  1. We gonna get our rumbunter on again? https://twitter.com/rumbunter/status/818638418213224449
  2. So basically the article is showalter saying they want another LH hitter but then the reporter showing how terrible they were vs LH pitching  But either way Melky is a switch hitter, does not strike out much (which showalter mentiones) and is a terrible fit in basically every other way.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 04:01 PM) I'm confused. If it says they are seeking another left-handed bat, why are you showing his stats vs Left handed pitching? Actually I'm confused too, the artilce is talking about negating all of the top LH pitching with sale/price, etc.
  4. Ridiculous idea that for money reasons isn't a fit at all...on the other hand: http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles...0109-story.html "Orioles manager Buck Showalter still seeking another left-handed bat in outfield" Melky vs LH .322 .352 .496 .847
  5. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 03:51 PM) Is Kopech really that far away? I was under the assumption that he would be in Chicago some time in 2018. He may, but he's still going to have significant innings limits on that point. He is 20 and has never pitched above 65 innings.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 03:45 PM) That's why I said I'll take one pitcher back, but I am hesitant on that because the logjam is building. If you take back a top prospect as the 2nd guy also, even if he's way down in A-ball, then you're counting on something bad to happen to several of them by 2019 and that's not a very good use of resources. Come on, since the only benchmark we have is cubs on this board, that's like saying drafting Schwarber was just counting on failure of their hitting prospects. You get talent because they are talented.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 03:34 PM) I would say Kopech has that 5th spot by the end of 2018, but even if he doesn't, you've forgotten Carson Fulmer. You're fully correct that it isn't guaranteed that they will develop into MLB pitchers, but you are missing how we will actually know that - it will require big league innings. If they do not get big league innings then they will not develop into good MLB pitchers. That's where the limits come from. Yes, a couple of those guys could flop, but they're not going to flop against AAA hitters, and even if they do you're still going to move them up and challenge them eventually. I think it's the kopech part that I disagree with mostly. Kopech is legit two years away just getting arm strength up. He just hasn't pitched much. So if he is up toward end of 2018 bullpen sounds pretty real regardless. Dunning is A ball. And Lopez/Fulmer have legitimate starter or bullpen? questions that we would have 2 years to answer then. And potential TJS. If we acquired 4 position player prospects i'd be happy but I don't think we are screwed with pitcher spots yet, not with the likelihood a few are in a ball and we know how big the AA jump is.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 03:24 PM) When everyone but Kopech has already had stints at least in AAA and the big leagues? High. Every one of those guys will be arriving in the big leagues by the end of 2018 unless they go down for a full season with an injury, and one thing we both have confidence in this organization doing is avoiding TJS. These aren't guys starting off at A-ball. These are guys who are going to get a stint in the big leagues by 2018 even if they have poor starts to 2017. Rodon, Fulmer, Giolito, and Turner will be in your rotation early in the 2018 season at the latest, and Kopech most likely by the end of the year, if not to start 2019. Glasnow will be in a big league rotation on opening day of this year. Lopez?
  9. It is just so ridiculous they are pushing these nominees prior to the OGE report.
  10. Discussion fodder: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/213069958/po...-jose-quintana/ edit: don't be mad at me when you get to the end and wonder why the hell you read that
  11. So I read the article again, I think the reference to the White Sox is if he is not cleared by June 15th, i.e. if he is apart of the 2017 international signing period that features the likes of the Cubs, Dodgers, Giants, royals, Astros, Athletics, Braves, Cardinals, Nationals, Padres and Red Sox not being able to sign anyone for more than 300k. If it's before then, then it tilts toward the Astros, athletics, braves, cards, nats, pads, etc etc who could just continue exceeding the pool. edit: read it again including the paragraph before:
  12. If all the sox wanted was a top 30 position player, top 70 pitching prospect and two bullpen arms the sox could get that deal.
  13. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) aren't you guys glad the Sale trade didn't stretch this long? It stretched from July 1st onward tbh.
  14. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 02:10 PM) This doesn't really detract from your point but the best outfield in baseball is clearly the Angels' outfield. Well, stupid mike trout dragging Cameron Maybin's ass upward
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 02:12 PM) Position players prospects would be great. I'd love it personally. Well, if we traded for position players, we'd still be totally screwed because their window would close and what are we going to do to re-sign them? Ugh, we should trade collins now for a younger player just to keep this window open as long as possible.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 02:04 PM) The one who has to trade its best player for financial reasons to make a trade for Q? And has a top ten CF prospect ready to step in its place?
  17. New CBA shows severe restriction on consistently being above the luxury tax. Significant restrictions on overspending on INTL. Those same teams are loading up prospects because they can't afford to spend their way through victories anymore. Remember when EE to boston was a done deal? Yeah they are going to the season replacing David Ortiz with Mitch Moreland. There's no reason to throw up our hands and say woe is us. Edit: oh yeah, and EE went and signed with CLEVELAND
  18. The pirates window is closing? We talking about the team we are crying about to include their two top hitting prospects in addition to their 2 top 50 pitching prospects and have the best outfield in baseball?
  19. http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...l7qhZ49hsvhS.97 So we had 3.443 million, and know we spent 2 million So if the latter 3 were 100k or less, then we could have 1.1 million to spend.
  20. Funny thing about cubs is they are the only team to ever get good again on young players and also only team model to ever have success.
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 12:03 PM) I may be in the minority here, but I'll happily take a pitcher like Glasnow if I'm also getting two high caliber offensive prospects like Bell & Newman. I don't buy this "you can never have too much pitching" mindset, but I think there's room for one more prospect with TOR potential. The key is you have to get some bats back, even if you don't get an untouchable like Meadows included in the deal. People are talking about Meadows/bell not being included so Newman being top offensive piece.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 11:58 AM) So you'd be overturning your rotation once a year then? Come on man, if Kopech is destroying AAA next year and throwing 100 you're going to be happy with him being put in the bullpen? Hell I could write my post complaining about it already. Kopech was in A ball last year and has a lot of command refinement. Likely 2017 breakdown with suggested glasnow/keller/newman/4th trade AAA Giolito Glasnow Fullmer Lopez Danish AA Adams Kopech Keller Stevens A Dunning
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 11:35 AM) I really don't think this matters to me - if he's the 3rd piece, he could be a good player but this still doesn't work out. There can't be more than 1 starting pitcher out of the top 2 guys and I'm skeptical we have room for that. I get there's a clog, but Keller is a high A ball player in 2017. And I'm not sure I'd want our scouts to specifically take players they like less but would fit better in a trade like this. And the third piece is, again, a top 40 prospect, top 20 position player prospect. Get Hayes as well and that's a top 3b prospect. It's hard to find trades where more is sent.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 11:30 AM) I agree that lack of pitching has been a major problem in this organization, but I can't help but feel we've loaded up on pitching already, to the point that if we're not getting position players back as the key ingredients there's no reason to make this deal. Glasnow + Keller + 2 other guys might be fair return on total talent, but we simply can't start this many pitchers. I would obviously prefer packages with Meadows/bell, but have to reiterate that Newman is not just some guy.
  25. So if I were to get a two-day pass does that get entry into the sessions with Hahn, etc? I can't remember if certain ones are allowed only for STH
