  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 04:37 PM) I don't expect Burdi, Hansen, or Anderson to be in AZL for long. Also, it's amazing at how quickly they've built up some catching depth. Collins will be here shortly, Zavala has some promise, and Perez, Alfaro, and Hickman are all in the system as well. This team along with Great Falls should be fun follows. While not a starter, it feels like based on how he's been in big league camp they like Austin's defense enough that he'll be a AAA catcher that will see some time.
  2. Was thinking we had a prospect named Adams Car, but I get it. I wish he'd start K'ing people again.
  3. Yes, basically a year after saying "At least we didn't do what the Padres did" we ended up basically doing what the Padres did.
  4. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 03:59 PM) Interesting that Blake Hickman is listed as a C. That is weird. I kind of wonder if they just guessed after seeing Hickman, and put both?
  5. I kinda feel like Anderson will be good against a knuckler since he has such a quick bat it can adjust late.
  6. Wow, yeah. I have to imagine Paddy smiled when he saw that Roster.
  7. It put pen to paper the general feeling that the sox have made a ton of moves to basically be in a worse place than they would be if they made no moves at all (in regard to depth/salary/production)
  8. hmmm It's a podcast, just FYI. For those that have ears/time

QUOTE (FT35 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 11:53 AM) It's still a mystery. I'd like to point blame too but Shields had 1 bad start in SD and all of a sudden all of the positive that he had done in his career was forgotten and everyone is lauding the scouts who passed. Like they knew he would not be able to get ANYONE out. Are the good scouts the ones who say "no way" to an otherwise solid pitcher after 1 bad start? Or are our guys doing the right thing by saying..let's buy low on this guy because of his multi-year track record of success--he'll turn it around? The only way I'm coming down on our Shields scouts is if they overlooked something else MAJOR going on in his life that is causing this or an injury. What on earth did they miss?? Is it a Chuck Knoblauch case where an all-star player, for some unknown reason, forgets how to throw the ball to 1st base? I agree--our system is broken, but anyway you look at it, you can find decent logic behind the decisions that are made!! I just can't figure it out and it's driving me nuts!! http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/james-shiel...up-for-a-while/
  10. She was probably just teaching old Jon a lesson. "Jon, you better listen to me this time, or you'll have to climb the corpse wall again"
  11. Yeah the songs about aliens man, you didn't know that? George Washington was in a cult, and that cult was into aliens.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 12:50 PM) Robertson, Melky, Navarro, Shields, and maybe Frazier if he picks it up in July. The rest would be on the market after the season when there would be more bidders available. All this would do is clear salary. It would not come close to actually replenishing our farm.
  13. Will take Dirk over Olajuwon all day every day. Especially since 25 years ago cuts a lot of Hakeems career out.

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 12:07 PM) Considering we do most things half-way, I would expect the former if anything! I shouldn't have included Quintana in the half-assed one, but I think even if we "rebuild" trading both of Sale and Quintana may work against each other in value returned.

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 12:00 PM) This has probably been addressed in the thread already, but IF we chose to be deadline sellers who would make sense to trade? Robertson? Anyone else? If you want to do it half assed again, Robertson/Jones/Quintana/Melky If you want to really rebuild Sale/Abreu/Melky/Robertson. Either way probably fine to keep one of Sale/Quintana. Abreu would make sense due to age/cost. We are selling low though.

The player we would hope to get is compared to Brett Gardner and that's exciting?
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 11:16 AM) lol@gift titles. please. he quite literally carried those Heat teams. Wade was often hobbling and inconsistent and don't even get me started on Bosh. Wade was very good in 2011 (didn't win) and 2012 (did). Wade was best player on court in 2011, Lebron was better in 2012. But Wade put up a 23/6/5 line with 1.5 steals per game and 1 block per game. His latter 2 years his knees were bummed but his first two he was still great.
  18. I enjoy hating on Lebron playing basketball. Some people hate on Tom Brady. Others hate Jose Bautista. Sports are more fun that way.
  19. She may have not known they were coming and would get there in time. It's unknown yet whether everyone in that world yet knows that time and distance no longer exist in this season.
  20. Golden State was the epitome of team basketball. Hero Ball is such a stupid description of modern NBA. This isn't 2002 anymore. You don't like basketball, move along. What is the purpose of fans that pipe in to a major sports championships just to say the sport is stupid?

If the Sox finish under 75 wins and Shields continues to be the worst pitcher in baseball, I would be shocked if no FO movement happens.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) They let Danks go way before that, and JR was part of the acquire Shields decision. He wasn't talked into it. They aren't getting fired, and even if Hahn was, KW wouldn't. Would you want him trading for prospects? "Our owner had a little concern with that outing, too. It wasn't a fun conversation to have," a smiling Hahn said. "He pointed out the line. He wanted to make sure we were aware of it, and I assured him we were aware of it. "Ultimately, he understood the track record of this player and how he fits in going forward. I've harped on this, but we've looked for an extended period of time. But certainly this last offseason, trying to add guys who fit into that clubhouse, that have a certain type of character, a certain type of makeup that helps not only focus on the matter at hand and competes, but also makes the guys around them better. James is another example of that type of makeup. Jerry [Reinsdorf] appreciated the entirety of the player beyond just that one game." Oh, sorry. Didn't realize Hahn said his Boss was fine with wasting money a terrible acquisition. Case closed.
  23. I'm guessing Burdi is slightly under slot, and zach remillard is 10k to fit in curbelo.
  24. bmags replied to Dunt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That's ridiculous to say they won't be fired. If this freefall continues, and Shields goes on like this, Hahn's seat will be very hot after asking to DFA Danks in order to acquire possibly the worst starter that has ever played baseball, with a contract we have to hope gets laroched. Add to that Year 4 of a rebuild going nowhere. Everything has its limits. Wasting JR's money is a quick way to test them.
  25. bmags replied to Dunt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 09:36 AM) Is Hahn an idiot or not? It seems every bad idea was KW's and any good one was Hahn's. Their philosophies are most likely a lot more similar than anyone who thinks every bad idea is KW's wants to believe. But they are the guys who are going to be making the decisions. So if you think either is incapable, having them trade players like Sale and Q and Abreu is insane. If your argument is that Hahn/KW should not be the ones doing the rebuild, I agree. They should both be fired for their Major League roster plan this year. But trading away some of our more valuable assets before they are not valuable anymore when we aren't going to win anyway is not a bad strategy just because the Royals were bad for a long time.
