Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 01:20 PM) The problem is there are also no games being played today, or tomorrow, or this week. Or the last three months. I really believe if the upcoming season doesn't put enough pressure on teams than the external pressures of the season progressing may. It would be great if there were analysis on actual returns for pre-deadline vs offseason. I think the one position that I'd bet money would be more valuable at deadline would be middle relief. There just doesn't seem to be the motivation to go after Jones that I thought there would be, as bullpen is so volatile I think many teams squint and see it working at this point.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
The only team that I'd really like to be more hot for Q and could be more of a player if we wait is the Yankees. If Q keeps being Q and the Yankees start off hot, then we will see a team with a great match for us looking to trade (moreso than now) But just as easily the Yanks could be completely out of it in June against a stacked division and re-commit to waiting on Torres/Frazier etc to bring them back. That is the only team with the prospect cache that makes less sense now. Teams like Padres, Brewers, Phillies etc are not going to be suddenly there with us in six months. Whereas the Rockies are so insane there is no need to ever wait. Our current group of Bucs, Braves, Houston are 3 great systems with a need. And frankly, I have no doubt we get a deal as good as that Samardjiza/Hammel deal. Most of us are proposing deals that are better than that, without a sweetener like Hammel.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
We are probably incorrectly lumping in all prospects together when we shouldn't. And I don't think "close to bigs" is the actual reason teams are holding on to prospects we had expected they'd part with. The actual disappointment so far is that teams are not trading top hitting prospects as easily as pitching prospects. Nationals gave a haul for eaton, but that haul was not going to include Robles. The pirates hang ups aren't over top prospect glasnow or Keller, it's including Meadows or Bell. The yankees should be willing to trade their glut of position prospects! Except they aren't giving many in a package, because the value is above what we expect. And this probably is not irrational and likely is not going away. The FA market for hitters has been big on no position power guys and weak on regular position players for a few seasons now, and the "meh" hitting good fielding guys are getting paid. So what exactly is changing from the above dynamic in six months?

White Sox will keep trying Collins as a C
I recommend Garfein's podcast if you are starved for sox news. Garfein is pretty entertaining outside of a studio setting and he does a good job putting together interesting people for the podcast outside of expected regulars like hayes/merkin/etc

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 08:33 AM) Rick Hahn doesn't need to be in a rush right now and can hold out for 2-3 weeks to see if someone gives up the player that is currently untouchable. I actually felt relieved by CWS reporting of the Merkin interview on SCR of the sox needing to back off the top player plus 4 other top prospects to complete a deal. We all assume Meadows is the last piece. But people assumed Moncada was the last piece to be agreed upon, it was actually Devers being swapped out for Basabe/Diaz. We have SO little info right now. The board is having dramatic mood swings and putting incredible narratives over very uninformative tidbits of information. But the one inference someone mentioned that we could draw is if the sox were truly that far off of everyones demands we wouldn't keep hearing that teams are talking to them daily.

#IwantBeer2018
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 09:11 AM) Something working on favor of the Sox for Beer I'd that they play in the AL, whereas all of the other tankers are in the NL. Right. In spring training of last year we would have laughed that there was no way the reds/phillies/braves would not be in the top three, and lo and behold the 84 win twins ended up with the #1 pick. It's hard to tell me after watching the last two years and not improving at all that this team without eaton and sale is actually still a 70 win team.

2017 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 03:31 PM) Honestly I do not know at all why this President has chosen commutations over pardons but that has been a choice they have made literally thousands of times over the past year, and since I'm in this thread I can say that I'll defer to their judgment as they've earned some deference. My best guess is pardon implies innocence whereas commuting is a disagreement on sentencing. I think May puts Manning on a more reasonable sentence for her crimes. The non-violent drug offenders were commuted, again, not implying innocence but instead sentencing issues.

2017 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 03:29 PM) I wouldn't put it past them to make up some bogus stuff. "She tried attacking a prison guard. That's 20 more years!" What rationale is there that Trump Admin would want to reverse this.

Good. That year plus where she was in solitary was absurd and abusive.

Kopech hit 110 mph on the radar
QUOTE (SpringfieldFan @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 03:19 PM) Not to excuse or defend him, but I just got a flashback to a time when *another* 100+ flamethrower from Texas retaliated by throwing punches at a player. Luckily Robin isn't our manager anymore.

It is kind of incredible seeing where th eleague is at now with 1b/dh types and how freaking hard the sox tried and failed to plug a league average DH into their lineup.

2017 Hall of Fame
Aside from stats, Guerrero is one of those players that is just "hall-worthy" for how memorable they were. Laser throws from outfield, golf swing home runs. He was just awesome.

Update: Luis Robert has been cleared according to Rosenthal
From FG Eric Longenhagen chat: JH 12:46 What kind of draft range would you put on L. Robert? Is he a first-round type talent? Eric A Longenhagen 12:46 Oh yes. Top 10. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/eric-longen...ies-to-removal/

Kopech hit 110 mph on the radar
I don't know, so long as Kopech attitude doesn't involve publicly throwing teammates/coaches/team under bus constantly I wouldn't mind a bigger personality. Big arrogant long-haired texan throwing 100+? Sure, that's what makes sports fun. That is to say, unless he sucks. If he sucks then its a problem because sucky players should just be sulking about how much they suck.

MLB Pipeline Top 10 RHP Prospects
Yeah that list clearly values proximity. I would imagine most updated lists would certainly have alvarez top ten and Glasnow/giolito fallen. It also lists Martes as having a good AFL but everything I've read is those that saw him only at AFL walked away unimpressed.

Old Youtube Games
I really hope some more of the 00-05 games fill in on Youtube. I've been trying to find some video of the 2002 (?) or 2003 game where we were facing Blue Jays and Crede hit a 3 run home run to tie and I want to say also a walk off grand slam?

Potential MLB free agent adds
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 02:15 PM) He actually said that? After being cut by the Cubs, that would basically mean he wants to play for the Sox lol On one of the Garfein podcasts I believe it was Chris Kamka who said he knows Hammel and knows he'd like to stay in Chicago. But also, I believe he asked Cubs To not pick up option test FA market.

Potential MLB free agent adds
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) I think they'll do that sort of signing but my guess is jason Hammel, who I believe we've heard wants to stay in Chicago Area anyway. If he doesn't sign with Sox I think he goes to Ms.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 12:51 PM) Luhnow looking more and more like a dumb dog chasing its tail. Not long ago when Luhnow didn't like Hahn's asking price for Q, he moved on to Duffy/Ventura and then a few weeks later back in discussions for Q again. Now they supposedly have their eye on Gray, lol. Go ahead Luhnow, trade for anyone of Duffy/Ventura/Gray and add them to the problematic pitchers you already have. Feel free to call the Sox when you give up on childish bluffs and your balls drop which will allow you to pony up for the best available SP on the trade market. Luhnow is only an idiot if he doesn't end up with Q. As it stands he is just a GM trying to get a great piece at his price, notice that no other team has yet so outbid HOU that they are out.

Feels like people take these rumors personally. Why wouldn't the Astros monitor the Gray situation? If you could get him for .50 on the dollar wouldn't you call?
