QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 31, 2018 -> 09:59 AM) Agreed, I mean it's still March for crying out loud. It's stupid not to maximize the warmest part of the day, and it rains a lot this time of year....give yourself more time to get the game in. Lol I forgot it’s not even April! Goes double!

I don’t understand playing weekend night games for north teams in April.

Weird how Ronald Acuna is in the minors. -
Was there any news on if Duffy was hurt?

I turned the aging thing to be more gradual for sure. Obviously people get older and worse, but it would be like they hit 30 and then are hitting .190 with a .250 slugging percentage.

I really hope bulls hit big in the draft I will probably repeat this 1000x, but this tanking is so much worse than baseballs. This year was so much worse than early 2000 bulls. But...they have to do it. I don't know what they do. The round robin tourney for non playoff teams i think is way better than the lottery. As the NBA should now recognize, the marginal improvement of odds to potentially land a franchise changing player is worth basically infinite amounts of effort to acquire vs just trying to build through a different type of luck/chance (building best team possible and landing a superstar in position 10-25) Until they change the process of acquiring best odds of a high draft pick to discourage losing, this will happen. There is no league where relegation makes more sense than the NBA. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 06:59 PM) Speculation on MLBN is he may have the yips. Toronto says he has a dead arm. If he has the yips, it will cost him a lot of money. I don't really remember as many elbow / throwing injuries on position players when I was a kid as there have been last few years.

I did not know true attributes were available. But also the first few seasons its a head trip trying to separate real life prospect trajectories with the games. Like I had to basically trade kopech for trash because he was causing locker room revolts.

I could watch Timmy's second homer a thousand times. Also really liked how excited both of those guys were to take a walk in the game, mentioning it right alongside the home runs.

QUOTE (daggins @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 07:20 PM) Yes, by game 82 he won't be able to hit it out of the infield. By game 160 he will expire on-field from exhaustion. Game 162 he will be an actual baby struggling to make its way out of the uniform.

Minaya will be fine. He’s got an arm that can k people so give him some space to figure it out.
-
My boy Juan cant find his release point right now.
-
Ummm... let’s get him 4 right?
-
I too was on a severely delayed nbc sports app but i had to sign out. Just gonna head home and hope i can catch last 3 innings.
-
Among other things, guys I think there are going to be a lot of home runs in baseball again this year.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 04:13 PM) Just gonna throw this out - this team isn't going to finish well over .500 when James Shields is on the mound opening day. Even if that bullpen magically is great or something like that. Oh sorry, guess I didn't realize that this team had to finish over .500 or it was an abject failure. I will set my enjoyment level to misery from here on out.
-
Just gonna throw this out there, i'm not sure losing the first four innings of opening day with james shields on the mound in kansas city is a doomsday indicator.

Engel is nice and fast. Never really got the Trout body comparisons though. He looks like he could fit inside Trout and roll around.

Should the Sox attempt to extend some of their talent?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 03:02 PM) Nobody mentioned Avi Garcia...the most relevant for present discussion. I wouldn't be totally opposed to Leury or Yolmer if you could get a bargain deal done. But neither of those guys, nor Davidson, would be on the list of front office priorities. Caulfield? Is that you? -

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 02:37 PM) I think the one they should try extending now is Rodon. His talent is phenomenal and he has ace potential, but he has so much uncertainty to him right now. I know he's a Boras client, but this might be a time you could get him to agree to a team friendly extension in exchange for some certainty to his future. Yeah I think this one would be correct. I'm on board with trading or extending rodon this year, to be honest. -
White Sox Acquire Minor Leaguer for Intl Bonus Slot $

QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 02:00 PM) Interesting note, Hahn said they were going to try to have Pinto be a starter again. They're sending him down to WS so he can get stretched out again and then he will head to AAA. Also the Sox outrighed Jose Ruiz to Winston-Salem, so the 40 man currently is at 39. That's a surprise. -

QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 01:21 PM) No I wasn't arguing against what we did. It was very creative and I would look for it to continue to some degree. Everyone made great comments. I was really pushing point two of establishing a bigger presence by an academy. Teach the kids and get them ready for stateside. This coming year, we have known we are in the penalty phase long enough to plan for it. If we can't find quantity this year, I question what the scouts are doing. I still think we trade off some of the money to acquire some prospects further along. We will need to keep young talent in the pipeline. We will soon begin to get into tighter and tighter 40 man roster decisions so we have to balance acquisitions in that regard as well. Yeah I agree I definitely want a full class. I'm optimistic there, however. Last year was also strange because it was the first of the new CBA, but most people would have been committed prior to its effect. So this is their first full year, which I hope pays off. Sox have been mentioned on at least 2 guys for 2018 that I've seen. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 01:14 PM) I actually learned this too while the site was down. It's pretty irritating. The Twins still have 3 selections before the one they forfeited to sign Lance Lynn. Teams like Sox and Phillies are really at a disadvantage. Philly had to forfeit the 3rd selection in the 2nd round to sign Santana and the 3rd selection in the 3rd round to sign Arrieta. The Twins and Brewers gave up their 3rd rounders for Lynn and Cain but still have their 1st, 2nd, and a competitive balance selection. It's insane They have enough money to sign premier free agents but also need to be protected and rewarded with what has become one of the most valuable assets in the game.
-
I learned that you can't lose competitive balance picks for qualified FAs (cardinals with Holland woulld have a comp pick be their pick normally they give up) and it made me hate comp balance picks even more.
