QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 04:35 PM) Just think of how different things would be if the Bulls were able to move up and get Wade. I mean we never know cause Rose clearly doesn't end up on the Bulls, but still. Some interesting reports today(no idea if they are true) about Gar having more clout with Michael Reinsdorf then Paxson and that Paxson is driving the blow it up movement but can't get any traction. One of the radio guys said that he doesn't even know if Paxson would be aware of the Celtics offering 2 1st round picks (which seems ridiculous). I still generally believe that Paxson is a very good front office guy, although, I clearly can't ignore the fact that this chaos has happened under his watch. Part of being a good front office guy is being able to handle the organization politics and get the org moving as one. I can't give him partial credit.

Bulls had the misfortune of picking high in some historically awful drafts, but overall as you look back, Krause did about as good a job as you can of collecting valuable assets, he just could not swing them for a star. Ended up with jalen rose.
-
If we cryogenically froze Jimmy for 3 years and tanked I could support that plan. Unsure how long it would take for his eyes to get back though.
-
Just a few years ago we were talking about how awful it was to be a top 3 seed every year and leave the playoffs. nope, this is worse. So much worse.
-
Yes, I hope Taj gets to the playoffs and gets some good moments. Great player to root for.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 01:56 PM) Taj Gibson turns 32 soon. Who the f*** expected any value for him? He had been expendable as an asset for quite some time though. Remember how we couldn't dare part with Tajy for Melo. That we got him for two unsuccessful years and then trade him for back roster fodder is just such a great example of the mismanagement and lack of creativity of this awful front office.
-
LOL. Can't wait for Portis to show off how expendable he is.
-
The thing that kills me is unlike with the White Sox where you know you could get pretty good value for a Sale etc at any time, there really aren't many times where a team with the celts assets will be there. Especially in a draft year like this. Oh well, when you complain about how terrible the Bulls FO is, hard to be surprised when they make more stupid decisions. Their legacy was cemented at last years deadline claiming Pau Gasol was part of their core.
-
The thing is the Bulls are probably going to make the playoffs so that's all they care about.
-
Fully expect to hear after moveless deadline passed: Niko is part of our core

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 01:27 PM) I would think the Bulls would have interest in something like that for Butler (slightly different package) but something around that skeleton. No we are a patrick beverly away from a title.

People actually complain about the length of football games a lot, and especially the excessive commercial breaks. College football gets this even more, the recent NCAA championship ended after midnight east coast time.

pretty great stuff here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/virgin...m=.3e876bd4b173 The gall to accept a townhall invite in Arizona before a townhall in your district.

I'm going to go to bat for this change. The reality while a lot of IBBs happen ahead of pitchers, they also happen a lot in interesting innings where there are potential scoring runs. When people are on edge of their seat, they then have to sit there and watch 4 practice pitches for a formality to get to the action. It's boring. It may not shave down time, but I think Manfreds larger goal is to reduce the "downtime" in the game. I've watched Sox games for 30 years, never seen a hit on an IBB attempt. That we all can easily name a few shows how rare they were. But every time I had to sit through an IBB was like waiting for a page to load. Glad it's gone.

Did Sale's velocity drop or something?

Avi seems like one of those "uppercut swing revival" players except he also doesn't have much of an approach at the plate or discipline so I mostly think he will just be not that good.

QUOTE (GermanSock @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 12:10 PM) Actually the hold up on winters was that he is bad defensively and did not hit well enough for a bat first catcher. He's not bad defensively, he's not a good framer. But we would expect this incredible scarcity at catcher we keep talking about to provide him with a very inflated salary. But there are a lot of 1 WAR catchers, and they aren't getting paid out of this world. Look at the catcher stats last year, as bad as that position is, those that truly can't hit are not getting much more than 250 at bats. So sox scouts would need to be confident that Severino gets you at least Matt Wieters bat. Christian Vazquez in an incredible lineup still is pushed to a backup role. I imagine we are overrating to some degree how bad a catcher can be offensively before it doesn't matter how good his defense is.
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 11:49 AM) Sox organization currently does not have a single catcher that is considered plus defensively as far as I know Can you find them? Yes. But it never hurts to have depth I'd fully expect more to be included with Severino Pena
-
If catchers were so valuable for just defense or framing and no big hit tool, we wouldn't see Weiters going for 2 year deals and castro on 8 million AAV. I don't buy that a defense only catcher is so rare that we target that over a pitcher/position player with higher ceilings. If he is our main target, I hope he's Sal Perez behind the plate. Otherwise, I hope we are getting something interesting alongside him.
-
I'm sure Severinos defense is advertised, but, I'm kinda questioning why we are falling over ourselves to get a likely backup catcher.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 09:33 AM) It could be the case. Paddy told Bilek last year that they were in on a big pitcher. They look to be continuing the strategy of signing multiple $1 million guys instead of a big fish. It could also just be that Badler is restricted to info from scouts that have historically been big players in the INTL FA market so could be overhyping players based on their info, but those teams also happen to be the ones that, like, have a lot of developed and performing LatAm players.
-
That is incredibly disappointing. I thought, as with when draft slots were announced, we would end up seeing immediate upgrade in our returns. What's more of what you have up there, half the teams it seems like are restricted to 300k signings. Unless this means we have some secret info that Luis Robert will be posted after 6/15 and have a deal, I'm equally disappointed.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 20, 2017 -> 02:22 PM) Unbelievable of the report out there that practically the same offer that got Cousins was what was going to get Pelicans Okafor. Absurd. Buddy Hield was the only additional item added and in the grand scheme of things, while he was the 6th overall pick, that differential for a player like Cousins (vs. Okafor) is just absurd. I question that report honestly. They may have had a 1st round offered but I'd imagine the protections were much more restrictive. That was a great trade for Cousins, but would have been a pretty awful trade for Okafur.
-
Doesn't this hurt the Bulls in two ways? Protects that elusive SAC pick again, and lowers a possible Butler deal. Bulls wouldn't have to take any deal, but other FO may feel the heat if it's significantly more (why didn't you just pony up for Cousins?)
-
I would take the over on wins for most of the teams mentioned. Reds will be better this year than last, so will Brewers. My sneaky pick for worst team would probably be the Marlins, they are a good candidate for star heavy team that injuries would destroy because they have no depth. Padres though, I'm just talking myself into them being better and good enough to lose 1st overall. AJ Preller doesn't deserve nice things.
