Sox send Frazier/DRob/Kahnle to NY ~ Rutherford/Clarkin/Clippard/Polo
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 09:58 AM) So Brian Cashman was just on MLB radio and actually said he and Kenny hammered this deal out. He is very proud of his system and mentioned that often times other GMs will ask about some of his top guys, and he said he has to try and make it clear, that because of the depth of his system, oftentimes his 8-12 might be more equivalent to another team's 1-5. Other GMs don't want to hear that when he is trying to take guys like Torres and Mateo and Rutherford off the table. Sounds like they really wanted Quintana. We must have been asking for Torres and Rutherford or something. Oh no, if Blake fails we are never going to hear the end of how it was a Kenny move.

What is Blake Rutherford's upside?
I wouldn't say there's nothing to get excited about. He is only striking out 18% of the time, and walking a little over 8% of the time. The glaring part is power. And he is hitting doubles, he doesn't appear to be hitting a Collins amount of groundballs either. It is just power. But if the power never comes he's useless. But it'd be worse if it was no power, no discipline.

FS: The Ghost of Systems Past
I'm not close to calling out Hostetler, but am just dying for some drafted position prospect that breezes through. Maybe that's Burger.

FS: The Ghost of Systems Past
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 09:29 AM) The Sox now have likely the best farm in all of baseball. But the previous iterations of development of minor leaguers provides a note of caution. Regardless, the system is so much better now than any time in the recent past. A look at the juxtaposition. Great article. There is a lot to like around what's happening. But, looking at our first round picks since 2013 Anderson Rodon Fulmer Collins / Burdi Burger The last 2 -- that's Hostetler. And I think in terms of actual performance you'd say it's actually very good to have 2 1st round picks in the majors. But it's nagging at me a bit that this is the best draft position over 5 years we've ever had and they are still only hypothetical foundation pieces. The other thing, pretty negative nancy I know, but we now have the 2 bats we rated highest (maybe, we'll never know) from 2016. Maybe we have no idea about Senzel or whatever, but of the players we supposedly targeted. I just wish those bats were destroying the A levels before being tested. That their natural hitting ability was challenged so early is just a little nervewrecking to me. I'm not saying BUST or FAILURE yet, more that I just wish we could have some dudes that we draft that just rip through it all to ease anxiety around player dev. Like a Sale

It just feels like every contending teams outfield is awesome though.

What is Blake Rutherford's upside?
QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 09:07 AM) The closest comp to him I see on this thread is probably younger Markakis...I think Sizemore is too fast for Rutherford and Abreu/Heyward have too much pop I'm not too big on Rutherford but I suppose his ceiling is a 15-20 homer/.280 guy with 10-15 steals, RF of course...I just don't see him on our future Series roster, Clarkin on the other hand I could see as a backend of the rotation guy or 'pen piece at worst and Polo has a ceiling of a backup OFer, both closer to the Show If he is actually a .280/20/15sb guy it won't matter if he's our WS roster guy, he may be the reason we some other roster series pieces.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 08:26 AM) ^this. People on here say we should have eaten money to get a better return but you just can't force a team to do that. They figured this was the best offer while allowing them to eat almost no money (just Clippard's couple million and even he has value to us to throw some innings since we need guys in the pen). The Yanks are going to be "forced" to shed salary to get under luxury tax threshold so I doubt this was an unlikely scenario.

7/19 Games (Fulmer, Stephens)
QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 07:30 AM) That game was continued due to a past suspended game. He had that at bat weeks ago, he did not play after they resumed in the 2nd inning yesterday. Ha! Nice catch there!

The holes of the system:shortstop and catcher
Yeah I disagree on catcher. For one, no org that I've seen is STOCKED with sure catchers. But everything behind Collins is where our depth is. Skoug, Alfaro, Zevala, Perez, Hickman. More interesting than it's been in a while. SS I totally agree but I think we see a pretty good shortstop enter the system around June next year.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 06:42 AM) Hahn said they offered to eat money with other teams, but this was the best deal from a value standpoint. Unfortunatly, they can't force the Yankees to give up a better prospect return in exchange for money. But they need to get under. There is some need there.

If Sox eat as much of Robertsons deal as we did on Nats proposed deal, I think we are happier with return.

QUOTE (Sockin @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 08:16 PM) I'm not exaggerating in the least either. There was a margarita vendor that sat in the seat behind me to watch him hit. Sox fans are ready to cheer for something. Just have to wait 2 years.

QUOTE (Sockin @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 07:57 PM) I'm at the game and you honestly would have thought Babe Ruth himself was hitting when Moncada was up. Crowd was Ooooing and Ahhhing with every pitch and there were vendors that stopped selling and sat down to see the at bat. lol I want to save this post for a year from now
