yason was 2-4 in his W-S debut.

For those that don't venture into futuresox forum, Eloy also had a nice day yesterday, going 2-3 with 2 walks and a double. 3 RBI. Winston-Salem, which this year had been a dreadful offensive team, has had an infusion of players from Kanny and now this trade and is performing really well in second half. flete has also been hitting like crazy and was 2-4 yesterday.

QUOTE (Username @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 08:25 AM) 8 BBs to 4Ks for Abbot. It's early but that's awesome, especially given how raw he supposedly is. Yeah. I'm just thinking back to Zangari, who had a nice start to AZL but was k'ing a ton. Really like to see Abbott doing...exactly what he did in his small town high school.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 08:49 AM) Unfortunately, I think Wade's versatility is more valuable to a contending team than a rebuilding team and I just don't see them giving him up. Yeah this is a good point on Wade.

QUOTE (Username @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 08:20 AM) I think the cash component is huge for them. Having Robertson for 2 years at cheap is a pretty substantial asset, especially given their desire to stay under the luxury tax. Hope we eat a lot to get a better prospect back. This type of deal fits way better for them than Q (though they need him more). They've got the excess 40 man guys and lots of 2nd tier specs that are blocked. I feel like Tyler Wade could be a good get as well. Highly versatile, only 22 and all he's done is hit. Yeah I'd be happy to get Wade.

Abbot is performing really well. So is Hickman. Neither striking out too much either. Kiel also had a scoreless inning with only one walk

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 06:34 AM) Trading Kanhle now is dumb because he has more upside as a closer in 2018. Worst case scenario, he fails and still is an effective 7th inning guy with dominant stuff. Who else could be the closer next year? With Burdi down, there's no candidate (other than Fulmer or possibly Lopez) for 2018. Resign Swarzak to close? Beck? Danish? Guerrero and Adams are still perceived to be starters. We've already lost any potential Petricka, Putnam and Jones returns. As well as Jennings, for anything more than a flier. Worst case scenario is he gets tommy john

winston salem is now a fun follow? 2-3 with a double and a walk and like, all the RBIs for Eloy! 2-4 for the new shortstop Yason 2-4 for Fisher. Nice day for Luis down in A ball as well, where Hickman had a very strange scoreless, k-less start.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 06:00 PM) Not that any of them are mega-prospects, but hopefully Jose Vinicio doesn't continue to get regular at-bats with Peter, Alvarez and Dickman in a 2B/SS logjam at AA. Gotta be his last game. I really think they oughta give Mendick every chance. At least as much as they've invested in Peter/Alvarez at this point.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 06:02 PM) A key to the rebuild is also getting core guys that aren't expected (i.e.: Hendricks for Cubs). I think we have a nice group of those players with possibility of emerging. I feel a lot better about the surprise group than I did when it included Trey M and Robinson Leyer.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 05:42 PM) This rebuild better work. This team is going to be so terrible. I spend money watching them. I get what they have to do, but I am not so sure the right guys are running the show. They get prais d now, but the were praised for going for it in 2015. Praised for what they brought in prior to 2016. Praised for the 2016 draft. Praised for the 3 trades. So far, 2015 and 2016 were busts. The 2016 draft, and it is admittedly way too early, but doesn't look like it was full of future stars, and the trades are still maybe. After the deadline deals, this team is basically dark until the next draft. This winter is going to be boring unless they do some prospect for prospect deals, which at a high level, I would doubt. They won't really have anyone to trade. Next season will be nad on the field at the major league level. I just hope some of these guys who will take up so,e roster spots show some hope. Next year there will at least be a graduation of Lopez (who is currently pitching a gem), Giolito, and Moncada. Maybe we'll get an actual FA flyer gem that plays well for a year. I hear you on the execution. By the books, this looks good, but we haven't had a player absolutely fly the guns blazing like Acuna is right now, or Devers or Benintendi. I guess Kopech could be that guy but he's restricted. The 2016/2017 draft does make me nervous in terms of hitters. We may have been fooled by advanced college hitters in age advanced or age appropriate leagues performing well for a bit. But regardless, that draft may have gotten us a lockdown reliever and top 100 pitcher. Collins, if he sticks, has a very low bar to clear to be a top catching prospect. See the stats of some of the other top catchers like Pentecost. The players like Call/Fisher may fail, but we also have Bernardo Flores. Basically if we get 3 major leaguers from that draft I think it deserves it's praise.

Also, Eloy 1-2 with a 2b and a walk.
-
Especially since Gwinnett has been crushing the ball. Great performance. I hope he's rewarded with a win, and doesn't see a bullpen arm give up 10 runs.
-
I, to this day, have still enjoyed this year more than 2015 and 2016. And those years had Sale and Q for full years.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 05:12 PM) When you bring in players with mechanical flaws in their swing, you better have good enough instruction in the organization to help them develop. I was reading the Eloy bios, how he made a bunch of adjustments. Leg kicks, smoothed out his stroke. I was wondering if he did that or if cubs. And then i thought about how I never read stuff about adjustments like that from our hitters. Seems to always be let them take what got them there until they fail then try to fix it. Maybe except for Engel. That dude changes his swing every day.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 05:27 PM) Didn't you say they have $10 mil or so in space? They signed Fister, though. Sox will definitely be sending money here.
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 05:09 PM) they can bide their time. They can wait out Frazier on a waiver claim if necessary. Eh, I don't think they'd do that. Their 3b situation sucks, so it's either give it to Devers in August or get an upgrade now.
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 05:06 PM) I won't rule it out, especially if we deal Frazier, drob, swarzak, kahnle, melky, etc soon. Our bullpen will be a total mess, blowing games regularly. The 2018 draft is looking to be stronger than 2017 as well. I could see us winning roughly 60 games Yeah at the recent showcase for the Prep players Belinsky seemed very very positive around this 2018 class, which would make it a good time to have a big bonus pool.
-
2016 draft having a rough year outside of Hansen, largely due to injuries. TJS for Burdi Call looks destroyed by his rib injury Curbelo in that same mystery zone of unknown injury Fisher/Collins pretty meh.
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 04:37 PM) I'm gunning for a top three draft pick for sure. Without Frazier, Quintana, Robertson, swarzak and possibly kahnle or melky we will be a pretty awful team. I don't think the sox will catch the phillies, but top three is very realistic. Probs controversial but I do think we will catch the phillies. They underperformed imo, in the first half. We often overperformed. They have nola back. We have a maybe healthy rodon and garbage. If our promotions play well then maybe its moot. But I expect a run for #1.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) The idea of Q on a team that can play defense and where he doesn't have to worry that if he gives up 2 runs, one of them unearned on a ground ball, he will lose...my goodness that's terrifying. Yeah, the defense upgrade plus facing 2 easy pitcher outs helping cut down on pitch counts are big.

A good inning from D rob. Let's walk this off. Yolmer crush the scoreboard please.

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 04:02 PM) A's got hosed. Way to lower the bar for relievers Oakland. One of the reasons I'm glad we traded Q just as As started shopping in earnest. I think they are a team that can undercut you because they tend to ask for some weird returns sometimes.
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) The price tag for hand is very high, making Robertson an attractive piece, especially if the sox kick in any cash. Good point. I think you are right.
