So Summer League report: Felicio and Portis are far and away best players on court, good to see of second year players, but like, the bare minimum of what you should see. Really would be nice if Portis can handle 5 in this league. Dinwiddie/Grant...not dominating.

Stories of people running to the truck to jump on, a motorcyclist chasing after it trying to get into the cabin. Lots of people worth fighting for in this world.

I personally look for people for president that don't support authoritarian racist candidates, but, I don't know. I guess he is 35. That's a big accomplishment.

QUOTE (OilCan @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 09:58 PM) Three hits in his last 45 is NOT encouraging at all. After that hot streak he experienced in June, I was starting to think he's coming around AA pitching. Maybe a change of scenery will do him some good. Yeah, I think maybe a demotion to WS may be warranted. For a while it was "maybe its injuries" but it's always injuries with him. So bummed, last spring training I thought he may have finally turned a corner.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 11:26 PM) The Night Of was a very solid premiere, will definitely continue to watch. Liked the pacing. I could see how the main character may start to get on my nerves, though. Hope that doesn't happen. Re: Vinyl. I liked it, but overall I was disappointed because it could have been so much better. Note for future HBO shows: You can demonstrate a pervasive drug culture without the main charcter snorting coke in literally every scene. Re: Silicon Valley. This season wasn't as good as the first two. The first season was good, but that season's finale was one of the funniest episodes of television I've seen. Season 2 was very good. This season was a bit flat. Re: Vinyl. I think it got caught up in itself. I think Jagger and Scorcese got confused about the medium. Having Mic Jagger tell you about a story of him and lou reed tying one on driving around new york with chelsea models everywhere would be entertianing to hear. But it's really not that entertaining to watch. They also shouldn't have actually shown the music of the nasty bits and other fake characters. Like, yeah the music you are creating is not going to have the impact of the culture shaking music of the times. It would have been better if they had alluded to but didn't focus on all of the actual acts of the time. It just seemed like some dude name dropping for hours.

QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 02:58 PM) Did I step in a portal to an alternate Earth? Just for clarification, on the Earth I come from, in the 2016 Democratic Primary, Bernie Sanders got tons of favorable media coverage relative to Clinton (when they could find time to stop talking about Trump), it was frequently noted he generated enthusiasm in his supporters and drew large crowds, and every time he gained ground in polls or won a state he received several days' worth of coverage for it. When the media did mention Clinton, they usually accurately reported that she had more delegates and was more likely to win, which is what happened. I'm not sure how that happened on this Earth, though. Did Hillary Clinton squeak out a come-from-behind win or something? idk I believe Portal to an Alternate Earth is on Kansas license plates, thou

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 02:45 PM) As long as he's better than Coats/Avi then I'll be happy. That isn't too hard to do Pretty much all of the "He can't be worse than X" decisions we've made have been wrong, they can all be that bad.

Realizing I'm not sure what our 21-25 roster is right now. Morneau up, Coats down (when was coats up?), Kahnle up?, Rodon to DL, Empty spot?

Multiple Dallas police officers shot at anti-police protest

QUOTE (BurlyMan56 @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) I don't post offen but have been a Soxtalk daily reader since 2003. I signed up on this site when I was 15. I am now 28. Soxtalk has always been my place for Sox news. I am a Southsider and moved to Dallas a few years ago but catch the Sox everytime they are here in Arlington. I am active Dallas PD. I have been on for 4.5 years and currently work in the division where 6 of the officers were killed/injured. I lost 3 of my good friends that I worked alongside day by day, rode bikes with, made significant arrests with, helped people, ate dinner with and had personal relatioships with. The officers lost were great guys. The three killed were in my assigned squad. I was scheduled to be at work Last Thursday and would have been right next to them. However, I took the day off because I took my wife's friends back to the airport that night and soon thereafter my phone began to be flooded with calls and texts. We have received an overwhelming amount of support from the DFW community and across the nation. I ask support/prayers/thoughts from my Soxtalk community as I bury two more of my friends the next two days. Thank you for sharing your story. I will keep you and your friends/their families in my thoughts. -

Kudos to RBG for rescinding commentary. That she apologized goes someway to restoring norms. I'm sure all of the fed justice seats open will be filled now too

The tall and short of White Sox draft strategy
bmags replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It did seem like the first 60 pitchers taken were all like 6'7 this year. Has to be disappointing if you are 6'7 and very unathletic. -
QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 09:48 AM) LOL I am not sure if you are being sarcastic with the Zipser love or if you actually are high on him like Gar. No I'm really intrigued. He's a second round pick, he's probably not that good as he's 22 and was never a heavy minutes guy, but he has an interesting skillset. He was rated as a late first round talent that we got mid second. He may have been better off in europe for a year. Read this: http://www.blogabull.com/2016/6/24/1202514...-nba-draft-2016

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 09:22 AM) So your argument is ESPN is deliberately being obtuse by NOT using that version of WAR? When they're making inroads on e-sports/League of Legends, MMA, X-Games, lots of areas of sporting endeavor that didn't even exist 20 years ago? Why would that be in their best interest, to use a fundamentally-flawed statistic if a CLEARLY SUPERIOR one is available? It's seems like you are legitimately curious here so I'll try. Have you noticed how ESPN has a propensity to credit their reporters for news and other non-ESPN ones? Have you noticed how they hype up Hollingers PER over all other stats? Institutionally I would say they feel that giving credit to other sports sources acknowledges they failed. So of course they aren't going to use Baseball-ref WAR or fangraphs WAR, they'll make their own version. They didn't set out to, I'm sure, but when your braintrust is harold reynolds then it happens.

Would really like Adolfo to get a nice second half going.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 08:22 AM) If it's that simple, why does ESPN, who is supposed to be the foremost authority on sports news and information...choose not to use it? Why would they deliberately want to be wrong if it's in their best interest to use the best statistics? It wouldn't cost them more money to use a different version of WAR, would it? With the knowledgeable baseball guys over there like Law, Callis, Stark, Schoenfield...what's the reason? Has anyone ever asked that question? And because simply having a higher WAR in a limited number of at-bats doesn't automatically mean it could be extrapolated out over a full season for a bench player. If that was the case, the Reds would take Saladino for Bruce, the Dodgers Saladino for Puig? And yet we know both of those trades are pretty much unrealistic...right? Or even for Beltran to rent him for 2-3 months, or Josh Reddick. There are MANY players who wouldn't stand up over the test of full-time play, but their abilities can be maximized as part-time or bench players. Regardless of what version of WAR you use, it's just ONE snapshot...one of hundreds of statistics you could look at, when assessing a position player. One thing that's clear statistically is that Puig's defense has improved pretty dramatically compared to years past. But hey...if the White Sox want to go down with the Avi Garcia Ship, more power to them. I'd hate to see how he grades out about right now. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

I didn't see a single game that rutherford/lewis played, I just liked the idea of either. But collins is nice too. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 06:33 PM) I am sure they appreciate it, but why do you think the mods know more than everyone else? I bet even a couple of them don't even have a high school varsity letter. I think I got some lamp one.
