Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) guess what.......... everyone has an opinion, and many times it can be different from anyone and everyone else. just b/c opinions are different esp from the mods / admin should that constitute the mods / admin on jumping on them...... poster should not feel threaten if one posters opinions happens to be different!!!!! now if this difference brings out the lack of age of that person, why is it the other person fault. difference of opinion is what make the soxtalk board great. So if a mod has a different opinion than you, you feel threatened? That's your fault. Unless you are banned for no reason, this is the "difference of opinion that makes soxtalk so great"

2015-2016 NBA Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) In the long term they may regret that trade but Wiggins would not make them a better team right now. He is a bad 3 pt shooter and despite his athleticism he isn't a great defender yet. I think being on a bad defensive team makes it worse. I have no doubt if he had been next to James and on the Cavs he'd be very good defensively already.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
Listen, it was not my (nor a lot of us criticizing since the upton/cespedes market news) strategy to plug all of our numerous holes with trades and free agency to build a playoff team around Sale/Q/Abreu/Eaton. But when that is your plan, I have a hard time swallowing that you refuse to engage in it because the market is higher than you would like. Then you should have done a different plan for your payroll. We did improve, I think we will be better. But we may be worse with 1 injury (sale) and poor performance by Danks/EJ. If everything goes right, perhaps we get 88 wins, but more likely we are looking at a .500 team. Did Cespedes/Gordon/Upton alone change that? Maybe not, but I think it would move us to a safe 84 win projection, which at mid season would allow us to gauge how close we are and use a trade to push us. Are we honestly closer to the playoffs than if we traded Q for Shelby Miller's package?

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 10:41 PM) Cabrera, Martinez, Martinez and Upton is nice. That's formidable. Now time for Hahn to answer that. We still have worst lineup in division. We have 2nd best rotation of no injuries. Who knows on bullpen. And probably 3rd best defense. Cespedes flips two of those a lot closer, and we have no idea how much our pitching staff may improve ahead of good defense.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
We continue to pay market price for Major Leaguers. Paying cost controlled prices could let us buy our all stars, but wait! All stars are so expensive. Let's just continue to wait, but not rebuild, but not pay to finish the job either.

Yes , at this pace, we might get to 81 wins before Sales arm falls off.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 10:30 PM) It is amazing how worthwhile a prospect Micah has become since he was gone He had trade value, obviously. Using him on Todd Frazier means you can't use him for someone else. Also find it hilarious we can be so patient in not breaking bank on a needed improvement, but can't possibly wait and see if some of our infield prospects are worthwhile.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
Succinctly, why I'm not happy: - In a tough division, could have taken advantage of outrageous trade value for our pitching to load up and hope to compete in 2 years. - instead went forward and did get better, but everyone got better. Cespedes/Gordon/Upton offered chance to add 2 all stars in one offseason and legitimately have a lot of elite talent. Instead, our upgrade basically moved us in parallel with other teams in division, did not catch us up. So really, are we any closer to a playoff today than if we had cashed in on our talent? I don't think so. Yeah, FA prices suck, but that's what you pay when you failed your scouting on Avi/Davidson

Us thinking Rick Hahn is playing poker here is like watching a dead possum thinking they'll wake up any second.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 01:16 AM) They traded away 1 minor leaguer worth anything.. they are much better now than they were last year and it's not like Frazier and Lawrie are locks to leave once they can hit the FA market. We have gotten guys like Eaton, Sale & Q on deals so the 5 very forgettable minor leaguers they have traded off aren't going to haunt us IMO. Plus, there are a lot of free agents on the board and quite a bit of time before the season starts and guess what: if we tank and Frazier has 25 bombs by the all star break and Lawrie is hitting well and fielding 2b decently, we are going to be getting a helluva lot more back for those guys than we spent. Just like with Samardjiza!

Ifit was so important to win now with this core you finish the the win now.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
Rationalize all you want. The sox accelerated their rebuild, traded away 5 minor leaguers, and still *maybe* will be .500. They had two ways to go this offseason, they chose neither. The lack of strategy in this front office is depressingly average.

Quick poll: If you had the chance, would you rather have traded Q for Shelby millers same package and done nothing else, or have our current offseason with zero big 3 OF additions

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 11:03 PM) With what resources? They'd already be way over the budget for 2016 with nothing left in the farm outside the big 3. Why would they be way over? They are clearing $30 mil

2016 Democratic Thread
The establishment on left would have no issue with Sanders. That they are not opening a bunch of lanes for a Sanders now is mostly due to his years of self identified independence, and honestly a legit feeling that they owe this one to the clintons after 08. I'm obviously not the biggest sanders voter, but it's because his dumb hang up marketing of himself as a dem socialist obscures that he isn't that left, not that he actually is a socialist. Not sure what it is establishment would even be scared of with lack of congress /state power he'd inherit. Hated the DLC in the end, but they are needed to return some of the losses. Fire DWS.

Chris Davis back to Baltimore
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 08:13 AM) They offered 7/154 months ago. The negotiations probably cost him money if he invested it from the original contract. He went back to the Orioles and said give me 1 million more just so I can say that after months of negotiations I got him a better deal. You don't get a lump sum and it's unlikely he makes 7 million in investments in four months when the global economy is spinning from oil. Boras did a tremendous job here. Absent the Orioles, what was Davis market? I wouldn't have guessed more than 20 mill aav
