Some Stuff On Lineup Optimaztion
QUOTE (shysocks @ Mar 14, 2016 -> 10:18 AM) Bumping this because I've always found it interesting. One question arises from the articles. 3rd: The #3 hitter comes up to the plate with fewer runners on base on average than the #4 and #5 hitters. So why do managers put the run producers in the 3 hole when teams can benefit having them in the #4 and #5 hitters. The third spot isn’t really that important. 5th: The book says the number five hitter gets more plate appearances with men on, and can provide more value with extra base hits. After the #1, #2, and #4 slots are written in, the manager should put the next best hitter in the five-hole, not the three-hole. Wouldn't it be true that the 5 hitter comes up with men on base more often because of the tradition of putting the a "role" hitter at 2 and your best hitter at 3? If the manager adhered to the newer recommendations, increasing the importance of the 2-spot, then putting the next best hitter at 5, then 3, then doesn't that decrease the importance of the 5-spot and and increase the importance of the 3-spot by design? Was just thinking this. By making their recommended changes, you are changing their calculations of importance. The 4 and 5 spots are better because the 3 spot is usually best hitter.

Chait makes the better argument against not "shutting down" campaign rally's here: http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/...-democracy.html I don't think the protestors intended to shut it down as much as voice their opposition, but it is certain that around the country, for activists that was not seen as a negative outcome of the protest. Important line here: This is important in the article. I now truly believe Trump is dangerous in a way unprecedented in modern politics. If that is the case, political etiquette seems small compared to the bigger issue. But the point with the article is that no matter what he's killed a part of American democracy's stability for the last 100 or so years. Considering some of the 19th century shenanigans, not going to include that for optimal political climate.

I know your joking, but races like states attorney are always going to be hard to project future performance on. But I would like to see Cook County vote out Alvarez, and I like Foxx's stated agenda.

Nightengale on new Sox Swagger
I can see that, regarding the quote by Adam. There was a lot of them apologizing for the season almost right away. That's a weird response to give in sports mid season. I think they'll have more confidence now that even with a slump, they will hit.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Mar 12, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) Thibs had success because he is an amazing defensive tactician. So good, in fact, that we miss the obvious problems in his coaching: He doesn't deal with locker room issues well at all and his offense is terrible. He belongs in the assistant coaching role as that's what he actually good at. Hoiberg isn't any better as far as any of us can tell, but Thibodeau was a severely flawed coach. With the same group of players, the locker room was better and the offense was better. He somehow took a bad offense and made it top ten. Unlike hoiberg, who cannot coach to his players, Thibs created a structured offense for a group that clearly has no improvisational ability.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 13, 2016 -> 11:25 AM) I believe the students I spoke with on Madison St Friday night were part of this group. They said it was a student organized protest. http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/201...8#ixzz42mjimTsv Moveon claiming credit for protests is a pr move. They don't have much influence since Obama presidency. Student groups, BLM were more important for the organization of the protests.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 13, 2016 -> 11:52 AM) I'm pretty genuinely confused by what you mean here. Rahm is criticized from the left in ways that align pretty well with Sanders campaign. His joke is that Sanders America would be bankrupt ala Chicago. I'm on only a phone today but Jenks, I'm talking about how Nixon used EOP to force fib surveillance on enemies, IRS auditing on enemies and more. Kind of like how today Trump is making the standard that his violent white supremacist supporters will not face consequences for violent actions.

I'm so pumped for Jackson. One of those players you just like their name and look as baseball players for me. I feel the same about Tim Anderson. Just remind me of baseball players that I grew up with.
