  1. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 04:10 PM) I'll repeat my polite request from a couple of weeks ago: if we're dealing Quintana to the Astros can we please include C Garrett Stubbs in the return? Rated highly defensively (former Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year), hit .325/.401/.517 at AA last year and is reasonably far enough down their prospects lists that you wouldn't think he'd be a deal-breaker. I kinda cooled on him after a poster said in person he's the size of a jack in the box taco.
  2. I think this goes back to the fact that the astros are not an interesting trade partner to me.
  3. Okay lets create a phone tree to map out who we need to wake up. Someone start a google doc?
  4. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) Absolutely dude and and I am one of those offenders of crazy trade proposals. But I think Sox fans here are overall more practical than what I've read from Yanks, Boston and Astros fans this winter. The Pirates fanbase has been extremely practical imho, and I've gained alot of respect for those fans because it shows they not only know their own team well but have a very practical understanding of Q's value. Definitely some knowledgeable baseball fans. I think we are more practical now, in July, however, we were literally just writing the top ten prospects for every team and then questioning whether getting a 10 for 1 deal was even enough.
  5. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) Holy hell Brantly: 2 starts, 1.23 ERA, 2 BB, 12 SO, .208/.246/.264/.510, 0 HR Flowers: 17 starts, 2.73 ERA, 49 BB, 98 SO, .234/.331/.341/.672, 7 HR Soto: 7 starts, 9.12 ERA, 20 BB, 29 SO, .330/.444/.550/.994, 4 HR I saw him pitch one of the worst games of my life, the adam laroche pitched yankees game where the first three innings were maybe 6 hours long.
  6. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 02:52 PM) Charlie Tilson would have been my choice, but since he's not there for some reason, I'll take Engel. So true, let's make a big deal about this. Why wouldn't our starting cf'er be there?
  7. I was thinking how I was pretty pumped that Eddy Alvarez could have a legit shot to see some ML action with us being a rebuilding team and him now being on AAA. What obscure/marginal prospect are you excited to see potentially get a shot on the rebuilding white sox? Obviously the top ten won't be on here, but list someone I don't have here and why
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 02:09 PM) Tilson. D'oh, sorry. I wonder if we carry 5 outfielders
  9. so do we have a CFer (not that coats was)?
  10. es.pn/2jjo1Eg 8m-12m: Peter gammons on Pirates/Q. Speculate astros coming back for Q with similar Archer deal. Discuss Pirates getting Q then trading Cole in year or two to recoup. 19m: Dave Dombrowski on Sale Some interesting notes: - Wash reports coming out, DD is nervous - Use thornberg trade to confirm deal is still possible (one player was discussed with chisox prior) - was not confirmed until next da but that night, Hahn brings up Basabe/Diaz and DD confirms they are open to that Kinda continues to be confusing. I was sure we used Wash rumors to make Bosox nervous into including devers but seems pretty clear boston was not budging on him + moncada 35 mm hahn - haven't listened to yet. I figure people are bored and could be interested.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 09:44 AM) Lol, all catchers throw righty.... Oh right, handedness not best for catchers, however the google search "narvaez switch hitting" led me to some site called futuresox: http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/omar-narvaez/ which says he abandoned switch hitting in 2014.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 09:34 AM) Yep. Super small sample, but Narvaez actually hit much better against LHP last year. Wasn't he switch hitter, but decided to drop batting from the right side in the majors? He throws righty, so I'd guess yes. I knew nothing about Narvaez before he was brought up though.
  13. Here's a terrible idea: a minor league circuit that is only classic astroturf stadiums.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 09:29 AM) So if hypothetically he's platooned with Narvaez, we actually have one left handed hitting catcher and one right handed hitting catcher on the roster this time, not two righties, right? Yes, and Soto has not played above 90 games in some time so definitely not going to expect 120+ games out of him.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 09:27 AM) for what purpose? Lived in/near 2 of those cities the past year. We need you to bug the GMs offices for th Pirates and Astros.
  16. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2016-hitter...-left-fielders/ I read this and thought maybe melky's july deadline market may be bigger than I thought (i.e >0). The AL left fielders are just that bad, though this obviously is just one component and we'd probably all take Brett Gardner over Melky.
  17. I'm fine with this. One thing on our catchers pre-this signing, zips projections were so bad that Roberto Pena was our highest projected catcher even with his .600 OPS in minors offense. If we don't care about the black hole on offense he provides he would be my favorite for first one up (above Kevan Smith).
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 04:40 PM) It's funny. Q is better than Archer, left handed, younger, and has been a workhorse in the bigs for longer. He has one less year of control. And the Astros offered a larger package than the one that the Sox asked for for Archer. Velocity must mean everything. Ya never know, they may just value Musgrove, an actual MLB pitcher, just that much more than Paulino.
  19. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 04:14 PM) No one found Chris Hemsworth's stupidity kind of funny in Ghostbusters? I thought it was actually, a little bit. It was fine, it just wasn't movie redeeming.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 04:01 PM) Where was this reported? From a comment I also saw on Crawfish Boxes, it reports Peter Gammons said it on MLB network: 'Stros of Crush City @Astros_Arsenal Gammons just said on MLBN Luhnow went to Rays and said Tucker/Martes/Paulino + 2 more prospects for Archer. Rays said no. Very surprising 10:32 AM - 4 Jan 2017
  21. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 03:45 PM) I think it's relevant in this thread, but the Rays turned down a Martes, Tucker, Paulino ++ for Archer. That is crazy. It has been great news for sox that the only truly comparable asset was on the Rays, who are not going to undercut the sox to take the slightly under deal. Rays are benefiting from sox benchmarks being high, sox are benefitting from Rays asks ALWAYS being higher than sox.
