tracker feature. Kind of a stock up stock down report. Bi-weekly. Subscriber only. https://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/2018-...arnach-helping/ Awesome.
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 1, 2018 -> 01:52 PM) Following Aaron Leming on Twitter, it's all Albert Wilson all the time. I'm good with it, fine with him or Taylor Gabriel. One thing that stuck out last year, it was really hard to tell apart our WRs. They were all very samey, same height, speed. Inman came in, looked the part and I would like to re-sign him. He's not a #1 receiver but I think he's a good #4!
  10. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 1, 2018 -> 01:49 PM) Scouts are absolutely raving about chisox prospect Luis Robert. That team has more 4-star prospects than anyone. (Yanks, padres, braves just behind) https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/969297918367752192?s=19 Heyman is good again.
  11. Heyman sure has tied the sox to a lot of players that they haven't acquired this offseason.
  12. Subscriber only, but I thought this was a good piece by Durkin criticizing of sorts Pace missing opportunity to embrace cleaning the slate and starting over. https://www.theathletic.com/257578/2018/03/...s-faith-in-him/ One thing that continues to bother me as he harps on FA being dangerous, for someone that wants to build primarily through the draft he does not prioritize accumulating draft picks. For all of his trade-ups he has netted out about the same (20 picks in 3 years), but a lot of that has been 4-7th picks, and never getting more than 3 picks in rounds 1-3.
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 1, 2018 -> 12:04 PM) But we can't sign him for quite a while, right? When does free agency begin? When can teams talk with agents? Next Tuesday starts the legal tampering period. The Chiefs GM basically said "well matt's in Chicago now", I think it's just an acknowledgement that they've heard from Wilson that he'll want to follow Nagy.
  14. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Mar 1, 2018 -> 10:26 AM) We should do a monthly poll to see who we would pick if all candidates are available. I would love to see what the support is for each guy and how that changes in the next 4 months. I would make the poll myself, but I don't know how to so I would probably mess it up. Could be fun to use a non-site tool which we could track in one place easier (rather than 5 separate threads). Google forms or something.
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 1, 2018 -> 10:11 AM) I feel very comfortable with the pitching at the top. The Sox are guaranteed one of Hankins/Liberatore/McClanaan/Rolison at this point The pitchers intrigue me much more than the hitters, even though I want a hitter much more.
  16. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Mar 1, 2018 -> 09:57 AM) I don't get why some posters over here fall all over themselves to overlook all of Engels clear flaws, while other CF candidates strengths are ignored. I mean, I question Engels purported strength as a defender, given his inferior defensive metrics. (Yes, he made some highlight reel plays last year, but the fact remains that his DRS was negative last year.) At the same time, despite Engel having sucked at hitting at virtually every stop in MiLB, posters still have this insane "hope" that he'll magically start hitting in The Show. Meanwhile, Tilson and Cordell have both out hit Engel at every stop. For me, the depth chart @ CF should be: 1. Leury (better metrics in every way than Engel last season) 2. Cordell/Tilson (better bats than Engel) 3. May/Engel as injury replacements & Charlotte placeholders. Baseball Savant's Outs Above Average rated Engel very favorably last year: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/outs_above_average White Sox also prefer a very shallow CF to take away weak hits, and Engel is maybe our only defender who can do that while still recovering well enough going back.
  17. While I'm glad Powell came out with his second statement, I think US will miss out on what the second term from Yellen could have done. Powell isn't going to prematurely kill the economy or anything (hopefully), but she had done such a good job at beating down the hawks and moving toward a more reasonable view of the inflation target range.
  18. QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 1, 2018 -> 08:08 AM) It needs to have Federal backing. That is the only way to make change. Illinois can change it some, it will help but the federal government needs to do something similar to Illinois at a minimum. I'm the first person to say their should be fewer federal regulations and the states should have more autonomy. But something like this is just reasonable for safety. Automatic weapons and high capacity magazines, while fun to play with, are just too tempting for the wrong people to cause massive damage. For whatever reason more and more people are thinking this type of action is a good idea so unfortunately these changes need to be made. We will never be able to stop all incidences. If someone really wants to do this they will find a way such as bombings instead of automatic weapons. However, it should be made as difficult as possible. I think related is some really great reporting the Tribune has been doing on the gun that was used recently to kill Commander Bauer. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/b...0228-story.html Legally bought in a gun store in wisconsin, then sold to a friend in a gun club. That friend then sold it through a website that doesn't demand identification of the buyer. The whole story is very well done, I highly recommend if you have access.

    2018 catch-all

I have a lot of things set up and monitor my debit cards a lot but one thing incredibly annoying to me is not being able to log-in to the accounts for which I'm an authorized user. We have 2 diff credit cards we use for different rewards, it's hard to keep track of them when only one can view the other. I know statements from mint, but, it's dumb (and probably necessary, but still dumb!)

  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 01:24 PM) I think it is more that from Columbine to now, the voting base that has been effected by stuff like this is much larger than ever before. I truly believe a wave of change is coming as it relates to a lot of these matters. Not sure how drastic the change (if any) will be, but I think we are getting closer to seeing bigger change. I think this is a big part of it, and two other things: - The use of social media by the students and forwardness demanding change is so different than most shootings which obssess over the murderer's motives and tactics. And I think this is a big development because it does not allow the framing to j ust be "man this guy was crazy", it's "why have we not done everything possible to protect us?", from the victims, from kids. - Much of the population has incurred consistent restriction of freedoms in an effort to prevent these massacres, either foreign terrorism or mass shooters. And have and still do willingly put up with this because preventing loss of life is important. But to me it feels like it has been 15 years of gun groups saying "no, no, I can't sacrifice, it's this ,it's that" and people are fed up that they refuse to be part of the sacrifice to find a solution.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 10:17 AM) Royals acquire Duda, so they are out on Moose I was going to post that but wasn't sure. Doesn't that just replace Hosmer?
