  1. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) For a top prospect like Glasnow, scouts sure seem pretty split on him. If the Sox' scouts and coaches aren't sold, then he's not much of a headliner. Plain and simple. We're not just going by prospect rankings here. It's entirely possible the Sox just don't like him all that much. If the Sox value him as a top 10 prospect, I suspect a deal would probably be done by now. This was a very good post. I also think like this regarding the Musgrove saga, it's very likely the teams rate Musgrove much higher than the fans who just see another pitcher.
  2. Cleveland is a good talent fit with Bulls but they are at limit, I think any trade would have to be relatively neutral so it will be interesting what pieces they could get rid of and still see an upgrade.
  3. I will be shocked if Rondo can find a home at his cost. Since Boston: - Flunked out of Dallas - Flunked out of Sac - Flunked out of Chicago Oh yeah gimme gimme! Unless you get a bulls pick and have space to just suck it up and cut him, will be hard to find a team.
  4. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 11:53 AM) I dont personally know, but the court does appeal to the 2nd Circuit, which many consider liberal leaning. ( http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/25/us/25sfninth.html ) Per the complaint they filed it in NY because that is where Trump's business holdings are located. I am not a constitutional lawyer, but I am thinking the first line of defense is going to be "standing." Oh, duh, sorry I thought this was over his post office hotel in Wash DC, I just lumped them together and didn't look.
  5. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 11:16 AM) I dont think the case will win, but I am not sure that is the point. If they can get it to discovery, then they may be able to force Trump to turn over some documents. Or it could be merely just to create negative press. Either way this is exactly why every other President didnt pull this stunt. Do you know anything about that court and reputation? Any reason to go that district?
  6. I don't really think much will come out of judicial action, unless if unfavorable it is used to spur congressional overview. But it seems so unlikely that this congress would ever do that.
  7. If anyone was wondering JB Shucks stint as pitcher put him at the top of called strike probability with near 60%. ERA of 9
  8. I thought I'd make a post for those who want to discuss. Lots of baseball writers have been dsicussing this this morning: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=31022 Worth the read, and also helpful was The Ringer's MLB podcast discussing this with BP, but they are introducing two ways of trying to understand a pitchers command vs. control. For command they are using a framework similar to pitch framing, showing which pitchers are more likely to get a strike called. Control I have to say I keep reading it over and over and I think I'm misunderstanding it. There are some helpful graphics though showing the zones of the strike zone and beyond and what percentage of pitches landing there are called strikes. But these zones change per type of batter and umpire. It then is using Called Strike probability to show what the likelihood is their pitches will be a strike. Bartolo Colon leads the league in this. No sox were mentioned in their top tens. I hope to look through and see how our pitchers did, especially knowing our poor framing. Anyway don't read above as a complete rundown of the article, it is more me trying to write my thoughts on how I understand it. If I am missing a piece or there are more interesting parts please add.
  9. Are there betting markets where people put odds on whether Rubio will make a decision requiring integrity so I can always bet against it?
  10. Yeah I liked his Garfein interview. I do think that AFL stint matters a lot though to what we'll see in pre-season rankings. But I choose to be optimistic that pilates will cure all.
  11. Also what's funny is whining about the ranking when it's largely a very positive write-up.
  12. Law's rankings vary a lot from places like BA so I wouldn't make any judgments. I know he scouted Collins at AFL, and we are being sold that he looked so stiff behind plate because of how tired he was from his longest season ever. I wouldn't be surprised if Hansen is in next group but even if he's not, the guy had crazy success in a very short time after a middling college season. In his chats we know he thinks highly of him so it's nothing to be too upset about, if Hansen is the real deal he'll prove it soon.
  13. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 08:30 PM) The NFL seriously sucks. It really does.
  14. It is completely as far fetched as it sounds.
  15. The MLB wouldn't have to throw money at educating their own players, they could spend it on lobbying for stricter drunk driving laws or enforcement in DR. They could also just donate money to create more hospitals with helicopters for air evacuations to cut down deaths from injuries. If MLB believes deaths like these are hurting their product, no different than lobbying by insurance industries and alcohol industries in US.
  16. Moreno said completely diff crashes. Both under influence. Ugh.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 10:06 AM) Weird, article I read about Marte said he was alone, will keep the title updated http://www.sbnation.com/2017/1/22/14350236...inican-republic Would be so bizarre if they collided with each other. All premature deaths are sad, but pulls a little harder when it's these players from DR/Cuba that made it from nothing.
  18. Was only 25. https://twitter.com/CristianMorenoD/status/...196072738693120
  19. It's just so predictable what will set him off.
  20. Bad day to choose to stand up that this bulls team plays enjoyable basketball.
  21. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 02:46 PM) I agree with it, it's incentive to own something versus renting it. Owning property is a mass undertaking...and its helpful to communities and the stability of neighborhoods...I absolutely think it should be incentivized over renting. But it perversely incentivizes leverage, and it's biggest winners are upper middle class, who can already afford a home. If you want to incentivize first time home ownership there are better ways. But, whatever, not the biggest deal in housing policy world anyway. It's largely popular, if people want it, whatever.
  22. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 02:47 PM) Isn't this crap worse for you than a rebuild? I'm not going to argue the Jimmy trade stuff with anyone anymore as everyone knows where I stand on that but years like this and last to me are so much worse than a rebuild. And once again, not speaking for anyone else here but personally I'd much rather take time in a rebuild than sit around the middle of the conference(if we do go for it and get back to that point) since you're never going to be able to luck yourself into a championship in basketball like you can in baseball. Ha, I understand where you are coming from but no this isn't as bad. I love watching bulls when winter is slow and truly terrible basketball just sucks to watch. Like, those years where Ron Mercer was our best player...I just can't. And funny thing going back to looking at those 98-03 years, they actually acquired a lot of assets, which you'd like. They largely drafted well. But it takes so long to become a competitive team when you start from zero, and unlike Baseball, there is no watching the minors. Unlike football, there is no quick turnaround. But yeah, I get this isn't a good place to be but honestly would be fine just being a Raptors level team, which I think we could build around Jimmy. Core i'd build around: Jimmy, McDermott, Felicio, Grant. Lopez in a way because he's fine, I kinda like him now. Get rid of: Gibson (who is the only actual good player on this list), Rondo, Mirotic, See if Portis can become an actual 4, stop trying him at 5. He's probably bad. And then just place all of your trust in Zipser.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 02:39 PM) I am plenty calm. Just sick of reading your same BS over and over and over again. #1) This is complete and total conjecture. Reed is no longer a prospect, but if he were, he would be in their top 3. This guy was the #2 prospect behind Bregman 12 months ago and a top 20 guy in the whole game. Sure, he had a brutal cup of coffee in the majors, but his value is not nearly as far in the s***ter as you make it out to be. And again - you're making the giant leaps of assumption. "Paulino + 2 is about equal to Reed and Fischer". How can you make that determination when you have zero clue what the +2 is? They could be 19 year old rookie ballers for all we know, and since the names weren't reported, it is far safer to assume they are closer to a throw in then a top 100 prospect. #2) An extra year of control is a pretty big deal. A year ago, someone would have laughed at you had you said Q was more valuable that Archer. Archer is 5 years younger, he is cheaper, and controlled longer. These are meaningful facts. #3) I never said Tucker, Reed, Fischer, and Martes beats the Sale deal. I said it "rivals" the Sale deal, and beats the Eaton deal. #4) LOL. Moncada is a far better prospect than Tucker, but the rest of the deal after those two this made up Astros package is far better. Kopech is maybe a tad better prospect that Martes, but certainyl not ">>". These guys were just ranked #4 and #5 respectively on the updated RHP top 10. ITs close to a wash, and while Kopech maybe has a higher upside, Martes is a safer bet and closer to the bigs. And you Basabe = Reed comparison made me laugh. Thanks for that. ?
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 02:34 PM) Abreu also Seems like all of the spanish-speaking players are there together on Friday and not much after. They may have requested it. Wouldn't read much into that.
