President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 04:54 PM) This part I get. But that isn't my question. What are the actual rules here? Chaffetz contends that because Sessions was a senator it is not perjury due to some rule.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 04:10 PM) He is clearly mocking them. Though I will ask this much. What are the ACTUAL rules here? I ask because a few months ago when PBS was doing the 16 for 16 series, one of the bits of interest in the Gary Hart feature was that he spent a lot of time meeting with Soviet officials during the election cycle, including conducting talks about nuclear missile reductions on his own. I think it will be hard to prove illegality here. I think the moral issue is whether a candidate for president was working with a foreign service to collude a hacking on an opponent, if not the hacking, then the releasing of the hacking information for maximum damage. If that ends up having happened, that is ... very bad! I don't think that should be done! Now, is it just a lot of marginalized washington players found themselves to the marginalized campaign, and were marginalized so they found their money by going to a thuggish tyrant, and then kept that influence while still on the campaign? This is very likely what happened. But - it gets harder to give credit when that country was also very involved in an election activity and also they keep lying about any contacts.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
Overall, some things have been reassuringly resilient (Judicial branch, congressional pressure - as in pressure applied to congress from citizens). But, I remain very concerned over how scary it will be when a non self inflicted crisis happens. And also very nervous about how big of a hit the tourism industry will see from all of this.

White Sox Request Waivers on Lawrie
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 02:05 PM) At 1 WAR technically he was a ~2 WAR upgrade, considering we were at -1.1 WAR out of our 2B in 2015, which was dead last in the MLB. Yeah, but the most disappointing thing to me about our 2015-2016 teams was the solution of putting below replacement level talent with marginally above replacement level talent and thinking it would equal 15 additional wins.

White Sox Request Waivers on Lawrie
Regardless of what we gave up, our FO targeted Lawrie as an upgrade. If you weren't a fan of the upgrade it's still fair to criticize.

White Sox Request Waivers on Lawrie
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 12:50 PM) I highly doubt we're the only team. Plus, I don't think Viciedo even made it to spring training. We're certainly not the only team. I just don't like when it's done.

David Price Reports are Surgery NOT needed..
QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 11:47 AM) Boston does seem to have a pretty good track record of top prospects panning out though. Debatable, they just have had an enviable amount of them.

White Sox Request Waivers on Lawrie
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 12:42 PM) What was the huge loss for Lawrie? Lawrie was one acquisition that actually gave us exactly what you'd expect. An injury shortened .250/310/.720 slashline with fine defense.

White Sox Request Waivers on Lawrie
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) Most likely. They probably would have non tendered him IMO had they thought Frazier would still be here. I think he was the plan at 3B. Right, I think they thought he'd be our 3rd baseman to start year. That said, I don't like the look of twice having picked up the option on players then released them in spring training when it's less likely they can find an ML role, aside from the cash issues. I know Lawrie has an injury again, still wish it didn't work out this way.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 11:54 AM) The Warriors cut Jose Calderon 2 hours after signing him to make room for Matt Barnes. Calderon collects $415,000 for his troubles. It's unclear if Jose Calderon is a person at this point or just dreamed up in Goldman Sachs as a financial instrument

2017 NFL off season thread
QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 04:25 PM) Would you? I am not sure if I would be mad about that. They address the QB position and take a safety. I would be fine with it if they sincerely have Jimmy G tabbed as the next best thing. Far and away better than any QB they could draft. With Jimmy you are immediately paying market rate for a QB. You give up your #3 pick. If we gave up a 2 and a future something for him, maybe. Not giving up a #3 pick for Garappolo and essentially a 2nd rounder.

2017 International Signings
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 03:35 PM) I meant from a standpoint where they were never able to sign a bunch of the top talent in one signing period freely. This would have been the year for it with so many teams capped at only $300k signings. Yeah, I'm not giving them credit. I fully expected them to do this last year, after the cubs/dodgers/red sox had removed themselves. Hahn hinted they would focus on J2 at soxfest and prior. Then it came out a few weeks later we were basically tied to nobody. They didn't.
