QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 09:33 AM) He's doing a speed-run of the Nixon Presidency Nixon accomplished so much more, and with an opposition congress/senate.

A farm-focused Spring Training preview - 7 storylines

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 09:25 AM) I mean, he definitely improved in 2016 at AAA. And it wasn't just luck, there were actual changes he made in approach that led to them. I talked with him about them last year. That said, even with the improvements he was still striking out about 26% of the time, in his 3rd/4th go-around at AAA. I'm a skeptic, I think he will swing and miss too much to stick around in the majors for long. He won't make enough contact for the power to play. And he won't draw as many walks when no one is afraid to throw him good strikes. I hope I'm wrong though! Yeah, Hayes was talking up this offseason though too based off of the hitting camp in early Jan. Started to get pumped up. Unlikely, but we deserve our own unlikely story. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 09:20 AM) Well it jives with having two deals die at the ownership level. Yes I know, but let me cry in my coffee in peace. -
Oh I thought SoxPride was volunteering. Someone volunteer. We'll endorse you for banner making skill on Linkedin.

What we're seeing is fairly predictable in what happens when you go from campaigning to governing and people don't have the other candidate to try and balance out their coverage. But that said, this is all moving a lot faster than I thought. I did think he'd have a grace period, and I did think he'd buy press with a bunch of Carrier type deals. But, that really does just seem to be a fluke done by the fact that Pence was governor. Trump went his whole life thinking merely being the center of attention would provide power and people would have to pay attention and respect him if he's President. Now he's President and realizing that it's an actual job that gains respect by recipricating, and showing a seriousness of the position. Going to be a long, long few years.

I don't really enjoy hearing news like that, too painful. Oh we ALMOST had something nice happen but it didn't? Cool. -

Nice NS. How much of a storyline for you is the fluff around Davidson's bat? Do you buy it at all? -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 06:35 AM) Thanks for posting! This list shows me our Latin American operations still need a ton of work. Tatis would have cracked the top 20, but it's a bit scary that no one else did. Marco Paddy's early returns have been pretty poor. Really need one of Adolfo or Nunez to break out next year. But yes, this is disappointing to see only one of those returns on the top 30. I knew it would take years to get our academy up and running, but still disappointed we did not commit to heavy spending in 2014 or 2015 in the INTL market after we knew we were trying to accelerate and would need to fill out the farm from elsewhere.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 07:32 AM) Up through about 17, very similar to the FS list. We didn't consider Narvaez eligible for ours. Nice to see someone stake Schnurbusch like that. I had him at 28 on my personal T30 but he ended up just outside our list in the end. Funny that I was higher than most on him when I had written an article tempering expectations on him specifically, but I do think there's something there. Bummer is a guy we knew a couple years ago had intrigue, but I am surprised at the helium he's been getting this spring. Sox gave him an NRI, one of the other lists mentioned him as an also-ran, and now this high on BA's list. Hard for me to justify that kind of ranking for him with him missing that much time and having two different elbow surgeries, but he could definitely make a big leap this year if he's 100% healthy. Considering the lack of body of work, I"m guessing the Bummer stuff is coming almost exclusively from Sox own scouts. He will be a very interesting Spring follow.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 04:26 PM) Here's the thought that, sometimes literally, keeps me up at night. Trump is at the very least incredibly self-involved, and very possible an actual narcissist. He thinks he can go into office and make sweeping changes to fix everything. As everyone who has known him that isn't in his inner circle has explained, he has a real need for adoration. He goes into office on a high, and quickly realizes that he can't get much actually done. He gets bored (which we are already hearing), and frustrated (see: Twitter). He's an executive and a control freak, so he looks for what he actually can control. What can the President do, pretty much unfettered by other branches of government? Military action. Not an all-out war, but a quick action that falls under his CinC authorities. I would bet a small fortune that he's mentally scanning the world right now for an excuse to swing the bat with that big military, in order to look tough and in control without having to deal with that messy thing called running a Republic. Literally, he's looking for a reason to kill a bunch of people in order to soothe his enormous and wounded ego. What if he chooses Iran? Or North Korea? And what spiral into a world war occurs when he does it? Yes, military action under Trump has been my biggest fear all along. I hoped he would be disinterested. I think Mattis is probably the best in his admin, but still think odds of war with Iran are very high.

I'm skeptical of this report, not because I don't think it's true, but because of how often NYT went out with raw unconfirmed details in the election with the FBI and Clinton (and had to walk back).
-
NYT has updated its story about how the FBI had interviewed Flynn in the first few days, to now say those investigators do not believe he was "entirely forthcoming" https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/02/14/us/po...t.co/mHDa9igK6v While this is interesting, I'm not sure what this democracy looks like with this FBI that leaks out all details of ongoing investigations.
-
Congrats man, well done.
-
Hallie Jackson is reporting VP did not know of Flynn's lies until last Thursday, the day before the WaPo article. Sounds organized.
-
I'm not sure it lasts into June, but for now meh. I'm in.

Great work.

I am bizarrely locked in. Never had a year like this, the novelty of following development + a great farm system.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 02:14 PM) lol, Puzder isnt gonna get in after they confirmed all of the other yahoos. What skeleton is really in that mans closet? Oprah, basically.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) You know, a major dam is failing in California and there has not been one word from that administration. Not one. This is a moment when they should be out front, trying to ease concern of displaced US citizens, promising emergency disaster relief, help from national guard and army corps of engineers if needed, and we get silence. Spicer instead goes out and makes the lies even worse by creating contradictions from previous statements because YOLO FEMA looks like it is doing a good job coordinating federally, thankfully. I wonder if Fugate is still in charge.

Good for Chaffetz.

I bet Wieters signs for more than we expect.

It's just scary for the biggest reason, at some point something terrible will happen. Their tactic of just lying like crazy to get out of a bad news cycle will come home to roost when people can't trust them for vital information.

Alex Reyes fails physical, might need surgery

QUOTE (pablo @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 12:57 PM) Agreed, makes more sense to re-evaluate at this point. Plus they have Wacha who was going to battle Reyes for this 5th spot in ST. They have 6 guys off the top of my head currently. Sign a cheap FA (not sure who is left) and see what you have in a couple of months. Martinez Waino Leake Lynn Wacha Weaver Yeah you may as well roll with that and hope for health. That's not a bad rotation but it's hard to know since everyone in NL has an ERA under 3.8 it seems like. -
QUOTE (MEANS @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 12:04 PM) Yes, he won, so your counter doesn't make sense. His point is that he doesn't sell his music, he gives it away for free and is not on any label. Adele won album of year and record of year, my whole post was about album of the year and record of the year that he responded to. Chance was not even nominated for either.
