  1. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) Exactly MLB pitchers will be more aggressive with him because he is not a power threat. He still will post solid ratio's of BB/K Newman won't headline any Quintana deal. He would be a third piece So they'll throw him more stuff in the strike zone where his 60 hit tool can make solid contact? Sounds good.
  2. dreamy dream of dreams: Brett Lawrie for Trayce Thompson
  3. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 12:05 PM) Some of you guys seem to be at your wits end with this Quintana round-and-round and I am right there with you, but man be thankful were not Twins fans going through this nightmare with the Dodgers for weeks and weeks. Twins leaked out that they were accepting "final offers" last week, shows how well fake deadlines work.
  4. Where are we getting he's a heavy GB% hitter? Are there any stats actually showing that?
  5. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) Eaton was a much better hitter in the minors, but I agree I'll definitely take an infield version of him. Hell, I'll take a poor man's. Part of that may have been the leagues Eaton was playing in (pcl, etc) but yes Eaton had great slugging numbers in minors. I mentioned Melky, though, and he isn't far off. Melky slugged a bit higher but pretty similar.
  6. QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) My opinion on "fair" value from the suitors. NYY: Frazier, Andujar, Kaprellian. Torres deal: Torres, Rutherford, Adams, Kyle Holder HOU: Martes, Tucker, Stubbs, Ferrell PIT: Meadows, Hayes, Diaz Not sure if I'm way off base or not, but these make sense to me. My own feelings
  7. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 10:47 AM) Obama had the ultimate X factor. He was black. If HRC was black, she would have won. Yes, I'm admitting this. Black women politicians are so successful at winning elections. The black women caucus is huge.
  8. Also if the white sox asked for the exact same Andrew miller package they could get it. This board as a whole in these negotiations treats prospects in the 50-200 range as equal value and also basically worthless ("throw-ins") in the deal.
  9. It benefits none of they buying GMs to act like they are offering their top prospects. Hahn is playing this correctly. I'm also fine with it going to deadline now, I do think we'll do just as good if not better mainly because I am 100% confident Quintana will be awesome. And now that everyone knows to look for Quintana, it will only serve him more. But what I can't stand is this will hang over me for a few more months. I need closure! Naw nevermind it's still kind of fun when all of the possibilities are out there.
  10. If Myles Garrett gets to the bears, Myles Garrett goes to the bears.
  11. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) Thats why I think the Padres or A's would be the favorites, they both have a hard time acquiring ML talent and getting six years of control of a quality player can be worth the upfront expense. The problem they both have is that they operate under budget constraints and may not have the room left in their budgets. Padres major league expenses have to be so low right now that they should have room.
  12. So to summarize: Sox would be a likely destination if he is cleared after 6/15 Sox would be an unlikely destination before 6/15. Optimistically we have 1.1 million left for 2016. The braves among others could offer, what, 10x that since they are already over cap?
  13. I still think it gets done soon. There are just no deadlines, and none of the teams discussed actually have an alternative, so this happens.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 09:06 AM) I don't understand this stance. What is the Yankees gameplan? They just signed old Matt Holliday to a one-year deal to DH, and dumped $86 million into a closer. Why would a rebuilding team do that? Plus, the thing with the Yankees is they can essentially buy anyone they want at any time in FA. Encarnacion, Harper, Machado, McCutchen, Donaldson... they can have their pick of any of them when they become available. The one thing that almost never becomes available is a top starter like Quintana. Wouldn't it be worth it for them to pay in terms of prospects like Frazier/Torres for Quintana, then just dump money on whatever hitter they want when the time is right? They want to dip below tax for 2018, and part of that will be getting cheap talent from their prospects so they don't pay 80% tax on the high end of every dollar after they get Harper. It would be "worth it" to get Q for them, but also worth it to keep prospects, both achieve that goal but Yanks have no urgency this year to do so.
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 12:22 AM) Could have easily called a offensive pass interference on the last play. Bama should have never gotten themselves in that position though. I thought so at first but the defensive player initiates the contact
  16. QUOTE (beautox @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 10:24 PM) Ryan Theriot part deux His minor league numbers are better than theriot including slugging. Closer to Melkys bat.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 10:08 PM) I just might take that package from the Pirates.. I don't feel comfortable with Martes for some reason from the Astros. Me neither. Yankees were only team I felt good about even the lite packages but I also love Newman. Getting incredible plate coverage like that would be a huge addition. Last year I thought we could overcome our offensive struggles with cheap FA power since we couldn't find OBP. That's was wrong. Love hitting makeup of Newman/Bell.
  18. I'm glad Sox are sticking to guns, I don't mean to sound like I want to wave a white flag. I guess my stance is if our floors on this trade are Glasnow/Keller/Newman/and Hayes or a 4th or Martes/Tucker/Paulino/4th, then I already feel good. We are talking about 4 top ten prospects from the best farms in the game. Few players command that.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 09:52 PM) I was just going off some of the other stuff that said Bell may not be available. Looking at BA's recent rankings, they put Glasnow/Bell/Newman as Pittsburgh's 3/4/5 prospects. I don't think that compares to Boston's package at all. They said they would have put AB ahead of Moncada so the Boston deal was their 2/3/8/30 prospects for sale. 3/4/5 is comparable. OTOH this is a bad way to evaluate trades.
  20. Rose is okay according to Noah. Good news. Especially that it's not bulls headache.
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 09:21 PM) If I weren't certain it was the first one I wouldn't have posted it. Of course I hope the dude is ok. I have to say, what pissed me off was your number 3 and I realized after you meant it in orgy sense
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 09:12 PM) He got benched in the 4th the other night. Three options: - he's sulking and being a baby - he's dead - he's gang banging Shall we start a poll? Grow up man
  23. Guys if Meadows was already on the table Q would be a pirate.
  24. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 08:11 PM) 3 prospects, but no Meadows? Ehhhh. I could only imagine Glasnow, Bell and Newman would be the offer in that case. But if we're only taking three, I want Meadows. The tweet is great because it is nothing remarkable. Sox want Meadows? Pirates are offering prospects? We knew none of this! Edit: not criticizing rumbunter just not going to get in a tizzy over the info which largely boils down to "pirates interested in Q"
