  1. Expected to see Call/Fisher in this list, I guess they maintained your interest even as the system beefed up. Quite a fall for Micker. Really hope he can stay healthy and have a season here.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 09:05 PM) Chance for 3 American women in Semis. Not a fan of Vandeweghe but rooting for her. This happened
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 06:07 PM) Whoever is running that Twitter account right now gives zero f***s https://mobile.twitter.com/BadIandsNPS That's fake. See the I instead of the ole L
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 05:52 PM) With the Cubs defense, Q would be absurd in the NL. Right, and what better pitcher to throw in that stadium than one who avoids HR like the plague.
  5. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) I linked it twice already earlier in the thread (and previously). In CO, when they provided free IUDs across the state, teen pregnancy fell by 42% and abortions fells by 40% statewide. Unmarried women without college degrees, aged 25 and under, saw pregnancy rates fall at a similar rate. This was based on a program, funded by a private grant, that impacted the entire state. The only variable that changed was the access to IUDs. Thus, in this example, free IUDs did correlate to both a lower teen pregnancy rate and a lower abortion rate. And even more amazing considering the moral debasement you would think would happen with the more easily available birth control devices is teens are having less sex than 10 years ago.
  6. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 04:56 PM) You can call Q a 3 on both of those teams but he could easily be the 2 on both teams and the 1 on the Cubs this upcoming year imo. My favorite meathead opinion to throw at cubs fans friends is assertion that Q in NL would be a sub 2 era pitcher. While I dramatize for effect, Q to me has quite a bit of stat improvement if going to NL, to a good defensive team and to a team with better pitch framing.
  7. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 05:09 PM) What are you smoking, Steve? Rockies are not going to do that. No way. I don't think people realize that Dahl is not only already in majors but often is compared with Benintendi as a peer. Top position player + top pitching prospect is Sale deal, no, you aren't also getting a top 10 shortstop.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) Stats for this baseless claim? That's his point.
  9. http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/news/dwyan...oa15vbl08xls6ox Good job, good effort.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) It's not a Soxtalk thing, it's a sports fan thing. Totally. Read twitter response to any article posted.
  11. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) Law is high on younger players it seems. I'm no expert, but I would tend to favor prospects further along in their development in the top 100 until they have proven more in the minor leagues Delvin Perez has talent, but #61 based on his play in rookie ball (admittedly impressive for an 18 year old) is high Law's rankings look smart for picking players that could rise up, but also I'll bet alot of these deep dives are out of the top 100 by mid season due to over projection I think Law was very high on Perez pre draft, so it may be he has no reason to reexamine his priors after a decent performance at that age. STill, top 60 nearly, very high on him.
  12. QUOTE (brett05 @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) Great move, loving this. Saving millions of lives instead of killing them. I assume you were equally as excited about the precipitous drops in teen pregnancy and abortions under Obama.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 10:15 AM) He's an unusual case. Here's what I know on Aaron, including some info he gave me directly... --Drafted 19th round in 2014, but got an out-size bonus --He's got a cannon, throws as hard as 98 mph, but was raw coming in --After a strong pro debut in rookie ball --Had elbow issues, and had a minor surgery to clean out some junk --As he started recovering from that surgery, he had soreness that turned out to be a torn UCL --Tommy John surgery - missed all of 2015 and most of 2016, before sprinting through three levels for 16.2 IP So here's a guy going into his fourth season since being drafted, and he has a total of 38 pro innings. And we really don't know how the surgeries have effected him. So yes, that made me "go hmm", but I can't justify putting him even among the top 50 guys in the system right now. That could change quickly based on how he looks this spring. That's crazy. Would love to know what sort of info comes in on these guys as they recover to push them back into such close watch as big league st.
  14. I spoke with a woman in college who talked about being a nurse pre Roe. Young girls coming in dying of infections from self inflicted or shoddy medical procedures.Always poor, the rich ones were able to find doctors to do it on the hush. That always stuck with me. It's been legal my whole life so the question has always been right or wrong, it doesn't often get to the point where the effects of making it illegal again are discussed. People obviously have strong moral reasons to still be against it and that's fine, but from what I understand much of the movement to legalize it was based on the reality of young women dying or being seriously injured from pushing it to the boundaries.
  15. Does something like Bummer being a non roster ST invite make you guys go hmm at all?
  16. I would wait for some verification. Rumors like this, when its hard to get real news, and it's in a foreign country where you could believe anything, it's easy to escalate it and escalate it. edit: also if anyone was confused from caulfield's post above, that italics is not a quote from the passan article.
  17. My main takeaway is what exactly was Robin doing well to keep coming back?
  18. Chance for 3 American women in Semis. Not a fan of Vandeweghe but rooting for her.
  19. Like watching a smaller guy dunk, there is something fun about watching a pitcher use their whole body and wildly flailing after the pitch.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) Yeah, I mean you really can't argue that he doesn't know his stuff. I don't know, that whole "rationalia" thing or whatever was so stupid.
  21. I am most excited for Pena.
  22. Whoa, missed that Glasnow featured as one of their best starters.
  23. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2017-zips-p...sburgh-pirates/ Not sure if posted yet. Of note, Meadows already projected as a 2 WAR player, Newman as average. Rotation sure would look a lot nicer with a 4 war player, giving them 13 WAR from their staff.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 01:41 PM) The White Sox need to acquire as much talent as is possible. I used this example previously - if a team offers three 60 FV pitchers or three 55 FV bats, you take the pitchers in a heart beat because it is a more valuable package. The White Sox are 2-3 years away from competing as is. Collect all the talent you can. I normally agree with this but I actually think it's wrong. Three 55 FV bats seem to have much higher value on marketplace.
