QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 10:52 AM) Right, but The Suburbs certainly deserved it. It was a good album, I'd have given it to Fame Monster.
  2. That was also the best catching question I've seen thrown at Hahn, great interview by Ballantini.
  3. I'll believe it when I see more than letters of concern. Like, I don't know, voting against something.
  4. That last paragraph is GREAT. Highly recommend reading that

I mean look at this garbage list. They have actually made a concerted effort to be more relevant, I think prompted by that Allison Krauss/Plant AOTY. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy_Award_...bum_of_the_Year It sticks out like a sore thumb when they actually get a relevant album, though recently the pop tastes have aligned a lot more than they used to in music.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 10:38 AM) The only exception that I can think of is when Arcade Fire won several years back, and that pissed off a bunch of people who didn't know who they were. Yeah, it did debut at #1 though in US/Canada/UK, it pushed quite a few records.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 01:29 AM) Let me know how many records Chance has sold. He won album/record of the year? No? Okay bye.
  8. Subscribing to the WaPo was best thing I've done. Makes the tribune subscription all the more disappointing. Really find the tribune corp (la times/trib/etc) to be pretty subpar, but mainly you can just tell everyone is stretched so thin.
  9. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 07:03 PM) May have just been 5-10 rights. It was. The Braves honoring a subset of that is likely why he accepted.
  10. Luckily there are laws against that.
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) Conservatives Take A Hard Line On Obamacare Repeal, Putting GOP In A Bind tl;dr the House Freedom Caucus is demanding basically a full repeal of Obamacare with little replacement. That action, which would include removing the Medicaid expansion, is DOA in the Senate unless they blow up the entire filibuster and even then there's a possibility it couldn't pass there and in the House. I really doubt that Collins, Alexander and Paul will all go along with that in Senate, and would bet that it would not even pass the house.
  12. This article from WaPo is pretty amazing/crazy: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/uph...m=.602ac0c9c74f The effect of cable news coverage/SNL on the president is so crazy, but crazier are the stories of aides shuffling around personalities trying to gain favor. While Trump himself seems to be set to chaos mode all the time, it is more than a little worrying what this looks like in an actual crisis. Sure, he can fight back against narratives when it seems he's sinking, but what happens when a part of the country is about to go under water. What do we get then.
  13. I'm not sure I'd put Mnuchin as a tier 1 threat. His confirmation hearings actually showed a stable, well-informed person, which stood out like crazy. More, he just seems like standard Republican fare. That's not to say that can't have huge consequences, we've seen that, but when you are sitting next to the clown car of serial domestic abusers, ethics violators and idiots, standard fodder seems like a huge improvement.
  14. I hope it's Harward.
  15. Good. I hope someone serious about the job can take his place. And it's investigated. Flynn was among the scariest brought to a high position, also probably the stupidest.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 03:52 PM) I have no idea how much Herm has replicated himself, but at least with Cooper we know that he has created a lot of other pitching coaches through the minors, and even a guy like Nieves. Great point.
  17. It kind of scares me that the process is so personal. Basically, when Herm goes, we lose this. It's just people trusting him and him being organized and responsible. That's an incredible heap of praise, but you'd like something a bit more institutional. It kind of seems the same with Coop. He just seems to have a great eye/emphasis on getting pitchers out when their mechanics get out of whack.
  18. Good god, I was about to be a little relieved to go from Flynn to Petraeus, a man who legitimately compromised the states secrets for his mistress, only to find out that this ridiculous man can lie to the public about something as big as thsi with zero repercussions.
  19. As a fan it's kind of hard to know what to make of injury concerns like that anyway. If it means he can't stay past the 5th inning, then okay, move to pen. If they are like tim lincecum, I mean, ride it and hope they don't get injured. But what are you supposed to do with a probability like that?
  20. It's an interesting list, but I wonder how many actual GMs would trade Moncada straight up for JP Crawford.
  21. I feel like very rarely do we hear of trades that move into the stalemate category move back into the "close to done". This article made sense, I'm buying it. Easier to give up prospects for relievers when you know you have a contender, know basically what the reliever will do, and know that playoff wins are valued highly. Harder with Robertson now, where we don't have much certainty what he is. I like that Kieboom trade but I'm fine with waiting. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/david-rober...ver-volatility/
  22. It's also not what the ruling said. Pushing the idea that the branch was legislating for them is equally dangerous. The ruling was largely that they were incompetent, and if they are going to claim national security it needs to be reviewable in some fashion.
  23. Watching Hoiberg I'm gaining respect for VDN, who was horrible at managing timeouts, but his teams largely looked like a real offense in two different stops.
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 06:29 AM) Trump discussed matters of national security regarding North Korea this weekend in front of civilians at Mar A Lago. Must be more of these great things Brett was talking about While I will generally push back against the "save your energy for the important things" takes, this is one of those things that should really be taken seriously and pushed back on in a sustained and universal way. But I think this one requires universal dem official action vs. organic/grassroots stuff.

If you want to know who will win album of the year or record of the year just look at the sales. This isn't new. Grammys cares about selling records, the Oscars has a similar incentive sometimes, but largely swerves for more prestige (see Hurt Locker over Avatar). I get people find the show of it more interesting, but I swear I've run into better performances randomly on AMA than Grammys which , as has been said, is full of awful medley and duo ideas.
