If you were around for 2008, the biggest campaign discussions were around health care reform, winding down Iraq/Afghanistan wars, OBL and expiring the bush tax cuts eventually the economy died and that became the thing, . All of that happened. The two big things that didn't were guantanimo and immigration reform - and even then you had dream act. You had a whole bunch of stuff passed under the Pelosi house of 08-10 that never got past senate while it was backlogged on healthcare reform. The US is paying for a wall, not Mexico. He already broke a core promise.

Ken Rosenthal: Trade Deadline Will be Insane
QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 12:10 PM) Why will the offense be worse? Eaton? You know Eaton wasn't even the best hitting outfielder the Sox had last year, right? Well, he was virtually the same to Cabrera, but regardless, you are comparing Eaton to Garcia/LIriano, not Cabrera. Our offense was really bad last year, including getting on base. We lost a .360 obp guy. We are replacing him with Avi garcia.

Ken Rosenthal: Trade Deadline Will be Insane
Robertson is honestly one of the more interesting players we have. My gut feel would be to say that Robertson fatigues easily, when you watch him start off dominantly in April then wear down. But Dick Allen posted that his worst games were all on 3-4 days rest.

Keith Law Top 100
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 02:20 PM) Do they though? Their lineup is probably than the Sox. Vogt/Phegley, Khris Davis, Rajai Davis, Matt Joyce, Jed Lowrie, Semien, Plouffe, Healy is better than Sox lineup I think. Pitching staff has Gray/Graveman/Manaea. They aren't good. Not "definitely" worse than Sox though Plus I feel like oakland will pick up a few more FAs searching for teams.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 04:01 PM) I don't even need the predictions threads. If you're willing to bet that the garbage over 30's vets inundating the Sox roster will GAIN value by the deadline then you're betting on some massive performances. It's a pretty easy case that Melky/Frazier gain value at the deadline compared to right now.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 07:09 AM) Rondo didn't flunk out Sacramento. He played 72 games and led the league in dimes and then signed a free agency contract in the offseason. His team scored more points with him on the bench. They didn't and were not open to trying to retain him. http://www.sactownroyalty.com/2016/7/1/120...ign-rajon-rondo He wasn't good. As you can see from watching him now play up close, he will pass up free layups to kick it out to bobby portis covered at the three point line. His stats are empty.

Right, it's basically just leading into Trump will use our civic norms when it suits him and discard them when it annoys him.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 12:00 PM) I do think it worth noting that presumptive nominee Senator Gillibrand is the only one so far to have voted against every one of these disasters. I think she actually voted for Haley but I don't have a problem with that. She leads my 2020 list now.

I don't think it's so much soxfest as announcement, it's that for more than just the sox, end of january is the end of offseason. There is a lot of prep for spring training after that, college and high school will start soon. Not saying they can't walk and chew gum, but this would be a big trade and at some point teams will just assume they can't bridge the gap and turn away.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 10:15 AM) Exactly. Eisner winning a grand slam would be a nice story but don't see it happening. Also Isner isn't exactly a joy to watch. I usually still just root for Donald Young and don't have many options outside that. Not that I root against Isner.

Which player will outperform expectations ?
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) True, but I would expect Moncada to basically play every day at 2B from about June/July through the rest of the remainder of the season. Frazier may or may not get traded in June/July (they could hold onto him and possibly get a comp pick) and even then, they may give playing time to someone like Davidson or Delmonico if either is hitting in the minors. Yeah I see that, but I also think that Frazier will move at some point when a contender has a disappointing player or injury.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 10:17 AM) I'm no expert but I do read a little about ISIS and Islamic terrorism. I'm pretty sure Iran is fairly low on the list of countries you have to worry about. I bet France is more dangerous in that regard. Banning them is strictly a f*** you foreign policy move. They prefer to just fund others to do it. That's snark, but I'd be surprised if most here did not have Iranian-American contacts and friends. I wouldn't want a country without them.

Also let me predict the future: Kris Kobach and Hans von Spakovsky will be appointed to help run the voter fraud claims.

Also back to calling today, I've called Rauner's office three times in my life and they are the only one to never ask for my address and name. Kinda weird. Not sure if that's a governor thing as I never called Quinn as much as scream into the void.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 09:29 AM) Could also be a way to say they didn't do complete obstructionism, but only voted against the particularly bad ones. Then it also highlights to the voting populace how bad DeVos, Tillerson, etc. are. The thing is, the republicans will sell "obstruction" against dems no matter what, they may as well actually, you know, obstruct.

Saladino. Barring back injury being a forever thing, the guy has surpassed expectations at each turn.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 09:24 AM) Look, you have to give up something to get a stud like big game James. Their immediate gratification way of running development really bit them here. Regardless of if he makes it, would be a nice piece to have for selling later.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 09:21 AM) Do the same for devos Dude, I told them all of them. I didn't want one, and the only one you could sell me on was Mnuchin because I thought his confirmation hearing was fine. But Sessions leading DOJ with a fake voter fraud inquiry? Ugh.
